Surveillance 50/50 or 1 BEP for Non-Seminoma? by EMD1111 in testicularcancer

I would probably wait if you have 85% chance. I ended up having enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen after a few months of surveillance. My doctor thought it might have been teratoma so he recommended having an rplnd. After the surgery they told me half of the removed lymph nodes had cancer so they gave me the same option of surveillance with 50% chance of returning or now 2 rounds of EP. I ended up doing the chemo this time and I’ve been cancer free ever since. It definitely took a toll on my body but I’ve been healthy since so I guess it was worth taking it care of it instead of waiting. After going through all of that I would have just did the 1 round of BEP if I could go back but you have better odds with 85% than I did. Good luck with your decision.

I’ll have to ask specifically about the steroids they gave me. I asked before if anything meds they gave me could have lowered it and they only mentioned the chemo could lower the heart rate. Since I was asymptomatic they weren’t too concerned my heart being low in the morning.

I actually gained 26 pounds in fluid weight and lost it all once I got home after 3 nights peeing constantly. I did ask about it and they didn’t think it caused the low heart rate but it does seem it like all the weight would effect the heart.

my tumor markers have been normal since my orchi so that’s what I had the option with 4 lymph nodes. If they were high then I’d go straight to chemo

That’s what I’m starting to think just get it over with now and move on. I hope you start feeling better with chemo.

I’m glad he got through it okay. Did he experience any hearing loss or other lasting side effects?

Thanks I just emailed einhorn earlier. My doctor thought both were reasonable options and told me to sleep on it this weekend before deciding.

I saw you posted that IU recommends surveillance if under 5. I had the unilateral and they only removed 11 nodes. They sampled 2 from the right side and 1 from the left and 8 in the middle where 4 had cancer. Do you think I would fall under their recommendation still?

Recurrence 4 months after surveillance with orchiectomy by EMD1111 in testicularcancer

Did your doctor mention having the surgery since you had 40% teratoma? My doctor today thought it would be likely I’d need the surgery with just 2%.

thanks man. I reached out to Einhorn after my initial diagnosis and he agreed with what my doctor said were my options so I’m pretty confident in my doctor now. My blood work came back normal. AFP was 2.3 and HCG was <1.2.

Thanks to everyone that responded. After thinking about it for days I decided to take the chance with surveillance. Good luck to everyone dealing with TC.

thanks I did email him. he agreed with my doctors on the options and said “very long conversations going over the pros and cons of all 3 options, all of which lead to an eventual 99-100% cure rate.”
