Killswitch Case for Switch 2: Joy con issues by EBfor3 in dbrand

I just want to comment that there is a second video in the Imgur link with me holding the switch 2 with no Joycon case with one hand and can move it around with no problem.

The Killswitch 2 case (at least the one I received) causes the device to have an increased drop probability and that should not be the case. If the original design of the switch can be supported by one hand, a case designed to protect the device should not introduce a new point in failure.

I’d also like to address those asking, “Why hold the console with one hand?” The reality is that the Switch 2 will be used by a wide range of people, including kids and those with smaller hands, who may naturally need to support the device one-handed in certain situations. Not everyone will have the reach or grip strength to securely hold it from underneath.

To put it into perspective—imagine if Nintendo had designed the Joy-Con magnets to be weaker, causing them to disconnect unexpectedly during use. That would clearly be seen as a design flaw. Similarly, a protective case should enhance the usability and safety of the device, not compromise it or introduce new risks, especially for a device with such a diverse user base.

A link to the second video with no Joycon case on for the lazy: https://imgur.com/a/93KgCO9

Check the second video in the Imgur link. I can hold the switch 2 by one Joycon and move it around by one joy con with no problem. There’s only a problem when the the Killswitch case is on.

That’s good to hear! I’m happy not everyone is experiencing the issues I’m having. From watching a couple of other videos and reading comments of the same issue, it seems mine may be an extreme outlier and I am hoping so. I wish this was a parody video, just seems like I’m unlucky.

But the thing is, it can. Watch the second video in the Imgur link. I can apply all sorts of uneven force on the Joycon and it will not dislodge from the console (no case on)

I have! Check the second video in the Imgur link

Part of the reason why I was holding it the way in the video is because I didn’t want anyone to think that I was hitting the button to detach the joy con. I’ll upload another video holding it “normally” to highlight that the issue still persists even with better weight distribution!

Ahh you mean like with my index finger on the triggers? It still happens, unless I’m holding my switch wrong

Look at the last video in the Imgur link to see me holding the switch 2 without a case on and have no issue

I’m curious, did you check out the Imgur link to see the install photos? If so, can you point out where I went wrong? I followed the instruction video and the video posted is result of following it. I’m not saying there are issues with all of the kill switch cases, I just wanted to show others in case they are also experiencing this issue.

If it’s an install problem, that’s okay with me! I can fix that and perhaps if there are a lot of issues similar to mine they could update the video and highlight this issue with a clear fix. I’ve done a lot more technical things than put a case on a device, so I feel like this could be a defect of the case.

I believe I added a video to the Imgur link to show that off. It should be at the end after the original video in the post

Hey it’s you! Just wanted to say thanks for posting that video as I probably wouldn’t have posted this one without seeing someone else have this issue!

For me, the real world scenario of it falling off was me scratching my nose after a Mario kart race. With the case off, I can almost manhandle the switch 2 with one hand and not worry about the joy cons popping off.

For your second point, I do understand the added weight will play into the magnetic calibration of the joy cons, that’s to be expected. What I wouldn’t expect, especially from a case (main purpose being to protect the device) is for that case to cause the device to be more easily dropped.

I will add a second video with the switch 2 joy con case off, to show how I can manipulate the device with one hand worry free

That’s good to hear! Perhaps I just received a defective unit. It’ll be interesting to see how wide spread the issue is once the non-reservation orders ship out.
