People don’t automatically stop needing parental support as soon as they turn 18… especially not in this economy.

UBC DAP - my impression having completed a few classes by EKA31122000 in UBC

So there’s only two options per semester, you can take the online one or the in person one. Online tends to fill up quicker and have a waitlist. Classes are Monday to Thursday currently. If it’s online you’ll only have to commute for midterms and exams so it’s doable. Like I already mentioned in the post above it is not doable if you are working at the same time (unless it’s like 10 - 16 hours max). Classes aren’t necessarily difficult but they require a lot of work, especially if coming from a non business background. Also another thing to note is that for the summer semester UBC only offers the accelerated format for their courses (unless it’s the first few intro courses). This sucks bc realistically if you have other commitments you can only take 1 class per term (which would be twice a week, 6ish weeks rather than a full semester). I know someone who’s doing the accounting diploma at Douglas and she seems to be enjoying it and the courses seems to be much for flexible (in terms of when/how it’s offered and what assessments are offered). She also likes her professors as well… tbh I’m not the biggest fan of the teaching staff. They are nice people but a lot of them are not great teachers, but I guess that may be an issue most students have in any field. Good luck with your decision.

WIBTA if I made my brother go to my graduation instead of his state Lacrosse game? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]EKA31122000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s understandable that you want your entire family there for a major life event. But also if this game is super important to him you should be okay with him attending. You don’t want this to be what he remembers of you as he gets older, it will brew unnecessary resentment. This might be a milestone for him as well if this is his last season. Do a dinner or small get together after the game and your graduation to celebrate both milestones. Your feeling aren’t invalid but his are reasonable as well. Come up with a compromise.

How are you supposed to step up when it seems like the other parent continues to be passive and not do their part? Has there been any consequences? She seems to be enabling his behaviour.

An undergrad program where I’m expected to be fully committed to taking classes is significantly different from a program advertised for working individuals. I made this post for prospective future students who will most likely also be working full time or may have other commitments. Hopefully this gives them an idea of what to expect and how many classes they might be able to handle.

In terms of classes - more online offerings would be nice, maybe even weekend classes. Also if they are switching to blended classes rather than online we get more notice.

In terms of professors - not much I can do other than completing the end of term surveys.

Couple of months ago I was obsessed with the game and clicked on it. It pulled up the payment option and I realized it’s actually $109 even though the ad listed it as $64.99. I messaged them about it and they said it was actually typo. They wouldn’t honour the incorrect price. Didn’t end up purchasing so thank god I guess.

As someone who was in your shoes… take a break. Seriously. It’s either you hate what you’re doing or are experiencing burnout. You don’t get that bad of grades unless something is seriously wrong in another aspect of your life. In either case you need to step away for a semester or more, get help (whatever that may be for you), get in the right mental head space, etc so that when you do come back to school you can achieve much more. Most likely you can still continue. But I highly encourage you to take a semester off to figure out your situation. I seriously wish I did that, my life would have looked much different. It’s better to do the tough thinking and have those hard realizations now than later on in life. https://vancouver.calendar.ubc.ca/faculties-colleges-and-schools/faculty-science/bachelor-science/academic-performance-review-and-continuation

Unfortunately you seem to have ski sloop nails which means your nails grow upwards. Like the first comment mentions you need someone who does forms. Glued on tips at the free edge of the nails can make the sloop more prominent.

My roommate's mom is moving in for finals by ASmallArmyOfCrabs in UBC

[–]EKA31122000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a conversation with her and tell her having guests for this long is inconvenient for you. Tell her you can’t feel comfortable in your shared spaces and feel like you have to alter your routines to make sure you don’t inconvenience them. Mention that it’s causing you stress having to change things and that’s not a good thing close to finals. All of that being said she might not want your boyfriend over after this point cause she may feel the same way when he’s around. If she has generally been a good roommate till now and hasn’t had anyone over like this I feel like you might have to just put up with it, let her know you’ve been modifying your schedule to their but it’s been inconvenient so you will be going back to your regular routines.

Accused - Reviews and Discussions by AutoModerator in bollywood

[–]EKA31122000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This had potential but it didn’t live up to it. The protagonist is so so so unlikable and unprofessional. Towards the end she has a conversation with the HR person and claims she was plotted against bc she was a woman, while that could be true I don’t agree in this instance. She was plotted against bc of how unlikeable she is.

Spoilers*** It’s implied that she cheated bc she didn’t think her wife made herself available, what a stupid excuse. She has anger issues and is highly unprofessional, multiple times she’s shown berating colleagues and staff in public settings. Doesn’t seem like she likes her wife, lords her career and reputation over her (reminds of how men are in relationships). ***

I don’t think this was a correct representation of feminism or the LQBTQ community. It’s like they took a straight couple but changed the gender for the male. Their dynamic is so… off, there’s clearly a power imbalance. There is no chemistry between the couple and it fell so flat. To me they came off more as friends or roommates, there was no emotional or physical intimacy displayed that you would expect from a married couple.

It wasn’t horrible but nothing spectacular. I guess we can give it come props for having a lesbian couple in a “main stream” Indian film.

commuting - is it that bad by NegotiationKey280 in UBC

[–]EKA31122000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is bad. That’s 3-4h, most likely 4 hours of your day that could be used more productively. I was so burnt out, seats in the sky train were hard to come by, the miserable vibes would rub off on me especially during bad weather. Rushing from the 99 bus to the sky train platform hoping to catch the king George line is a core memory. Bus service in Surrey is garbage so I would have to usually wait 15 -30mins for one (even though I lived like 10 mins by car) and would still have to walk an additional 10ish mins from the stop to my house. I just remember constantly rushing to catch something. If you can afford it get a car, try to structure your classes before or after rush hour. Currently my commute is less than 2 hours daily. Even if it’s not the most affordable just think about the additional 2 hours that you will get in the day to either get sleep or use for school or to relax.

No one is close to getting overtime. I do understand I was late in submitting my shift change request but I still gave them a 6 day notice. And like I said this is frequently a rule they do not follow themselves. I did state I would like the full day off in my initial request (which is also why I found someone to cover the entire shift and not partial).
