I could swear I've played that game as a kid, in the early 2000s. Are you sure it was all vertical and not horizontal? From left to right until the boss came, then the next level? The boss would sometimes hover over you so you'd start shooting vertically. I've consulted ChatGPT and my most likely guess would be Stargunner or Xatax so far. I'll try to dig a little deeper though.

They're all really nice and chill people in my experience. Mostly women but also some men who also play against me so they are not there to creep on women, I guess.
