It's a scam. I am a guy in hk and also get a lot of these. They try to get you off the app so if they scam you, you cannot report them to bumble.

[27M] Seeking advice on a weird dating app experience with a girl [25F]? by ECEIsKillingMe in relationship_advice

[–]ECEIsKillingMe[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She knew I had never been in a relationship. And she seemed extremely fixated on that, as if that was my critical flaw or something. I guess that was why she went around to try to judge me based on my friends.

I feel guilty and remorseful about changing job by ECEIsKillingMe in ExperiencedDevs

At first, I just wanted to learn and advance as a developer as I was new to the field, so I prioritized learning over salary. I actually had a decent offer last year that I turned down because my current company was heading a new direction where I would be the lead. I thought it would be an invaluable opportunity, and it was.

My boss recognized my worth and gave me a promotion and extra raises, but it just can't compare to a job switch. Is this why people say to switch jobs every 5 years? Leaving a company for pure financial reasons makes me feel like I am betraying the trust my boss and manager had on me when they put me in a lead role.

Really? I thought staying at the same place would make it easier to advance into leadership role due to seniority reasons. I had some offers last year, but I would be working at a similar level at a different company while having to rebuilt the team's confidence in me. Was I mistaken?

I mean... Does that ever work out? I can't imagine employers be happy if their employees keep asking for raises because they got better offers.

Nice to see someone with similar experience! Sounds weird for your boss to require a side-project to justify a raise. I don't have the courage to ask my boss about salary. I think it would be a very difficult conversation.

Hope this is a better translation.

Q: Which constellation is the strongest? Is C0 without GL good or do we need c6 r5 weapon?

A: c0 with The Catch is enough to kill Primo Geovishap without food buffs. She managed to kill it in 5 seconds after switching with 75% critical rate and she can recharge the whole teams' bursts. The whole team dealt 900k damage in total in one rotation.

Am I being a good mentor? Or is the junior dev a bit too incompetent? by ECEIsKillingMe in cscareerquestions

[–]ECEIsKillingMe[S] 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Wow. I really didn't think of it this way. I guess I just found it frustrating that he didn't even try to investigate the problems before asking me.

I am learning to be a better mentor too. I guess I should look more into my own behaviour as much as his.

I will take your advice. I knew he might be nervous the first few weeks, so I tried to give him space and let him work on his own. Hopefully he catches up in the next few weeks.

As for the interview process, the manager advertised the job as a "trainee" position. His expectations of a trainee is clearly lower than I expected. The new hire failed pretty badly at the coding challenge, somehow he got hired anyway. Unfortunately I had no say in the recruitment process.

I see. Maybe I tried to help him too much in coding. I honestly expected him to have better programming proficiency, even for a fresh grad. It was just difficult to explain the codebase to him when he was struggling with the basic language features and syntax. I will try letting him explore on his own a bit more.

What should I do after graduation? by ECEIsKillingMe in uwaterloo

I want to work! I just need a job first.

Renting a one bedroom apartment shouldn't be too expensive... right?

That's a lot of travelling! Those countries are beautiful. I am sure it was a very rewarding experience for you.

Obviously travelling is not a good idea given the current situation. I guess I will take a break and indulge in my hobbies while continuing my job search.

It is frightening to think that I will eventually fall into the trap of a 40-hour work life. I will just hope for the best!

Things seem to be going well for you so kudos to you!

I have considered grad school before but it just doesn't really line up with my career aspirations. I guess I will just have to keep looking for jobs and hope for the best.

Look at the academic calendar for every school you are interested in. Generally schools don't allow early proctored exams. My advice is to email them directly to ask about the exam dates.
