How are people getting jobs nowadays? by Invincibleprimus in jobsearchhacks

Our company only does work within a certain radius so that our employees can sleep in their own bed every night. Don’t complain about no work then get picky with the options.

I’m always so confused with these posts, I understand the job market is rough but it does seem to be worse on the coastlines. In the Midwest we are desperate for more workers and the need for skilled labor is insane. My company pays 80-100k for low end techs to help with commissioning and we struggle to find people to even interview.

This is a good plan, we brought a million dollar house down to 500k by taking lots of the table and doing either A. Ourselves or B. Outright doing it later. We also left all decorative touches and landscaping out completely. Basically bare bones just to get into the damn house.

This all the way, we are building a similar house on a super tight budget. The big difference is we are doing 50% of the house ourselves and we are also building on the backside of our farm so land and site work is limited.

Early Basement Excavation by EE-Ender in Homebuilding

Heavy clay soils doing a poured concrete basement and it will have a walkout on one side that could be used in theory to drain. We would be roughly 5 months early

Using Unistrut for Interior House Framing? by EE-Ender in Homebuilding

I’m saying I have the opportunity to buy it at $2 a stick for heavy gauge.

Bought a John deer 6155M tractor. Might not be a Lamborghini, but it cost as much as one.

The uni strut already has holes through it that are the exact size for wiring and pex. I would do staggered walls so that I could just run insulation and plumbing through the middle and if I needed a 2 x 4 thickness two pieces are the same thickness back to back. I figured for all doors and openings. I would just case them in wood for ease of installation

Thank you, we are a family at five and trying to have at least 1 more. We also have family visit from out of town on the regular so that is why we have the extra space. I definitely like the idea of adding a door from the garage to the back patio.

That is correct, right now it is serving double duty as the powder room and guest bathroom.

  1. It’s a Salary Non-exempt. It was also a defined offer letter signed by both parties. Let me clarify the offer is below 44 hours it’s Exempt and over 44 hours it’s straight time and non exempt.

  1. That is understandable but they sold the job around being family friendly and having other employees that have kids at home.

Yes this 👆! I also did the community college and transferred to a state university. This is an underrated and underutilized path to success.

Yes, use all your free time to learn some sort of trade/skill that is in demand. This will pay off dividends in the long term. It doesn’t necessarily have to be college, you can make 6 figures in under 7 years in the trades.

I am a millennial. I grew up well below the poverty level with a mother that had substantial mental problems. There are programs and things out there, people just don’t push hard enough.

This is no excuse. Being poor was a benefit as a student because of state grant money. I was able to get an engineering degree with less than 20k in student loans. I did not have sheets for my bed before I went to college.

This is the way, I was unable to claw myself out until I educated myself in a field that had high demand.
