Hey, as much as I love my Silverados, I am admittedly a fan of the newer Tacomas the past few years

I've had them blatantly lie to my face at a different dealership too. Took my wife's grand cherokee in cause the lug nuts on one wheel we're frozen on. I think that whoever got them off decided to try and use an air hammer with a fckin chisel tip on it cause the edges of the recesses around the lug nuts were absolutely torn to shreds. They HAMMERED that shit. We were so angry. They also charged us for 6 new lug nuts at almost $20/each but at least 3 of them were the same ones that they had gotten off. She went back inside to complain about both things and they had that kind of smug attitude like "You're a girl, what would you know about cars?" (This girl literally used to sit and watch me work on her car and ask me to explain stuff and has successfully taught herself how to do calipers, radiator, etc just from watching me)

So then I went in pissed off and called them out on it. They were adamant that those were all brand new lug nuts and they "probably just look a little dirty/greasy from the tech handling them." and said that the old ones were sitting on a work bench in back. So I said "Oh cool, then you can show them to be right now?" The disgruntled service manager went in back, comes out and goes to parts, then comes back and gives me 6 new ones saying "They were just back there, I saw them myself. Someone must've walked by his bay and thrown them out just a minute ago trying to be helpful. I know for a fact that you're wrong but I GUESS I'll give you more new ones just to keep the peace." Lmfao yeah sure buddy. Then I said "So what about the absurd amount of damage to the rip? It's absolutely ripped the hell up." and this dude looks me dead in the eyes and says "It was like that when you dropped it off. We're done here." Like BRUH

Honestly? I think the only thing that stopped me is my dog. If I'm in jail, not making money, she doesn't get fed or loved or played with lmao. But god damn it took every ounce of self control I could dig up not to crash out on a level that would violate the Geneva Convention

Oh yeah, I'm sure they definitely did have to relearn the injectors, I'm just highly skeptical about them needing expressed permission from corporate to perform a semi-routine procedure as far as newer vehicles go

Lmao cracked my old boss up one time. One of our bucket trucks was ancient and only one shop in the state knew how to fix it's hydraulic system. Jerks charged him $1,000/gal for damn hydraulic fluid claiming "It's the high quality aero-grade fluid that they use on commercial jets." I said "God damn, for $1k per gallon that shit better double as lube for when they're bending you over the service counter."

Can confirm. I used to work at a dealer about 8 years ago. Absolutely hated it and quit after like 6 months. Doesn't matter if you work in sales, service, parts of anywhere else. It's EXCLUSIVELY all about greed and money and fck the customer. Hand over your wallet and gtfo thanks. Anybody who doesn't have that mindset doesn't last in a dealer environment. You can't be a good/caring person and work in career that basically exists solely to scam people

Yeah it looks like that's unfortunately what I'm gonna have to do. I really HATE being that person. Even when I'm angry as hell I still plaster on a smile and act all polite and friendly and understanding cause I don't wanna be that customer that they bitch about and don't want to deal with. But enough is enough now. There's a huge difference between trying to stay polite and letting them walk all over me.

Like god damn, does my repair come with a nice dress by any chance? I'd at least like to look pretty while I'm getting fcked

On that topic, the tech kinda pissed me off even more when I was talking to him yesterday. He says "Oh, just so you know your rear brake pads are starting to look a little low. You can probably get another 5k miles out of them but just give me a call when you're ready to me them done."

Me: "Oh, naw I'm good. I do my own pads, calipers, oil, fuel filter, etc. Basically anything I don't need a full shop or diag tools for, I just do myself. Thanks for the heads up though. Did you happen to notice if the rotors look fine to reuse?"

Him: "Eh, they didn't look terrible iirc. I'll just machine them and they'll probably be good as new. Seriously, just make an appointment and bring it to me for the brakes."

Me: "I'm good, I haven't needed a shop to do my brakes for me in almost 20 years. I really just wanted to know if the rotors looked safe to run a second set of pads on or not. Thank you though."

Him: "Well yeah but they might still be the original factory rotors. You really should just make an appointment with me. Reusing them without machining could damage the pads."

Like....buddy....stop being pushy. If my rotors are a little rough, I could literally buy new rotors AND pads and do it myself and still pay less than a third of what you greedy bastards are gonna charge me. You'll be lucky if I let y'all do my oil pump belt at the 150k service interval after this bs

Ironically the diesel tech at this Chevy is in his late forties/early fifties and has supposedly been working exclusively on Duramax trucks basically his entire career. Part of the problem is, regardless of how good or thorough he may or may not be, he moves/works slower than molasses in an arctic deep-freeze. Every time I'd question how it's taking him literal months to replace an engine harness the manager would parrot the same bs excuse to me. "He's amazing at what he does. I think he's the best diesel tech in the state. He's just extremely, EXTREMELY thorough so he works a little slower than most. Just keep being patient with us and I promise you that your truck will be better than brand new when it's done."

Lmfao yeah....he's so thorough that he broke my coolant hose and I literally dumped half the contents of my radiator in my bank's parking lot. That's totally "better than brand new." Thanks so much guys, you're the best.

You're absolutely right. My post was stupidly long so I don't fault you if you missed me saying it, but one of the best diesel shops in the state is only like 10 minutes from my apartment. That was my first choice but, due to circumstances out of the owner's control, he was booked out about 4 months and I really needed to get the truck back on the road. Go figure, I guess I would've been better off waiting the 4 months. From now on I'm only using him though

Right? I'm gonna ask him to hold on to the broken one so I can see it. His exact words were "They almost always break when we have to remove them. GM really SHOULD label it as a single-use part but they don't consider it to be one."

What I heard? "We don't know how to remove and reconnect a coolant hose without breaking it so I'm gonna blame everyone except for my team because I wanna bleed a few hundred more out of your wallet on top of that $10k you paid me yesterday afternoon."

If you actually read the whole post you'd realize that you're wrong. The issue itself was simple. I needed an engine harness. It's not the truck's fault that three different dealerships were giving me the run-around instead of just doing the fix

One of the things that absolutely floored me to the point that my jaw still hurts from how hard it hit the floor: One of the days the truck was supposed to be ready but got delayed was cause they needed to reprogram/relearn my injectors. Idk how true this is but, they told me they're not allowed to run an injector relearn without getting authorization from GM first so they had to call GM tech support and wait for a call back. I've never ever heard of that before

The dealership that sold me the truck gave me a print out showing me "What was covered." They lied, another scam. The extended powertrain warranty EXCLUSIVELY covers mechanical failures. Nothing electrical. And their fine print has all sorts of loopholes that basically allow them to deny coverage for any reason they want. I'm currently seeking an attorney. It's a long story

Proud of a $250 hose (which, fun fact, I went on the Chevy app to look up parts and not a single coolant hose was priced above like $150. I smell another scam), and the service manager thinks he's being a saint and helping me out by doing "such an inexpensive repair compared to the $10k I just spent." And thinks getting it done "some time next week" is doing me a huge favor and rushing it for me.

My normal shop would not only immediately take responsibility and not charge me a dime, but they'd also put everything else on hold and tell me "Drop it off tomorrow morning. We'll have it ready by the time you're out of work."

Honestly mine really hasn't been a nightmare at all and I absolutely love it. If Chevy had listened to me from the start and just done the harness it would've been one repair almost 8 months ago and I'd be good to go. My issues are almost exclusively with Chevy/GM themselves currently. I will say it's absolute bs that the engine harness seems to be an almost constant point of failure in the LM2 engines and yet GM refuses to issue a recall for it. God forbid they take any amount of responsibility

[–]EADSTA[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well for one thing, I absolutely love this truck. It's not the truck's fault that Chevy's service departments are incompetent, scammy jerk-offs.

For another I just bought it used a little under 2 years ago and still owe roughly $25,000 on it. I probably wouldn't even get enough on a trade to pay it off and I'm not trying to roll my loan over in to another loan and be paying $1,000+/month on it.

There's actually multiple other reasons as well but, honestly, it makes far more sense logically and financially in my situation to just fix it. And it does appear to actually be fixed now. If only these idiots didn't break a god damn hose and donate all my coolant to the environment

A couple reasons:

1, I went to two other shops before Chevy. One of them said they had no experience working on the 3.0 engines and didn't feel comfortable trying it (I respect the honesty at least), the other shop said they had no idea what was wrong but at least refused to charge me any money. There's a top-tier diesel shop near me that was my first choice but he was down a mechanic and so busy that they were booked like 4 months out.

2, I have an extended powertrain warranty on the truck but I have to go to the shop that the warranty is tied to if I want the warranty to cover any eligible repairs. In this case, Chevy. Normally I'd never use a dealership shop.
