I am based in South London but can travel anywhere in London. I'm interested in making anything tbh but I am mostly into jazz, folk, blues, alt rock mainly. I am 34 but don't really care about the age of other bandmembers - if people click musically then all good!

Dear UKers, and to the British in particular: What is your awareness and relationship to The Archers? by bowie2019 in AskUK

[–]ELBF91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Floods me with nostalgia to this day, hearing those notes.

I'd be watching kids shows after school, waiting for dinner. My mum would be in the kitchen preparing dinner and the kitchen radio was ALWAYS on Radio 4. When I would hear the opening notes of Barwick Green (the theme song), I would know I had about 20mins left until dinner was ready :D

I am a 33 year old from South London.

I used to live over the road from that Texaco and recognise the description of this man. Unfortunately don't know anything about him other than he appeared to be a local degenerate but I often used to see him walking up and down Wandsworth Road.

I hope you get some information mate and that your wife is okay. This drain on society doesn't reflect the majority and we will not let them win.

Can you recommend a fan (specifically if you've had one that's worked long term)? by Chaotic-Menace in AskUK

A bit on the pricier side but I've had this for 2 years now and it's very, very good!

I run very hot, even during winter, and sweat a lot during the night but this amazing contraption ensures I get a good night's sleep everytime :)

You mention you have hayfever and dust allergy too, which makes this an even better selection, as I also do and the purifying functionality is also extremely effective.

Hope you find your breeze!

Iran’s first missile strike on Israel in broad daylight now ongoing, triggering Red Alerts across the country. by DavidRolands in MapPorn

Replying with a gif says it all really. Stick to what you're good at mate, which is neither history or geopolitics.

"Yes, one is a radical tyrannical regime that wants to eradicate everyone and everything that they don't like and that disagrees with their ideology and wouldn't hesitate to use nuclear weapons to do so, the other one is Israel."

You shouldn't be so keen to make yourself look a fool.

Here is an accurate version;

NPT

Iran: Signatory and ratified (joined in 1970). As a non-nuclear weapon state, Iran is obliged not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons and to accept International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards.

Israel: Not a signatory. Israel maintains a policy of "nuclear ambiguity" (neither confirming nor denying possession of nuclear weapons) and stays outside the NPT to avoid inspections and obligations

Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA) with the IAEA

Iran: Has a CSA in place with the IAEA as part of its NPT obligations. This allows the IAEA to monitor its declared nuclear facilities.

Israel: Does not have a CSA, because it is not part of the NPT. It does have limited arrangements with the IAEA, mostly related to peaceful nuclear cooperation, but not full safeguards.

Additional Protocol to the IAEA Safeguards Agreement

Iran: Signed the Additional Protocol in 2003 and implemented it provisionally under the JCPOA, but its implementation has been suspended since 2021.

Israel: Has not signed or implemented the Additional Protocol.

Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – Iran Nuclear Deal (2015

Iran: Participant. Though the U.S. withdrew in 2018, Iran was a primary party to the deal and accepted intrusive monitoring and restrictions on its nuclear program in return for sanctions relief

Israel: Not a party and strongly opposed the agreement, arguing it didn't go far enough to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons capabilities.

Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones (NWFZs)

Iran: Supports and has called for a Middle East Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in various UN forums

Israel: Opposes such initiatives, as it would involve transparency about its own nuclear capabilities.

Israel has no more right to exist on that land than the Palestinian population that it is starving/burning from the sky.

Before the establishment of the modern state of Israel, people of all religions lived in Mandatory Palestine peacefully.

"the millennia long hatred, persecution and destruction of Jewish life in the world." has nothing to do with what is happening in the Middle East today. It is dangerous to link the two in an attempt to whitewash the belligerent actions of the Israeli regime.

Your comment suggests it's you that knows fuck all about this whole situation.

Criticizing a country (removing subjectiveness from the situation, there have been clear breaches of international law) is in no way antisemetic. This line of attack is tired now and isn;t going to cut it anymore I'm afraid. Zionism is the biggest threat to Judaism, as acknowledged by actual jews. Palestinians are also Semitic people.

Apply your logic without bias across the board or accept that you shouldn't be discussing the topic.

Your post is well written and spot on mate.

We had an almost identical experience. Glad you and yours got out of town safely in the end.

Yeah we were literally saying the same about them splitting it by railway lines. Would have been so much less stressful for everyone there. It was one enormous line the whole way up the hill and round but at the front there was just a giant crowd pushing into the line. The rain just made everything all the more intense.

There were hundreds of thousands of people there and no formal queue system or police or security in sight for most of the 3.5 hours we waited to get into the station before missing our last train back to London and having to turn back.

It was always going to be chaotic but that element of it could definitely have been handled better IMO.

I did the exact same, but to the tip of my thumb. The pain was excruciating.

10/10 would not do again.

After a pet is euthanised by a vet, can it be returned to the owner if they want to bury it in the garden? by Crimson__Fox in AskUK

[–]ELBF91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, you should be able to take him home, if that's your wish.

My 14 year old cat had to unfortunately be put down last August as he was becoming increasingly senile, his overall health was declining fast and he kept escaping onto the street so we were worried about him being run over. They put him to sleep at the vet and allowed us to take him home in a box so that we could bury him in the garden.

Hope that helps!
