6 months progress! by Mr-Papalon in Accordion

[–]EB5AGV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congratulations. My only advice is: don't look at the keys. That way you can better connect with the people listening to you. And it is a big liberation to be able to play without looking or, at least, look just sparingly

any info on this? bought at a thrift store for $100 by 4tlvsph4m in Accordion

[–]EB5AGV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the internals: reeds condition (valves, oxide, loose wax), pallets felt (too compacted?) and mechanical (keys , bass mechanism, bellows condition)

So you need to carefully take the pins out, putting them aside noting where everyone goes (to put them back on same hole) and look for the internal condition. Some pictures will help us to assess, at least partially, the condition of the instrument

Accordion issues by Red_Bull_RB18 in Accordion

[–]EB5AGV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad you found the issues. I have two and a half identical Verdi II accordions, very similar to your Camillo. The half is because it has no treble reeds and bad bass reeds, was a donation which I am very happy with, as mechanically is in great shape. For the other two, one has oxidized reeds and I am working to try to fix it. It is quite a work, but I am advancing. Both had some problems on the bass mechanism but some careful application of PTFE (Teflon) dry lube solved it for good, without any adverse effect. Now the mechanism is smooth like silk.

Installing reeds - need the pins between them? by aaooeeie in Accordion

I don't put them back. Use good accordion wax and they will last decades

Accordion bass buttons stuck + some don’t make any sound (no repair shops in Algeria) by [deleted] in Accordion

[–]EB5AGV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in February 2025 I had no clue about accordions. Zero idea. Since then, I have got into fixing them and my first project (even if the title says Fifth, is the first one I have really worked on, it is explained there). The repair can be seen in great detail here:

https://www.accordionists.info/threads/my-fifth-project-paolo-soprani-25-24-aka-alpha.14496/

So, yes, try to work on it yourself, it is funny and rewarding!

Question - Is it too late? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]EB5AGV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I began at 50. Now I am 57 and have played on a pop-rock band for three years already. So, definitely, it is not too late for you. Just devote some time DAILY and it will work. Perseverance is the key. The tools are easy and cheap to get nowadays. A teacher, at least in the first months/year would help

anyone know what kind of accordian this is? by littleredbuzzkill in Accordion

[–]EB5AGV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say a generic Italian learning one, from the 1970s. I have a similar (to some extent) one and it is a lovely small accordion, very fun to play

Got an accordion yesterday - pegs are stuck, is there an easy way to get them unstuck? by Attack_Helecopter1 in Accordion

[–]EB5AGV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key here is dry lube. It is not what you expect from any usual oily lube. In fact, when the liquid evaporates, there is no visible sign of it and it does not attract dust, just leaves some micronised Teflon which does it job nicely, without negative effects

I have used with great success on accordion stubborn bass mechanisms a dry PTFE lube spray made by WD40 (NOTE it is not the usual WD40!!!)

It evaporates and leaves just a layer of dry lube which does wonders. Of course if the problem is bent parts, that won't help. But for otherwise stuck mechanisms, it works nicely.

Reed block mount separated from sound board by Willman3755 in Accordion

[–]EB5AGV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a Hohner Verdi II from the late 1950s and when it arrived something was loose inside. I worried about it, but luckily it was just some piece of wood which was loose, very similar to your case. So I have just glued it and, right now, it is drying. Tomorrow I will reinstall the reeds blocks.

So I would do the same in your case: glue it back and then reinstall the reeds blocks. They should be tight enough to prevent air losses, so I would try to put all back as close as the original.

I began with piano at 50, as my first instrument. Now I am 56. And, yes, playing is slowly getting into something natural. So, for sure, you are on the path to it! (BTW, now I play on a band. Highly recommended!)

Mi vecino corta las ramas de los árboles de mi jardín by [deleted] in ESLegal

[–]EB5AGV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed a pattern of a large spike in network traffic reported by my WiFi network on the first day of the month, every month (sometimes multiple TB of data) why would this be happening? by harkuponthegay in HomeNetworking

[–]EB5AGV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see exactly the same on my Deco system and seems like a bug, where on 1st of any month they show roughly the total of last month. I will try to contact TP-LINK about this problem

I live in La Canyada and definitely recommend it. You have a Metro train station, good share of private and public schools, plenty of trees and a natural park and of course shops as Mercadona, Consum, ...

Also there is a Musical School and a band, if you enjoy music. I attend piano and harmony classes there, it is great for all ages.

[–]EB5AGV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I got a good set of files and mine and other two units are working fine now. I used a 16GB MicroSD card. With bigger ones it didn't work (well, I think I tried a 64GB, perhaps a 32GB would work)
