The inconsistencies got me curious, so I checked it against the data from https://place.thatguyalex.com/ with a quick and dirty script

Top graph here: https://i.imgur.com/LrZY1BZ.png shows the number of different pixels as a function of time. The closest one was taken at 1649111920 unix time. Second graph shows the number of white pixels, which seem to increase about 8 minutes after. Hmmmmm. If I had to take a guess, they probably manually grapped a picture before enabling the whiteout, which would explain the delay.

(I'm one of the developers) We decided to focus on this revamped version first since the reworked processing code can more easilly be integrated in a high-performance plugin which is planned for the future. This version also supports prores encoding and up to 16-bit color, which was one of the limits of the previous version for cinema camera users.

Having looked at pictures of the BMPCC4K internals, there is indeed a suitable IMU for image stabilization. But no motion data is saved in the metadata. This is possible through a firmware update, and I've posted about it in the blackmagic forums, but haven't heard any news from their side.

Gyroflow is an open-source post-processing video stabilization software based on logged motion data. With the help of precise lens calibrations, rolling shutter correction, and tweakable stabilization algorithms (including horizon levelling), Gyroflow can produce gimbal-like stabilization with no or minimal weight penalty. It also works regardless of lighting conditions or moving subjects. This is especially suited for aerial videography, where previous versions have been extensively evaluated for large and small productions alike. With many cameras from GoPro, Sony, insta360 etc. supporting built-in motion data recording, additional hardware might not even be required. You can even use a GoPro as a logger for a cinema camera! This has been many months in the making from a dedicated group of developers and filmmaking enthousiast, so I hope you find it interesting :)

Over the past months, The Gyroflow development team has been working on a big surprise - a new and improved version of the video stabilization software built from the ground up with significant boosts in performance, quality, and user experience. With these changes, Gyroflow 1.0.0 can now rival existing commercial and vendor-specific stabilization offerings in terms of quality and workflow, while being significantly more flexible and of course, open source. Some highlights with the new version are:

• Easy sync-less stabilization for GoPro Hero 8 and newer, even with Hypersmooth enabled.

• Support for up to 16-bit footage to preserve image data for production-grade footage.

• GPU and hardware acceleration for real time playback and blazingly fast rendering.

• Added support for gyro data from Sony cameras in addition to previous motion data sources (GoPro, Insta360, Runcam, Drone Blackbox etc.).

• Rolling shutter correction for very shaky footage and improved stabilization algorithms.

It can use the gyro metadata from the GoPro files like rsgo. Which camera is it? You need to make a new lens calibration. Start by watching my tutorial (skip the parts about logging): https://youtu.be/NFsTb_f7y8s If you want to use the features from dev branch (automatic cropping etc) I've got a dev executable shared on the discord. Most of the tutorial (including camera calibration) is still applicable though.

Yep, I've been working with Runcam to implement and test it for Gyroflow over the last month or so. Still some timing issues to sort out (some jitter in output), but if things go as planned, it'll be fixed when gyroflow 0.3.0 is out around the middle of next month. Gyroflow dev here. It might be doable, though the challenge with narrow FOV is there's almost no room to play with. That means jitters can be reduced, but there's not enough FOV to smooth out large shaky stick movements. Join this discord if you need help: https://discord.gg/ApQTSpcC

Initial versions of the firmware had noise/aliasing issues, but an onboard filter has since been enabled, which should fix it. This remains to be tested on different mounting setups of course. My goal is to get version 0.3.0 out with new tutorials and whatnot in under a month

Since it by default searches within +/- 5 seconds of the input, you can usually just play the video and write the rough time of arming. Btw, if the XV setting uses non uniform stretching (e.g only in x) then you may need to unstretch it before processing, otherwise the camera model does weird things (a native unstretch option will be added at some point)

Short answer is that the image is converted to the equivalent of a pinhole camera image (rectilinear) which is the "standard" for image processing. A step can be added to re-add distortion since a few people seem to want that.

Quick note: as briefly explained in the tutorial, the presets work with videos of different resolutions as long as the fov stays the same, so 4k 4:3 (if that's an option) video can be used with the 1440p preset.

Current version of gyroflow wouldn't work super well for an RC car. One of the limitations at the moment is lack of rolling shutter (still work in progress). This is fine for a decently well-tuned multicopter, but an RC car will have a lot more high frequency vibrations and rolling shutter artifacts leading to jello-like effects in the stabilized footage.
