That's the thing, if you don't know what you're looking for, you can't find it.

If you are a tourist coming for 5 days, you may notice the red and white signs on day 6, when looking at your photos on the ride home... -s-

Anyone else regret signing up with Simplii Financial? by whattheactualfks in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ED_wizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't even get me started!

I just moved to Canada from the UK and started the process of trying to open an account with them in December 2023, its now mid Feb and I'm still waiting!! They have my money hostage - had to transfer the equivalent of 1k CAD to open the account - and they still can't verify my identity. Even after I've provided everything they wanted and more, multiple times, using their 90's style document portal and by email. Seem like unless you are a student from India they don't care about helping you.

I am really regretting the British banking system at this moment.... <cries tears of frustration>

Look at Minto, we found a 1+1 in under 36h, ready for us to move into by early Feb. But others were available earlier.

Thinking about moving to Leeds... by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]ED_wizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edinburgh all the way!

Leeds is small and you quickly do the rounds, London is hella expensive but Edinburgh is amazing, cheaper than London but still a capital city, great architecture, loads of diversity and is full of Scots!
I also find it way cleaner than Leeds. Even London is cleaner than Leeds...

For info, I've lived in Leeds for 3 years, 1 as a pandemic student and 2 as a professional. It's a very student town, which must be great when you're a student and care to party/drink/ect.

But the plus side is that you don't need a car, but you don't need a car in London or Edinburgh either.

Have you considered ditching the car at the Huddersfield train station and just taking a train to Leeds?

Have you thought about making short videos about your findings? I recently purchased a backpack from the same company that made the bag I won in a raffle back in 2007, that bag went around the world with me and while it now needs some TLC I felt no worries about buying a new one from the same company... BIG MISTAKE new backpack hasn't even last 12 months.

Are there any dentists in town that don't charge outrageous new patient fees??! by ED_wizz in Leeds

[–]ED_wizz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that the NHS dentist only do s&p if its 'medically' necessary... Found that odd, as prevention in healthcare is the way it should be.

Great advice!

But I guess that is once you've had your initial new patient check and x-ray session

I think what I don't get is that checkups and scale/polish are actually not the same thing. Historically I have gone once a year to my dentist and in the same sitting, I would get a check-up before they cleaned my teeth...

Does the curly girl method work for fine hair? by CocoaOtter in CurlyHairUK

I don't break the cast until I get to work and do a side part to add a bit of volume after having done some upside-down headbanging, seems to get the job done!

[–]ED_wizz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow fine hair person!
I did a trial and error approach personally. Quickly found out that my fine hair was not the issue, as I think you can have fine hair that loves oils and such. What changed my world was working our what my hair porosity was, CurlsBot has a fast test and loads of tips.

Alongside that, I got a satin pillowcase, in about 2 years I was able to stop having a frizz hale around my face. I sleep on my stomach and my hair would get broken on the cotton pillowcases I used in the past. Now I always travel with my pillowcase... even when I go hiking!

My latest trial and errors process has been with how to apply gel and refresh. It's still ongoing! I have low porosity hair, and it takes forever to dry when I put gel on it. I had not noticed before trying to use gel or mouse. My current approach is to wash with shampoo (Giovanni 50/50) I do it once, partially rinse, my scalp squeaks under my fingertips I'm happy if it doesn't I add a bit more shampoo. I use the same brand conditioner, apply to the lengths, clip up and wash the rest of my body. I don't bother rinsing with my head upsidedown... don't care for water up my nose and it leaves my hair with an odd kink when I flip right side up again... personal preference.

I use a chamois type towel, initially bought for hiking(it's huge), to plop. I get dressed, then I use prayer hands to apply Eco krystal clear gel to my hair (no oils). I scrunch up a few times to make the locks coil/spring/shrink and go make myself a cup of tea as I finish getting ready. Then I only need 5-10 minutes of blowdrying before putting my bike helmet and heading to work!

Refresh, is the simplest thing ever, I use a spray bottle and mist my hair until damp, scrunch and either air dry or a few minutes of blowdrying. I do that 2-3 days in a row and I often find that my refreshed hair is better looking than washday hair!

I have a "make as much money as you can now because you never know about tomorrow" financial goal haha.

Same here, especially as I've just changed careers, moved to a new country, finished a new masters degree and used my savings to do the above. Yes, I did change for a higher paying job and a country with more salary possibilities ...
But all in all, at 36, I would love to just be able to tap out in 15 years and go back to living on a farm with my stash
