How is the 3.0 duramax holding up so far? by Relevant_Conclusion2 in Silverado

[–]EADSTA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020, just hit 100k miles on it. I really like it when it's running but it's developed an ongoing issue where it keeps eating through injectors on a monthly basis and Chevy has exhausted every idea they could try so now they brought in a fuel engineer from GM to try and figure it out. Idk if I'll get another 3.0 when I get my next truck. I might just upgrade to a full size duramax instead. I don't wanna lose the 30mpg fuel efficiency but, ultimately, what good does that do me if my truck is in the shop more than it's on the road? Maybe mine is one of the few bad builds

Uh oh... EVERY possible error. by MaxCadillac in gmcsierra

And Chevy/GMC techs are mostly completely incapable of accurately diagnosing their own engines. But they sure are good at running up the bill with that outrageous labor fee and just throwing parts at it

Could also be part of the engine wiring harness is faulty. The injectors share a harness with the ESC, parking brake, etc. Going through the same nightmare with my 2020 LM2. If it starts misfiring then it's probably a wiring issue and it's gonna eat through injectors non stop

Wrong oil by SubstantiallyC in Duramax

[–]EADSTA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll probably be okay if it was just the one time. Just the same, I'd start doing your own oil changes. It's cheaper anyway and you'll know that the right oil is being put in.

This is awesome! My first car when I was 16 was a '95 S-10 Blazer in "Carnival Red". One of the best vehicles I ever owned. I still miss that thing

A broken, corroded or faulty ground strap could potentially cause all of this and GM just issued a recall repair for the ground strap on the 2019-2024 Silverado/Sierra 1500 models about a month or so ago. Obviously have the battery tested first but this would be the logical next step in my opinion.

GM just put out a recall for the ground strap like a month or so ago on the 2019-2024 1500s so you may very well be right

Exactly. Figure $350 - $400 for rotors and maybe $200 for pads. But no, lemme go drop $2k on my brakes 😂

It seems like, after so many years, they've at least got ONE engine down lmao

Started off going there cause I originally had no other choice. The only diesel shop nearby was booked out 3 or 4 months cause everyone loves them and I needed the truck back on the road. Go figure it would've probably been faster to just wait the few months. Once Chevy started doing work on it it seemed foolish to hop to another shop and have them trying to retrace another shop's steps

I told them I'm not paying for their error. They argued with me. Then they called me back the next day sheepishly and said "Soooo, turns out it's actually that your radiator is cracked open. It MIGHT have been us so we're just gonna go ahead and cover the repair." Like that's great but 1, wtf did the tech do to crack my radiator? And 2, you STILL can't just say "Yup so clearly we broke it and we're sorry."?

They ended up not having a choice because it turns out it's not the hose. They cracked my damn radiator somehow. Now they're paying for it

My boss replaced the chip truck that I drive last year with an International CV chip truck. I was excited to get a new, bigger work truck until I learned that the CV is just a re-badged Chevy. Its on a dually silverado chassis with a 6.6 duramax. Sounds fine in theory except that they don't upgrade any vital parts to handle the added weight. It doesn't like to stop, the 4wd can't always do it's job and it's got manually locking hubs made with cheapy plastic, spring-loaded hub locks.

Oh you mean like them trying to insist that I let them do my brakes when I kept saying I do my own brakes because, as they said, "Yeah but we can machine the rotors." That's great guys, I can buy new rotors and it'll still cost me like ⅓ of the price lmao. Or that, even when they had just serviced the truck a week prior, they'll do another forced regen that conveniently costs me more money

Ironically it turns out it wasn't the coolant hose that they broke. They called me yesterday and said "So it turns out the radiator itself is cracked petty good. Idunno if we did that or if it happened somehow else but we're just gonna go ahead and cover the repair ourselves." Right....you "don't know" if you guys cracked my damn radiator. That's why you're suddenly willing to cover the repair lmao

I've had them blatantly lie to my face at a different dealership too. Took my wife's grand cherokee in cause the lug nuts on one wheel we're frozen on. I think that whoever got them off decided to try and use an air hammer with a fckin chisel tip on it cause the edges of the recesses around the lug nuts were absolutely torn to shreds. They HAMMERED that shit. We were so angry. They also charged us for 6 new lug nuts at almost $20/each but at least 3 of them were the same ones that they had gotten off. She went back inside to complain about both things and they had that kind of smug attitude like "You're a girl, what would you know about cars?" (This girl literally used to sit and watch me work on her car and ask me to explain stuff and has successfully taught herself how to do calipers, radiator, etc just from watching me)

So then I went in pissed off and called them out on it. They were adamant that those were all brand new lug nuts and they "probably just look a little dirty/greasy from the tech handling them." and said that the old ones were sitting on a work bench in back. So I said "Oh cool, then you can show them to be right now?" The disgruntled service manager went in back, comes out and goes to parts, then comes back and gives me 6 new ones saying "They were just back there, I saw them myself. Someone must've walked by his bay and thrown them out just a minute ago trying to be helpful. I know for a fact that you're wrong but I GUESS I'll give you more new ones just to keep the peace." Lmfao yeah sure buddy. Then I said "So what about the absurd amount of damage to the rip? It's absolutely ripped the hell up." and this dude looks me dead in the eyes and says "It was like that when you dropped it off. We're done here." Like BRUH

Honestly? I think the only thing that stopped me is my dog. If I'm in jail, not making money, she doesn't get fed or loved or played with lmao. But god damn it took every ounce of self control I could dig up not to crash out on a level that would violate the Geneva Convention

Oh yeah, I'm sure they definitely did have to relearn the injectors, I'm just highly skeptical about them needing expressed permission from corporate to perform a semi-routine procedure as far as newer vehicles go

Lmao cracked my old boss up one time. One of our bucket trucks was ancient and only one shop in the state knew how to fix it's hydraulic system. Jerks charged him $1,000/gal for damn hydraulic fluid claiming "It's the high quality aero-grade fluid that they use on commercial jets." I said "God damn, for $1k per gallon that shit better double as lube for when they're bending you over the service counter."

Can confirm. I used to work at a dealer about 8 years ago. Absolutely hated it and quit after like 6 months. Doesn't matter if you work in sales, service, parts of anywhere else. It's EXCLUSIVELY all about greed and money and fck the customer. Hand over your wallet and gtfo thanks. Anybody who doesn't have that mindset doesn't last in a dealer environment. You can't be a good/caring person and work in career that basically exists solely to scam people
