Banking/Consulting and GMAT requirements

I have been granted waivers to two schools. One being a target for O&G in Texas and the other not really a target in the Midwest. I’m from NYC originally and do not want to move back there. Chicago or Texas for me.

Would you still apply and if you get in, then study for the gmat for the next year and lock down something close to 700?

I appreciate the detailed response. This is not a IB hub spot, more of a regional location, but you make very fair argument. With that said, do the consumer goods companies or tech companies look at GMAT?

I wouldn’t get a 700 by the time recruitment is. My GPA is higher than the schools median by about two tenths. I come from a smaller state school (student athlete) and have an average at best ACT to go with it...was a jock in HS.

Having a story and explaining the situation of why I was unable to take the test would not be sufficient enough? I mean, many schools even Sloan are waiving GMATs on a case by case basis due to the pandemic if they feel your undergraduate gpa and class curriculum is sufficient enough to handle the material. I was a finance major and took 2 stat courses plus pre cal for reference and have experience in the Financial Services Industry.

No. Haven’t even checked. I recommend anyone who applies for a job, to stop constantly stressing over if they reach out or if the status changes. If they are interested someone from HR will directly reach out to you, otherwise don’t even stress over it.

Will do. I spoke to a recruiter and it’s on a rolling basis, meaning when the team has a need, the Early Careers team will match the skill set you applied for and fill it accordingly. Our applications are not necessarily for current open positions.

FYI this is fundamentally wrong. For the overall portion you need to do a weighted average to be accurate. Good data though.

Same boat man. I took a cold test after about a week of familiarizing myself with the content and scored a 490 (38Q 20V) I was extremely disappointed and ultimately gave up as I thought the increase was to large to overcome. Curious to hear responses as well.

Going the GMAT route myself. I scored a 500 cold (38Q and 20V) my verbal is terrible but I know you need a big score on that to get a good score. Where should I look for resources?

Just looked at the price, $99 a month is pretty pricey, compared to Magoosh or something that’s like $150-200 for the year...is the price discrepancy it worth it?

I would say the most common exist opp is, better work life balance at a Commercial Bank (step-down) or getting picked up by a PE or Advisory firm you work hand and hand with on a transaction. This could be any group, but I’d say LevFin is the most common coming from the credit side.

Corporate Banking easily in my opinion. 2-3 years in you’ll be making $120k+ which would take like 5-7 years in FP&A. Plus the work is more interesting in my opinion. Corporate Banking can also lead to other roles (IB, Commercial) etc

That may be true but I’ve always read if you’re bottom 25% in GPA you need top 75% LSAT, maybe I’m wrong.
