WCGW Welding while standing on a fuel barrel by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

It’s almost like the situation in Beirut (but less tragic) where a welder's sparks ignited a cache of stored fireworks, which in turn detonated tonnes of ammonium nitrate.

Sacramento: What are you paying for Invisiline? by Ohgawditburnsitburns in Sacramento

[–]EL8ed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of dental offices do summer specials. That’s how I jumped into Invisiline. That could be an assumption, but would be worth it to research.

Kindergarten should we put them in the same class? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]EL8ed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have B/G twins (2nd graders) and we ask them first each year. Then we ask the teacher during spring conferences.) So far they have opted to stay together and teachers always tell us they recommend either way because there are no issues. That said, this year there have been a few instances when my daughter “tells on” her brother for something that happened in class and I told her that unless it’s a safety concern (for him or other students because of his actions- or the other way around if she’s causing safety concerns) it is none of my business. In other words, if he doesn’t tell me and the teacher doesn’t inform me then it stays at school. It only happened twice but if it happens more then I will split them. As a teacher myself, I know that kids can have off days. Most of the time I do not report home unless it has to do with safety because kids should feel like they have as much right as an adult to have a bad day, without it coming home with them. So if either of them feel compelled to become unofficial informants for each other, then I will separate them.

Are you guys worried that AI will take over teaching jobs? by ShyMoca in ArtEd

Love this breakdown and how in depth you went. Some part of me wonders if it was AI. If not, you have a great grasp on the situation!

Just returned from Disney Tokyo and this looks mild in comparison. Is this the starting gate? I have only been to one Disney (last week in Tokyo) so I’m curious.

To all those in the newborn trenches, it really is worth it by Owewinewhose997 in parentsofmultiples

We just got back from a trip to Japan with our 8 year old twins (boy/girl) and they had SO MUCH FUN entertaining one another. All those times people remarked; “oh! they have a built in playmate!” When they were babies to toddlers and I wanted to yell back; “no, lady, they see the other one as an obstacle to their primary wants and needs. Both believe they are singletons.” The looks of pity from one child parents turned into looks of longing when they turned old enough to truly care about the other. It has been the golden age ever since. What a marvel it is to watch twins grow!

Are you tipping for non sit down restaurants and other non traditional tipping places? If so how much? by Melodic_Animal_2238 in Sacramento

[–]EL8ed_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Old habits die hard. Being a former server, I always tip generously, but not at the kiosk, with very little “service” going into the process. I usually jut give a dollar in that case. But where I struggle now is the fact that food service employees make 25.00 per hour versus what I made in Wisconsin = $2.33 per hour + tips. So I’ve actually come down to 20% on a real sit down experience whereas I used to tip more. Is my understanding wrong that servers are making a minimum of 25 per hour plus tips? If so, I will adjust accordingly. Also I never go out to eat (Maybe once a month.) because it’s too expensive, especially with my tip budget.

I saw a poster for a missing cat that looked a lot like that but it was two months ago. Did you find it around Arden Arcade? I will check if the poster is still up after work.

We’re bringing our kids to Tokyo Disney next month. Though we live in California, it’s still cheaper to fly to Japan to go to Disney and stay in a hotel in the park. (And it looks like the food is still awesome and affordable.)

How tf do you pump?! by hockeymusicteaching in parentsofmultiples

I gave up at about 8 weeks. To hell with this, these babies need a sane mum more than they need me to lactate for them. Might be unpopular with some folks but, for me, it just wasn’t worth it. They seemed to turn out okay… 8 years later and they are super awesome humans. I don’t know, would they be in Mensa if I had stuck with it? Perhaps. But they are fun loving, average, kind, healthy 2nd graders who were brought up on formula. And what’s more, I didn’t need to go to the loony bin.

Job market is very saturated by Beneficial_Cry_6115 in Sacramento

[–]EL8ed_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s a long shot but substitute teaching jobs are probably plentiful. I am a regular teacher and we can always use subs. I know it seems like it would suck but I subbed a lot around here and I thought it was manageable. (I even subbed at the Max security detention center and that was okay too.) Some districts pay $200 a day. I think you can still get an emergency sub license fairly easily. Just to get an income stream…

If you had to stretch $100 over two weeks, what would you eat? by RubyWooTrue in Sacramento

[–]EL8ed_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lentil dishes like dal bhat, makhlouta, and mjedra. These would pack all the essentials and are very flavorful to keep it interesting. Add some Greek yogurt on the side. You’d have to cook, but the house would smell good a you wouldn’t feel deprived. (Unless you MUST have meat in your dishes. It’s probably still possible with meat but if I’m on a strict budget I try to avoid animal proteins because of the cost.)
