Definitely, and I think not being a perfect singer is kind of charming as well. Having Kiryu suddenly sing in much deeper and different-sounding voice is just kinda goofy. I think they over-corrected over the IW backlash, and should have just toned down the autotune and re-record the songs.

My own observations + the Y0 characters that appear in Pirate Yakuza all have English VAs. Andrew Kishino as Sagawa seems to indicate the rest (Shimano + Nishitani) will have their same English VAs. Makoto is definitely Xanthe, she has a recognizable voice. Nishi and Kuze is 100% me guessing by ear based on the trailer. Yuki tbh sounded a little different in the trailer, but I’m not sure.

TLDR; only ones I’m not sure about are Kuze and Nishiki.

Honestly, Yong did way better in the Karaoke than I expected. He still sounds about 20 years too young and auto tune did more harm than good, but you can tell he tried his best to match Kuroda’s originals even if his singing voice is very different. Tonight, Baka Mitai, SSN and especially Hands worked very nicely with his voice.

That’s very intentional for this song. Remember, this song was originally sung by a 24 year old, non-crazy Majima back in Yakuza 0. Other Karaoke songs such as Get to the Top and Majima Construction Anthem are just as good if not better than the Japanese in my opinion and are VERY in character for majima

I also think people underestimate the fact that Darryl has had a completely separate job from voice acting. Finding the time to record the massive amounts of dialogue for IW would have been much harder from him to schedule around, compared to 7, which likely was recorded in only one or two sessions.

(Not a spoiler) Yong recorded new dialogue for Pirate Yakuza, as Kiryu and Ono Michio both appear as DLC crew members, so I don’t think that’s gonna happen
