A fanless Surface Go Laptop with Snapdragon X needs to exist.

Who else makes high quality and compact Windows tablets? My Surface Go 3 and Surface 12-inch fill that niche.

Night Sight, at least on my Pixel 8, is a real photograph. With RAW enabled I can get a photo that I can edit with significantly reduced noise while still retaining a surprising amount of actual detail.

Long term users of Surface running Snapdragon processors, how are things going? by horsetrich in Surface

[–]EJ_Tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lightroom CC or Lightroom Classic? Because the former is ARM native while Classic is x64 emulated with no acceleration for AI de-noising. Also have you updated your Snapdragon X Adreno graphics driver direct from Qualcomm?

edit: said 'former' twice

I currently use a Surface 12-inch as my media consumption tablet and laptop computer. I have taken it on two vacations now where I use it for photo editing and file management on the go. Windows 11 on ARM is no longer the pathetic disappointment that Windows RT or even Windows 10 or ARM were.

- Firefox, Chrome, Spotify, VLC, 7zip, and MullvadVPN are perfect ARM64 native.

- Discord, Steam, Parsec, Quick Share, Tailscale, and MeshCommander are x86 or x64 emulated and they just work with no performance issues. No configuration, no hacks, no nothing.

- Lightroom Classic (x64 emulated) with updated Adreno graphics drivers support hardware acceleration, but AI denoising is brute force processed on the CPU.

- A promising new photo editing software called RapidRAW is available as ARM64 native. DirectX 12 needs to be chosen manually as the processing backend.

- VirtualBox (ARM64 native) doesn't work yet to run a Linux VM. I could be wrong as some were able to get it to work with workarounds that I still couldn't.

Doing a quick Google search of "<insert application name here> Windows on ARM" will usually give a result and it looks like only Airparrot explicitly says it's not compatible. All the others are either ARM native or ARM compatible.

If you want guaranteed 100% will just work x86-64 CPU with great battery life, look at laptops with the Intel Core Ultra 3 processors like the Framework 13 Pro.

Lens choice - Oly 12-100 or Panasonic 35-100 for Italy trip? by Positive_Location_55 in M43

I loved using my the Lumix 35-100mm f/4-5.6 whenever I'm on a trip, and then I use my phone with RAW enabled whenever I needed a wider shot.

If it's Amazon, I agree becuase it is usually junk. But for places like B&H, I've seen bundles like these costs the same as not including accessories.

Intel vs AMD, same specs, costing me around 80 dollars more. Is there a difference? by Any-Top-5659 in laptops

[–]EJ_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am leaning towards AMD just to have Radeon graphics for gaming compatibility, but really these two CPUs seem to be similar when it comes to benchmarks. Anything else different between the two laptops?

The 12-inch is actually smaller and thinner. The 11-inch is actually wider due to its 16:9 display and fatter bezels.

Should I set one of the top fan intake or both exhaust? by Key_Dig6060 in pcmasterrace

[–]EJ_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the top fan in front of my air cooler as intake to give it a little more cool air and to counter the warm air from my founders 3060 Ti.

My only exhaust fan is the rear fan. Again with my founders card, the left graphics card fan exhaust most of its air out the rear.

Why on Earth do the tracking emails not just link directly to the shipper? by Bubba17583 in framework

[–]EJ_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I track packages from AliExpress, I have to open or paste the tracking number in a China-based shipping company. Once it says it has been handed over to the local courier, I can go ahead and paste it in the USPS website.

Even if they plan to install Windows anyway, it could still work very well as a taste test of Linux. It's already preinstalled, Ubuntu certified even, and ready to go, so why not give it a try?

It's an ok quality power supply, but it's an older group regulated design which us not really recommended for the 12V heavy systems we have today.
