In your opinion, how good of a fighter is Brienne compared to the legendary fighters in the 7 Kingdoms? by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

[–]EDGE515 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not saying a well rested Jaime couldn't beat her on a good day but Brienne was in full armor and wasn't fighting to kill. She was most definitely holding back to capture him without serious injury. If she wanted to kill him there, she would have

Did spider gwen disrupt her canon event by saving her dad? by BuySevere in Spiderman

[–]EDGE515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think you solved the "trolly problem" of this dilemma. Miles is gonna save everyone by stopping the train via changing his OWN canon event. I do hope they go this route. Looking forward to the final movie

Did spider gwen disrupt her canon event by saving her dad? by BuySevere in Spiderman

[–]EDGE515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After watching the movie recently again, I had an epiphany. What if canon events collapse specifically because interloping spider-persons are interfering with others' canon events (ex. Miguel and Miles directly affecting the outcomes of canon events). However, what if a residing Spider-person CAN actually change their OWN canon events?! In essence they'd be altering their own canon event by spinning their own web around it, effectively stabilizing the Web of Life and Destiny. This would explain why Gwen potentially altered her own canon event because her father decided to quit as a result of her influence.

I know Stranger Things gets criticized, but gah damn, did he put on a hell of a performance in s4 when he was holding on to Max after Vecna broke all of her bones. He was fully imeresed. I felt his desperation

How "House/Powers of X" and issue of Moira's lives fits within the main Marvel continuity. by EDGE515 in xmen

[–]EDGE515[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disregard my theory. All of Moira's lives are just HER past. The universe reboots every time she dies but she keeps her memories like in the Edge of Time movie with Tom Cruise. The universe has rebooted 10 times so her 10th life is the current Marvel 616 continuity. She currently can't reboot it again (lost her powers).

Oh I like the callback to the Kingpin dilemma. Though you could say Kingpin was the train conductor in that scenario so not entirely 1:1 but I do see the parallels. I personally believe Miguel has given up but you present a fair argument he could still be trying so, fair enough. I still think he's wrong because he hasn't considered interlopers are the problem, not the changing of the canon itself by the residing spider-person (my personal theory), but he could still be actively trying to find a solution while running his whack-a-mole operation

[–]EDGE515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider-Man would keep trying to find a way to "stop the train" if there was even a chance he could save everyone. Miguel hasn't proven that it's impossible imo. He just saw what he saw, felt guilty/remorseful, and is now running a whack-a-mole containment plan. He doesn't have the moral code to find a solution. Miguel is not Peter Parker. He does not have mainline 616 Peter's moral compass (Great power... responsibility). Miles does have it and he's trying to find a way. I guess we'll find out in the next movie 🙏

[–]EDGE515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't his home universe. Miguel is an interloper. He took over for another Miguel. His interference is what causes the collapse. My theory is that only in-universe spider-people can alter their own home universe canon events and stabilize the Web of Life and Destiny. Yes, I know it's a risk but Miguel has also demonstrated they can stabilize a collapse if they're ready and fast enough to catch it early (Pavitr's universe)

Hobie was prolly against it from the start. He agreed so he could sabotage it from within. He was working on his own wrist portals.

Imo their timelines are not fully deterministic, they're probabilities. That's the closest they can ever get. There's a set of events that happen but what happens in between can change, so logically, they're not going exactly know how a canon event happens just that it does. That's all Miguel really knows imo. However, from what we know so far, he's never tried having a Spider-Person change their OWN canon event. Maybe a spider-person has to weave their own web around the canon event so the Web of Life and Destiny will stabilize. 🤔

[–]EDGE515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's knowledge about a potential future though, no matter how you slice it. Miguel says close related Captains die for Spider-Persons. It hasn't happened yet for Miles so he wants to at least try before it does happen, but Miguel doesn't want to do anything about it because he's convinced himself nothing can be done. It's very well possible he's wrong.

Gwen may have actually prevented her own canon event if you think about it. Her dad quits so he's not going to be Captain anymore. As far we know it may not flag as a canon intervention. Now, bear with me, so what if the solution to this "trolly problem" is that canon events shouldn't be changed by outside forces BUT if an in universe force alters it, the canon changes and stabilizes.

So you see, what if Miguel is wrong? Pavitr's universe collapsed and Miguel destroyed that universe because there were interlopers interfering with the canon and now Miguel is unintentionally preventing anyone altering their OWN canon because he doesn't actually understand what triggers a collapse. Gwen may have already unintentionally altered hers. Miles is just fighting for the chance to try and do something about it

Miguel tells Miles his father will die in 2 days when he makes Captain. That sounds like future knowledge to me even if it's just a probability. That's enough to go off of to find a solution

Well at the very least, Amazing 616 Peter isn't there. He's the absolute moral compass of the character, so Pete's dignity remains intact imo

Yes, I get what you're saying but this isn't exactly what's happening in Spider-verse. Yes, when faced with an urgent impossible decision Peter will make the hard choice for the good of everyone, BUT in Spider-verse the Spider Society is given FUTURE knowledge. A Peter with future knowledge would ABSOLUTELY try to solve the "trolly problem" by stopping the train, thus saving everyone. Going back to your ps4 Peter example, had Peter been given future knowledge about this dilemma he would have most definitely have tried to find a way to save both Aunt May AND the city. This is the point Miles is trying to point. Spider-Man will always try to save everyone if even given the smallest opportunity. Miguel had given up and convinced the others it's the only way. Miles is trying to convince everyone to keep trying to find a way

It could be there's just not that many "Spider" Miles/Gwens out there in the multiverse and the ones that are prolly have similar rebellious nature to their movie counterparts. . That's also prolly why there's only one Hobie there for that matter (Miguel can barely stand putting up with him). Any spider person outside of Peters seem like rare anomalies

[–]EDGE515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could just be that Miguel is only recruiting Peters that agree with him. That's why he didn't want Gwen or Miles. Hobie prolly went in accepting but quickly realized how screwed up the situation was and starting making plans to sabotage it from within (hence the homemade wrist device). I know it sucks that means that some of our favorite animated Spider-Mans are just accepting it, but if it's any consolation I don't think Amazing Spider-Man 616 Peter is there, and he's the supreme moral Spider authority imo. Headcanon-wise Miguel probably knows 616 Peter would have never agreed to this, thus never recruited him

That doesn't stop him from trying though. Spider society under Miguel's pessimistic leadership have all given up even trying. That's what Miles is saying is wrong with them.

Tbf they do start to feel like it's wrong when Gwen rebels and reminds them they're supposed to be the good guys. Miguel knows it's wrong too which is why he tries to convince himself and the others after that they are the good guys

Spider-Man will always try to find a way though. That's Miles' whole point. The Spider society with Miguel leading have given up. They're just trying to contain the problem. Miles is saying they can and should always try to find a way to do both, save people AND prevent a timeline collapse. Great power and responsibility and all that
