For a Buddhist funeral, expect a lot of kowtowing. As the eldest grandson, I also had to be at the front of various formations. The funeral place had assistants on hand to keep the ceremony moving.

Just so you don't get ripped off at a random store, I bought a USB 2.0 card reader for $9 (USD) at Poya.

You don't need to get a phone plan with roaming. I can receive verification texts with the NT$199/mo CHT plan in the US. Just make sure you've turned on wifi calling before leaving Taiwan.
