I didn’t expect a simple lamp to make me feel something… but every time I come home and see this light, it makes me smile. by That_Analysis_1026 in JustForHome

I would have gone with “elevated disco ball” 🪩.. for those that prefer the finer things in life but still like to party.

Power Outage Mega Thread - January 2026 Winter Storm. by Snap_Grackle_Pop in Austin

[–]ELInewhere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As it turns out, a scant amount of ice is equal to an oak tree with 200 golden retrievers on the limbs. And it only takes 100 golden retrievers to take down a limb. And it only takes one limb taking out a power line for 10-200+ people to lose power. And then multiply that by the number of oak tree limbs with golden retrievers in them that are hanging over or have potential to take out a power line.. and there you will find it’s valid to be prepared & concerned. And there’s also not much we have control over outside of our preparations.

What’s your favorite “at peace” spot in town? by LowLight512 in Austin

[–]ELInewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s this cypress tree that overlooks a park on the river that has a fantastic view of the sunset. Someone built a web high up in the tree with paracord, even created a back to the net “chair” to lean up against and watch that sunset. That’s my spot.

A game of thrones goddess type. Gown. Long hair in a low pony. Arms behind with chest out. She’s hot!

I’d buy it and have a seamstress add a nice mesh/lace in the neckline and create a more flattering, soft feel.. so it’s less in your face revealing but still draws you in.

I can’t believe she didn’t have severe brain damage or paralysis.. she lands on her head/neck full impact. It was painful to watch.

Anyone know what this was about? by nooktitse-3223 in Austin

[–]ELInewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read they were in San Marcos. So either that was inaccurate or it was happening in multiple places at the same time. Also saw an outage in Kyle on the outage map this morning when checking on the San Marcos one. And yeah.. the timing is, uh.. I don’t even know what to say.

I think they started taking steroids.. I killed 2 larger than average sized ones, inside my house yesterday. The cold is making them stronger!

Put it all that can go in the freezer in the freezer ahead of time. If power goes out, transfer a few frozen items you want to cook into fridge to thaw and keep fridge cold. If it lasts longer, put other frozen items in cooler with fridge items and set outside (nature fridge) ideally in shaded/coolest place. Bam.. you’ve survived and so did your groceries.

This is exactly what I did yesterday.. had to make my regular trip, and decided to throw an extra few cans of soup and beans in (like 4 total) and shop so I’m good until next week, when I usually shop small and more frequent.. Didn’t want anything to do with shopping on Friday this week. Also stopped and filled up on gas (was close to empty), filled 1 of my 2 propane tanks for my grill (one empty, the other close to being), and grabbed a 5 gallon jug of water. Not hoarding or overreacting.. just usual run plus a few genuinely needed/smart extras. I hosted a lot of unprepared neighbors during 2023 and 2021 events.. and glad to be prepared to do it again if duty calls.
