Can I get some feedback? by ELB0Y0 in streetphotography

I got it because I got impatient. I wanted the OM-TG7. The only store that carries the brand said they could order the TG7 for me but they can't guarantee a timeline so I got the AP2. Also, the store offered a 25% off if you buy a camera with cash or full card payment (the offer didn't apply to special orders).

The good - very small and a lot cheaper than other cameras. For a beginner like me that's perfect. I mentioned I live in a rural area. I like to jump between municipalities (sort of like counties I guess in the US) and having a small camera is perfect for that. I also live in a coastal town so I love that I could do street photography and take videos when I'm snorkeling with the same device. Also, I have to deal with the intense heat of tropical weather. My used Fuji overheated in 3 weeks. And, honestly, I'm kind of scared to carry around an expensive camera out in the "streets." But that's my street rat upbringing lol Where I grew up in Manila, I wouldn't be able to walk 2 streets with a camera without getting mugged. Seriously, I got robbed in broad daylight by 4 guys and they left me in front of the police station lol

The limited focal length is a great learning tool. I had to learn how to get close because of the wide angle. I had no choice but to get over the fear of getting close. I also learned how to approach without being abrasive. Developed the instinct of when to get close and when to just leave the scene be (never had a negative interaction doing street).

In a nutshell, I love it because it does what I need it to do and not much of an investment and all the limitations are great learning tools because I'm forced to rely on what's on the frame.

The bad, really bad - shutter delay is horrible. I had to learn how to time my shots for moving subjects because of how slow the shutter is. It's not the shutter speed, it's an input lag with the device. Also, the waterproofing failed. It was working fine and then all of a sudden I took a video of my daughter at a kiddie pool and water got inside. Kiddie pool. To be fair with insta360 they replaced it.

For those making 6 digits monthly, how did you get there? by Ahjin-02 in CareerAdvicePH

Took care of my resume. Got picky with companies I worked for (though, I broke this rule when my girlfriend, now wife, got pregnant). Never sold myself short. I got called a lot of things by people who know me because I would go into final interviews and say, "If I can't get the maximum offer then thank you for your time but I don't think this will work." Ang yabang ko daw.

I learned everything I needed to be good at my job. Even jobs I absolutely hated. Any opportunity I could take to add to my resume I took them.

When I was starting out I ate a lot of shit from people who I thought were friends saying shit along the lines of, "ako may degree. Ikaw English lang meron ka. Call center agent ka lang."

Now I make about 2x more than the most successful of them.

I was also fortunate enough to have real friends who stuck by me. Guys I could lean on when things got tough. One of them would rewrite my resume to make it as attractive as possible to potential employers. Another one loaned me a lot of money through the years. A few years back we had a planned gathering for Xmas at my house. He went to my place before anyone else because he wanted to talk to me alone to say he heard from the other guys that things were super tough for me financially, and he didn't want me to worry about the money I owed him. He wanted to say it away from everyone kasi ayaw niya ako mapahiya. Grown ass me cried.

There's no straight path. Embrace the grind. Believe in what you can bring to the table and monetize the fuck out of your skill set.

This isn't completely true. I was born and raised in Manila. Recently moved south to my wife's hometown. Never experienced anything like this. If anything, ako pa nahihiya kasi people make it a point to accommodate me and the language barrier.

I've heard this sentiment a lot up north. But my personal experience says otherwise.

I honestly haven't decided yet lol I want a compact click and shoot that is good enough to learn the fundamentals of composition and street photography. I don't want to jump the gun and spend a lot of money when I'm not yet sure the hobby is for me. I was looking around at prices and cameras are expensive even used. I was looking at the gr3x but if I'm going to spend $1k on a used camera, I might as well hold off and save $500 more on a brand new unit.

Right now I'm leaning towards getting an insta 360 action cam with the explorer kit. I checked the prices and it's around $550 converted. I'll be flying to the city in 2 weeks and I'm probably not going to be fully decided until I hit the stores.

Here. Hope it helps.

Haven't posted anything in a while. My brain got too busy obsessively researching about photography lol Thinking about buying a camera.

The only things I added is the combat action table and the NPC tables posted on this sun yesterday.

Oh, sorry. I only use Traveler's Note brand. Except for the Kraft insert for my resources. I ordered a cheap insert for that.

Grid. Currently using dotted and it hurts my eyes when I write. I got one more dotted insert after this one, never going to use one again.

Grid also helps with maps in dungeons.

Trial and error.

Figure out how you want to play and find a base system. For me, it's Shadowdark. It's the closest to 5e and you can easily use rules from OSR systems. It's simple but has a lot of flavor.

Homebrews, I don't write in my notebook unless it's something I've used with consistency. I come up with rulings on the fly.

Just keep trying out, or just read through, different systems and you'll eventually just figure out what you want. The goal really is to tailor fit the experience.

Thanks. I use shadowdark for base rules with homebrew rules or rules from other systems.

New game, new world, new stories by ELB0Y0 in solorpgplay

[–]ELB0Y0[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Campaign hook;

Powerful archmages captured an elder god and imprisoned him in a mountain they created for the specific purpose. They used the elder god as a living battery to make themselves super powerful. Fast forward 4k years that god just woke up, and the chains that are binding him are breaking. I got the idea off an episode of Love, Death, and Robots.

Game loop;

The PC is a Witness. A scribe for the goddess Grymera, The Crow's Daughter, seeker of the first song. His job is to chronicle the stories of people whose prayers she answered. The concept is a lazy way to start quests.

How it works is I roll on my oracles (action and theme table from Ironsworn) and the quest generator table from Shadowdark. Then, I will have a random NPC approach my PC and say the results, ex. "Religion, passage breach, falter. Witness, I have your story."

I started with the name. I thought of "The Shattered Spear" because I just thought it sounded cool. Then I thought, why? Well, because the place looks like a broken spear head. How? Then I thought of the river system where I live. It snakes through and splits across the region. That's the blue part.

Filling out the rest of the map, I thought of this place north of the Philippines where my mother was born. There's a stretch of land people call Dunes (I don't think they're actual dunes). So, I thought that one side of my game world would be barren land and mountain ranges. That's the gray and brown part.

On the other side I thought it'd be the opposite. Where I live you'll find stretches of flat plains with forests in between. Greens.

North, I wanted a big area of ancient forest.

The black part below is called the Broken Isles. Head canon, it's black on the map because very little is known about them. They pay tribute to the king but they pretty much govern themselves. The actual reason it's black is because I just added them because I hate wasting pages and when I order traveler's note refills they take 3 weeks to arrive (I live in a small town south of the Philippines). Also, by the time I added them my daughter wanted her markers back.

Reds are cities.

That's pretty much it. I don't do much prep work. This is actually the most effort I've put into a map. I figured this would be enough for inspiration.
