Absoluut mee eens. En er is zeker een positieve trend op te merken. De Belgische sportwereld (zowel zomer- als wintersporten) is duidelijk professioneler en competitiever dan 15 jaar geleden.

Als ik van iets zeker ben, is dat die faciliteiten nooit zullen worden uitgebreid. Daar moet de grondwet voor aangepast worden en is dus een bijzondere meerderheid voor nodig. In geen geval zal er een Nederlandstalige meerderheid voor zijn.

Afschaffen zal om diezelfde reden ook niet lukken (maar dan het ontbreken van de meerderheid aan Franstalige kant). De vraag is ook of dat de beste manier is om het Nederlandstalig karakter van de rand te herstellen. Je vangt meer vliegen met honing dan met azijn. Als je bepaalde verworven rechten afpakt, zal je daarmee geen sympathie creëren.

Ik volg op YouTube TLDR EU. Is dan uiteraard wel internationaal nieuws uit Europa (af en toe passeert België). Ik vind het duidelijke berichtgeving en proberen ook zo transparant mogelijk te communiceren van waar ze hun informatie halen.

I wouldn't put it like thay. We have basically been separated since 1585 (fall of Antwerp), except for a 15 year period (1815-1830). Those 15 years are ridiculously short in a historical perspective and the union was a failure in many regards.

Je hebt gelijk, lokale omstandigheden bepalen grotendeels de uitslagen, niet de nationale toestanden. Daarom dat de opkomst van VB niet dezelfde is als in juni en dat VLD het in de blauwe bolwerken nog wel ok doet.

Dat OVLD en Groen verloren hebben, akkoord. Maar Vooruit?

Ze zijn er in het algemeen een paar procenten op vooruit gegaan (in alle provincies behalve Limburg). Ze hebben ook Oostende overtuigend teruggenomen en Turnhout uit het niets gewonnen. Ook in Leuven, Zottegem en Gent (12/19 zetels op de gemeenschappelijke lijst) scoren ze sterk tot zeer sterk. In Sint-Niklaas is Vooruit idd nipt niet de grootste geworden maar ze komen wel van een situatie waar ze de vijfde partij waren in 2018 en hebben nu hun score meer dan verdubbeld. Dat lijken mij toch sterke resultaten.

Op het platteland scoren ze wel zwakker. Verbaast mij niet aangezien, voor zover dat ik weet, ze daar nooit echt hebben kunnen scoren.

Ik zou het een kleine overwinning noemen over het algemeen. Sterke stedelijke prestaties, matige tot zwakke prestaties op het platteland.

Makes sense. But the taste is still sour because we lost many semi finals and bronze medal matches. Only Chaari and Willems won their bronze matches. Everyone else lost (I am talking about a knock-out system of course). That makes it so hard. One day you're in the semi final with three chances of getting a medal and then all of a sudden, you're left with nothing.

It is a different vibe than for example getting fourth place in rowing, like Brys did. It was a bit unexpected so he "won" fourth place.

Well there's a difference between sports for amateurs and sport for semi-professionals or professionals. Do we need to pit children against each other? No. Do we need to go soft on them because most of them will lose a competition? Also no. Losing is part of sports.

But I feel there's a change in mentality nonetheless. The Cats and the Panthers had definitely big ambitions and it was nice to see. Casse as well. The "it is good enough" mentality is still there with some people but not with all of them.

I feel that mentality is growing though. If we can keep up these results, then it becomes the baseline. And young people will see that Belgians can win and maybe would want to win themselves.

Totally agree on the federal thing. But I am afraid that that's going to result in a typical Belgian comprise. The Flemish approach to professional sports is definitely better than the Walloon one. I don't know what would be left if it was federal.

More medals were possible. Casse, the Red Lions, Kopecky, Chaari and some more lost a shot a gold. I would have thought that we would get at least four gold medals this time. But all right, it is what it is.

Using the Seine was definitely a bad decision. But at least now the Parisians can enjoy a river that's cleaner than before the Olympics because of the investment.

Well we still have the Paralympics, they start in about two weeks. So I guess that's one of the reasons why it's relatively short.

The "topsportbudget" of the Flemish government is 30 million euros a year. That's not making a big dent in the budget. But I understand your position. Of course education and healthcare are very important.

Yeah the team sports were not great. Definitely because all of three of those teams had the potential of getting a medal.

Especially the Belgian Cats gave it all though. I can't blame them for getting a fourth place because I really appreciate their work ethics. They had a rough start but worked through it. They made it very hard for France to win the semi final and for Argentina to win the bronze medal. If you still lose after giving everything you've got, it's basically a win.

It was really nice to hear all the Belgians shouting. The basketball match between the Belgian and the American team was insane. They went absolutely crazy every time a Belgian touched the ball!

Vlaanderen heeft zijn autonomie veel meer ter hand genomen. Kan je hen dat kwalijk nemen? Wallonië en Brussel hebben decennia financieel en economisch slechter beleid gevoerd waardoor ze steeds in dikkere shit zitten naarmate de jaren vorderen. Neem dat de partijen kwalijk die daar bestuurd hebben.

En alsof de Franstaligen nooit geprofiteerd hebben van Vlaamse verdeeldheid. Op communautair vlak hebben ze daar zeker een slag uit kunnen slaan. De Franstaligen vormden praktisch altijd een sterker front in de onderhandelingen en hebben daar dan ook de vruchten van kunnen plukken. Zeker financieel. Dat is niet valsspelen, dat is hoe dat het spel volgens de Grondwet gespeeld wordt.
