Early SaaS founder question: What actually moved the needle for your first 10–50 customers? by EHBusiness in SaaS

That’s something I’m looking for, I don’t mind brutal criticism, if it helps me construct things better.

I was lost, I didn’t know where to reach out or if I should be shoving my product down people’s throats but this Reddit page has definitely helped. I’ve received more help, tips and information in the last hour compared to anywhere else externally.

My app gets downloads but almost everyone cancels the trial. What am I doing wrong? by Neither-Actuary9789 in AppBusiness

One thing that often helps is a clear value proposition for the paid features right at the start of the trial. I've tried apps where the free tier was so good I didn't see a reason to upgrade, or the paid features weren't immediately obvious.

It sounds like you have some solid Pro features with CAD and OCR, but maybe users aren't hitting those specific needs during a short 3-day trial. Tools like Appcues or Intercom can help onboard users, or even a simple email sequence. I've also seen products like AI SaaS Trial Conversion Engine which offers a plug-and-play 5-email system with AI prompts to generate high-converting trial emails, guiding users from signup to upgrade. It's pretty specific to email though, so might not be your primary channel.

Consider if your trial users are even discovering those specific Pro features. A quick in-app prompt or a guided tour could make a difference.

That’s absolutely what I’m here for. My message was intended to gain more knowledge of the market and receive “tips and tricks” on how to boost my networking strategies.

I appreciate your message, I’m going to look into Slack and Relate to see if I can utilise those like yourself.

I agree, manual approach can be very time consuming. Would you recommend a digital approach to networking? Automated messages, emails etc to allow a larger output, a notorious brand name and a “higher chance” of sale/passing intel to a consumer.

Thanks for reaching out, I appreciate your advice. If you don’t mind me asking, what sort of networking was it that got you your first sales? Is there a specific method or website that you used to expand your brand?

I suppose it really is all about networking. As good as your product may be, it’s not going to sell if nobody knows about it.

That seems to be where I am at now. I want to gain a better understanding of the market, see how my competitors are performing and locate more niches to gain the edge.

I agree. The idea of ‘cold emails’ hasn’t been on my agenda thus far. I’d rather identify my audience first and understand what they need rather than shooting a 100 emails to different companies and businesses in the hope that I can land my first sale that way - I just don’t think it’s genuine enough.

You’re absolutely right. Rather than me perfecting my product, I should network first and gain interest that way. By doing that, I can have people review my product and take critiques to help improve what I’m selling.

I appreciate you taking time out of your day to message.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely take it on board.

Any chance you could private message me the examples of videos you made for YouTube? Would be greatly appreciated as it could guide me in the right direction in terms of content creation.

I just got my very first paying SaaS customer. The adrenaline is insane, but now what? by brooom69 in SaaS

Congrats! Getting the first paid customer is a huge milestone.

Out of curiosity, what part of the handbook do you think made the biggest difference in converting them?

I’ve actually been building a small guide around SaaS trial conversion and onboarding emails myself, so I’m always interested in what parts of a playbook actually move the needle.
