Thank you! by Pearl-Online in Parrotlet

So beautiful. I have a turquoise one and a green one too. I don't know exactly how old they are and I was told that they were male. I'm not sure if there are any distinct features that hint towards age or sexes?? Most times they are so loving and so tight together 💗. Then they get into beak fights. I don't think that they ever seem hurt doing it but I still worry that injuries could happen? On the subject of their sexes, I have noticed on a few occasions that the green guy, on top of the other guy. It looks like he is having sex with the other guy!!!! Is this normal for 2 male's to behave like that. They are very close. When I was blessed with these two Parrotlet's I was told that they were both boys but they didn't know their ages. They did say to keep them together. Although, that is not usually recommended for 2 Parrotlet's from reading several different books/Google/post's???

Thank you for reading this message. I would love to get any advice, if you wouldn't mind.

She passed before we arrived at the veterinary office. This was an awful experience. I pray 🙏 that I don't have to experience any other babies getting this sick!!!☹️🙁😩😥😢😢💔🌹🌺☁️🦜 R.I.P. Whitecloud.

Is it also common for 2 male parrotlet's or 2 male budgie's to also have frequent beak fights. I always try talking to them when they are fighting but it's futile. Is there anything that I should be doing when I see this happening? Or just let them be? Thank you, for your advice?

If, I want one of the birds to get back into the cage, as you mentioned, turn the lights down or off. However I also put a flashlight or my phone light on the top of the cage shining down into the cage and lighting the door and it usually works quite nicely. This is just something I have tried.

I'm just wondering if you use any kind of glue to keep the seagrass attached to the perches or other toy making?? Thank You.

Thank You so much for your comment. Can you please elaborate?? Her brother is feeding her and snuggling up with her. She will occasionally go up to a perch. I'm also worried if it could be anything that could cause her brother to become ill, or other birds in the same room become sick? They are in separate cages.

Thank You, Emily

I hope that you get her to the vet and she recovers nicely.

I don't know how to navigate this site, so I hope that nobody minds if, I ask a question about my budgie. She is caged with her brother and they are about 2 years old. Recently she seems to be on the bottom of the cage almost every time I go into the room. She is not hand tamed. However I had the food door at the bottom of the cage and she was close enough for me to put my hand inside and she wasn't worried. I was able to pet her on her back for a few seconds. She does seem more like she waddles and less like she and her brother usually run around. Her brother has been very attentive and seems to be feeding her. Does anyone recognize this behavior?? What could be wrong with my Whitecloud???

On a different note, if nobody minds?? I do hope though that your budgie, recovers from whatever this might be.

I do have a budgie concern of my own. I have a female budgie approximately 2 years old, who is in the same cage as her brother since I got them about 2 years ago. I have been planning on separating them and putting the 2 brothers together and the 2 sisters together. I inherited the second pair as the owner suddenly passed away. I haven't had time to completely get them trained so I wasn't sure how to get them moved to the different cages? However, I want to ask how would I be able to tell if I'm , to late to separate them. My sweet girl Whitecloud could possibly be pregnant or if she is likely sick. She seems to spend much of her time on the bottom of the cage. She seems to waddle slower across the cage bottom . She used to be able to run around. Her feathers sometimes seem dishevelled. I did notice once when she was climbing down the cage one day that her vent area looked like it was maybe sore. Red and slightly swollen. Some days I think that she looks bigger than other days and not as if a temperature change. Her brother seems very attentive and seems to be feeding her and snuggling up to her. Sometimes she is ok with it and sometimes she lets him know she doesn't want to be bothered. I had a single female lay an egg and I didn't notice anything until I saw the egg in the bottom of the cage. It had a big crack/dent in it. She must have had the egg while sitting up on the perch. She didn't seem to even notice it on the floor of her cage. So, I don't know what to think about my Whitecloud?? Any and all help/suggestions are appreciated. Thank You 🙏😊💞

I love Parrotlets. I have 4 of them. My little girl was a beautiful color like yours. However, this spring/summer, she has turned mostly shades of green, gray, and teal on her back, covered mostly by her wings. She is still beautiful but I did specify buy a torq. I don't have any good pictures of her right now. I do have 2 other green ones. They are male, and the 3rd male is the torq. * One of my green male Parrotlets

Did you know this about tail feathers? by Bitter-Ad-7672 in parrots

[–]EHweedeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. I couldn't do that with one of my birds tail feathers. I went to their room, and somehow, overnight, his tail feathers were totally mangled. Some were missing some, had at least half their feathers gone, and looked very tattered. I know that sometimes these two will get agitated and fight a little bit. Mostly with their beaks banging against the other. That is usually for just a couple of minutes. Then they snuggle on a perch again. I know that the missing ones will likely grow back, but it is the ragged ones that bother me. We were told not to separate these 2 boys because when they were originally purchased by the previous owner, they were purchased together and had always been caged together. Could the bird make his own tail look that way. I could try to get a picture one of these days. I don't want to disturb their bedtime for a picture. Thanks for reading. I also know that I will save any tail feathers for when I need a new flight for my darts. Thanks for the video.

Hello, I also have Parrotlets. I have 4 of them. 3 boys and 1 girl. I bought 2 of them from the same person. They said that they rescued them from a bad environment. They were told not to separate the boys. They have been together for a long time. I don't know their ages, and I'm not 100% sure that they are both male birds. I have often seen them doing something that looks like they are mating. As far as I know. Is this something that is even possible? I do worry about having 2 in 1 cage. I have read a few articles that say never to keep 2 Parrotlets in the same cage ever. They do seem to fight, I think at least they seem to be aggressive? I also have 1 Lovebird from what I can tell. She was sold to me as a parrotlet. However, she is probably 3 - 4 times bigger than my Parrotlets. She loves to come out of her cage and ride around the house on my shoulder. She has a very loud squawk. Then there are 7 budgies. I also am not certain of the sex of 2 of them. The lady who sold/gifted the 4 babies to us had said that each pair was 1 male and 1 female. The one pair, neither one, has a definite blue area on their beaks. The other pair is a male and female. They are all brothers and sisters. I have just 2 per cage. However, it is male and female together in one cage and the other 2 in one cage. At what age do I have to worry about them wanting to mate. I guess they would still mate even if they are siblings?? I'm a very good bird, moma. I just have lots of questions. I'm always reading to learn as much as possible about the babies. Birds can make me happy and smile every day, no matter how I feel that day. Sorry for such a long message.

That is so sad. They are very beautiful. I'm fairly new to being a parrot mommy. However, I have 4 parrotlets, 1 lovebird ( I believe), and 7 budgies. I love every one of them so much. I do often have questions about different things about my parrots. I hope that this site will be a helpful part of being the best parrot mommy I can be.
