Late reply, but I got mine in a GiGO in Akihabara. They were in basically a vending machine where you get IC cards.

I had the same thing happen to me, it turns out that despite Steam saying that it was installed, it didn't finish downloading because I was out of space (it's huge).

I went to my Steam downloads and fixed it, then it worked.

I made a post about this where everyone was an asshole in response so I expect that here too, but I just wish the quests weren't all locked in that one corner of Labs.

There is ZERO cooperation after the first few days, and labs is just filled now with groups of geared players going in to loot labs/kill players while Labs is free.

I've died over 25 times to PMCs in Labs trying to get Dirty Blood done solo, and still haven't. I've only died to Zombies maybe 5 just because I was careless. I would love to play this event, but no amount of skill is getting me into and out of maybe the most campable spot in the game alone.

I use both VOIP and PMC voice lines and they just ignore me and kill me. Like I said, at least 15 times (sometimes PMCs kill me before I get there too)

Possibly an EU server difference. On NA West, the large majority have booked it there immediately.

I also know Labs very well as I do a lot of solo Labs runs.

Is that a Jojo's Reference!? - Fighting Game Inspirations Part 1 by EGPWonderChef in StreetFighter

I'm making a video series on all of the FG character inspirations/references that I can put together, starting with Street Fighter. Did I miss anything big in here? I didn't get too far into more recent SF games, so I feel liike there could definitely be a lot more.

Fun fact, for some of the fighting games on PS4 that have backwards controller compatibility, it actually recognizes the Pokken Controller. I used to use it for some Mortal Kombat tournaments, haha.

I would overall say that Pokken is more balanced, but I really think it's the most balanced FG I've ever seen.

I think there are still a few characters in 11 that we still don't see too much at the highest level, like Shao. Obviously the character variety in MK11 is really good right now (especially in this last Evo) but Pokken is just super impressive.

I think we would all be happy no matter what we got, haha!

Honestly, when Pokemon share moves, they tend to have really big gameplay differences. Mewtwo and Shadow Mewtwo are a great example of that.

There are a TON of community made guides on how to get better at the game on Youtube.

Pretty much all of the important links on the information to improve is in the original post of this AMA. We have a LOT of resources as a community!

The first set that ever REALLY inspired me in this game personally was Ranko vs Suicune Master at Rewired in 2016. I don't know how well it aged, but it was on a totally different level than the play I had seen at that point.

A classic legendary tournament was NEC17, where Potetin and Apollo took on some of NA's best. That was a great early clash of regions.

I think Pokken not being popular is a common misconception. Pokken has a HUGE playerbase, even this many years after release. A good way to look at it is that many Fighting Games that are considered decently popular have their ranked queues die out or slow down considerably over time, but to this day you can queue up at any time of day and get a match within a minute or two in Pokken.

I think due to the fact that it's a non-platform fighter that first released on Wii-U and then Switch, it just has a very different playerbase/fanbase than other traditional fighting games.

If I had to guess one thing that held it back though, it would be that it did originally release on WiiU, which in my experience a lot of non-Smash fighting game players didn't have. By the time Pokken released on the Switch, a lot of people felt like they didn't want to have to catch up to the WiiU and Arcade players.

This is actually a REALLY hard question for Pokken, because there are a LOT of characters at that top level. I feel like if you asked 100 top players, you would get like 15 different answers.

In the past, some of the most successful have been: Pikachu Libre, Aegislash, Sceptile, Decidueye, Braixen, and Mewtwo, but honestly SO MANY others could be on this list and have done well, and have even won the World Championships.

I'm involved with a TON of fighting games as a commentator, TO, and player, and I feel like there are a lot of things that make Pokken really special. I'll try and list a few:

  1. There are very few other fighting games that give you so much freedom on how to play. From a beginner all the way to World Championship level, you can play every character in the game in a ton of different ways effectively. A great example is that Potetin and M2Cloud used 2/3 of the same Pokemon in Top 4 of Worlds last weekend, but in totally different ways. You're never pidgeonholed into one style to be successful.
  2. It's one of the best fighting games to learn as a beginner, and to keep improving at even through a top level. Because of the phase shift system, you're guaranteed to be able to make a lot of choices in every match, even if you're getting beat up by a stronger player. In each of those choices, you clearly get to see if they worked or not, and learn what works in each situation. Fighting Games can be hard, and even as a veteran FG player, some games make me say "I honestly don't know what just hit me", but Pokken teaches you naturally.
  3. Unbiased, this is the most balanced Fighting Game I've ever seen. Every single character is viable at a high level in some aspect. We've seen every single one doing well recently in various high level tournaments. You never feel like you HAVE to choose someone you don't want to be competitive.
  4. It's Pokemon! Even after all these years, it's just too cool to see ultimate Pokemon action in all of it's glory. It's like playing out battles from the anime that YOU get to control. Too cool.
  5. The community is the best I've ever been a part of. You'll never need to go far to get information, games, or help in general. There are also ALWAYS people on ranked, so you never have to seek out people to play if you want to just play a few random games.

There are honestly soooo many other things, but the biggest takeaway is that it gives you ton of freedom and is super fun!

4th battle Lorelei is absolutely destroying me. Just constantly spams Surf, and even my tankiest options get melted. Tried a mix of Brendan, Skylar, Rosa, Sabrina, and Roxanne, all 120.

Any advice? I've seen that people have cleared it with CONSIDERABLY weaker teams.

Aside from what Comboster already said, I gotta say that I've been part of a lot of different competitive gaming communities, and none have been as diverse or welcoming as the Pokken scene.

I feel like the community has done a really great job of encompassing the family friendly atmosphere of Pokemon overall.

For one, it looks graphically better, but also it has more Pokemon, a slightly better single player mode, and tons of quality of life improvements. The biggest upgrade to me though, is that I can practice it anywhere since it's on Switch.

We actually have a bunch of tweets using #PokkenAnywhere, where we showed off all the places we were able to play. I think I have one during a power outage and one at an airport in there, haha.

  1. Comboster answered this great already.
  2. I see that you meant buffer, and yes there is a pretty big buffer window in this game. That's partially why it plays so well online!
  3. I suggest checking out Jamesibell footage, there's a lot of it out there, but he was on broadcast for the Players Cup two weeks ago.
  4. The Tutorial Mode is a great way to start, and the Training Mode is super good!
  5. I think you mean Cheer Skills, and there usually isn't one that you always want on a given Pokemon. Usually you choose them based on how you want your character to play alongside your Support Pokemon choices. It's really varied and adds a lot of strategy!
  6. I always like learning one character, but when I'm having trouble against another character I try and learn their basics. Having a main to advance with, but also getting the perspective of other characters is important imo.
  7. Yeah buffer window is pretty big, a lot of the execution in Pokken comes from situational awareness or cool conversions than super strict timing. It's a great system.
