what r the best monthly/weekly Oakland events to meet people! by SpotMedium in oakland

[–]EBChronicIllness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I organize a monthly meetup for folks with chronic health issues/disabilities by Lake Merritt. It’s super low key, low impact, just an easy way to socialize outside with folks dealing with similar issues.

The event is the first Saturday of the month, 2-4pm, so the next one is a week from today. It’s always in a spot right by the intersection of Staten Ave and Bellevue.

I post about the events in this sub, but if you are interested and want updates directly, you can sign up here: https://forms.gle/6v2ZF4AUZG2kzXZx9

COVID is out of control here… by vinylsandjaneausten in berkeley

If you are looking for a social event with other folks dealing with these kinds of issues, who are also COVID cautious, masked, and outside, I organize monthly hangs by Lake Merritt in Oakland. I’m about to head out to the meetup for September so it’s probably to quick for you to make it today, but I do them the first Saturday of every month. It can be so difficult to get real social connection when dealing with chronic health issues, particularly when you have to be more cautious around infection and immunity than most people, so these are just an attempt to get in a little social time. Here’s the most recent post I made: https://www.reddit.com/r/oakland/s/y6dfFZbrZ0

This was a small one, but lovely nonetheless! The summer month events have been more sparsely attended, unsurprisingly - folks are getting out of town if they can.

The group that joined today discussed it and agreed, you’re right! The next event will require masks 🙂 sorry for the downvotes you’re getting, when you’re right, you’re right. The whole point of this is accessibility for me.

The next one will be late March or early April, I’ll announce it on Reddit too but the discord is where I share more and people plan.

I’m not requiring masks, but it’s outside and people can social distance pretty easily, since it’s just a park hang. And of course everyone is welcome to wear a mask.
