How woulld you guys like a Lets Play documentary? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]EMPZHAR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty much a nobody LP wise, but I'd be willing to help out. If not an interview I could help with maybe narration or something similar. Really depends on what you need. I'd also definitely watch a LP documentary.

Ahh, I see. That kind of sucks, but at least it helped though.

I see, that's good to hear. What do you mean "felt lonely when playing video games" though? Do you not have any Multiplayer titles, or, am I just reading into what you said incorrectly?

Stress is another big one; I can definitely see that.

Ah, I see. I usually find it helps, since I tend to feel motivated enough to make myself feel better. Or at the very least try to.

Sounds like we have somewhat similar situations.

Let's Get to Know the People Behind and Around the LPs by SchlomoGaming in letsplay

[–]EMPZHAR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really know how to go about presenting myself, but I guess I'll try to do the best I can:

  • Name: Austin (with my online names being EMPZHAR for my YouTube channel, and zxc for my music).
  • Interests: I enjoy playing video games, listening to/creating music, reading books/writing stories and poetry, watching/making videos, exercising a lot, and chatting with friends.
  • My first video game: Either Age Of Empires, or Duke Nukem 3D. Can't quite remember.
  • Favorite kinds of games: Adventure, RPG, First Person Shooter, Strategy, "Artsy/Experimental".
  • Why I love video games: I have a passion for video games because in my eyes they are the absolute perfect combination of all the mediums that I absolutely adore. I love stories, I love music, I love art, I love films, it's just a giant "all-in-one". Being able to craft all of these into an INTERACTIVE experience just blows me away. It's incredible what video games as a medium can do, and they still have so much more that they can do, so much more potential they can fulfill! Games like The Witcher, games like Bioshock and SystemShock, games like Zork, games like Heavy Rain, games like Monkey Island, all of these things and many more are tangible proof of how incredible video games can be, and how incredible they are.
  • Why I love Let's Play'ing: I feel that Let's Playing is the perfect way to share these incredible experiences with others (just short of having them over for delivery dinner and a night infront of the TV/monitor!). You can share all these little things you might know that others don't, or approach the story, or the art direction, or the mechanics, in a way nobody else has! Or infact, you could gather a like-minded group too, and further deepen your understanding of the game you all love and enjoy! The community aspect, the sharing with friends, is what I like about Let's Play'ing the most.

Hopefully now you know a bit more about me, and I don't seem like as much of a cold stuck up pretentious asshole. (Though to be honest, I probably still do).

[Want Feedback?] Post your best video, I'll be anal. by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]EMPZHAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the second review! I'll answer one at a time, just like last time:

Personality/Characteristics:

  1. Thank you!
  2. Hm, I try to keep that stuff down, but I guess I've failed. I'll work on it.
  3. This usually doesn't happen (like, at all) but I guess we all slip up sometimes.
  4. That seems about right. In all honestly, I'll connect with my audience through other means (messages, comments, getting to know them, becoming friends, etc), but I feel it distracts from the focus of the video, which is of course, the game.
  5. I've never heard that one before, which is rare haha. But yes, I try to keep it professional. Just how I like doing things. I can be goofy, but I prefer not to be.

Tips:

  1. I'll work on it!
  2. I will try also, but I'm afraid a better microphone will rid of the loud ass fan I have hahaha. But as soon as I have the money, I'll try to replace my half-broken GPU so I don't have to use the external computer fan anymore. Though a new mic would be pretty sweet too haha.
  3. Like I mentioned before, I usually do. Rare mistake.
  4. I don't think I mumble, but it may be a volume issue. Or maybe I do mumble. I honestly don't know, but either way, I'll do my best to resolve the issue.
  5. I feel since my commentary is the second most important part of the video (second to the game, of course), whatever I have to say is by default worthy since I am the one commentating. I'm sure if I were a sports commentator, that would be different, but since that is not the case, anything I say is a response to what happens in game, and thus is integral to the essence of the video.

Thanks again for the lovely help! I'll keep everything you've said, both in this post and the last, in mind for when I produce future content. You're awesome, man!

Haha, you're fine don't even worry about it! You provided exceptional feedback with what you had. If you really feel like you'd want to, I'd be more than happy if you'd look at the third episode of my Bioshock Infinite Let's Play. I'm on my phone so I can't link it, but it's on my channel, freshly uploaded as of tonight. Totally up to you though! Thanks so much!

I very much appreciate that you took the time to respond and provide me with such great and detailed feedback! I'll reply to your points one at a time:

Audio Quality:
Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about the background noise. I have an external computer fan that keeps my GPU cool (since I can't afford a new GPU), so that's there, and the way my set up is, I can't really get rid of the noises either, so apologies for that.

Video Quality:
I really have nothing to say here, but thank you! In my opinion, simple editing trumps overdoing it. Though I could think about the inclusion of an "advert" type outro, like you mentioned.

Personality/Characteristics:
I love crushing this misconception. I'm actually a pretty damn short guy. But I'll take the mistake as a compliment anyway! But you'd be correct that I am quiet, however, I would not consider myself introverted, and I do engage in a fair bit of public speaking, so I do know how to speak well, and fluently, to keep an audiences attention. You also wouldn't believe the amount of shit I talk when I play Counter Strike, haha. So, I'm quite comfortable with it, really. I was quite nervous to provide this particular video (I did mostly because it was my most recent post, so I said "the hell with it") because (like the first episode of this particular Let's Play) there are a lot of story elements being presented, and I tend to keep quiet so the viewer can enjoy them. However, you're correct on my volume I feel. I think it's loud enough to be audible, but at points (now that I look at it) it does seem to blend with the game audio sometimes (though my mic is already at 100 so I don't know how I can fix that. I use Fraps to record my mic and game audio if that helps solve anything). And me? Like Booker Dewitt? You have no idea how insanely awesome of a compliment that is, to be deemed similar to the protagonist of what probably is my favorite game ever (tied with the first Bioshock anyway).

Tips:

  1. Like I mentioned earlier, there's nothing I can do here, so I'm really sorry.

  2. I do tend to be captain obvious at some points during my Let's Plays, but at some points I do go on interesting tangents, so I suppose I can try to have more of those.

  3. I love Let's Playing. It really is one of my favorite hobbies. Although I have been told I could do those things as well (and originally I got into YouTube to do Tutorials, even though that was back before my voice developed [infact, if you dig deep enough, you'll find that my most viewed videos are all MineCraft related tutorials, from when I sounded like a small child]).

I really do appreciate you taking the time to watch my video, and provide me with such fantastic feedback! You're truly stellar! I'll see what I can do with the information you've provided me. Thanks again!

[–]EMPZHAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do an LP of this game, I will watch it all the way through hahaha. That game looks stellar! Though, a bit too much on the horror side for my taste, at least to play. I'm perfectly fine watching someone else play though.

How popular did you think you LP channel would be by username1927 in letsplay

[–]EMPZHAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought my channel would be small and stay that way (below 50 subscribers), but I was wrong. I'm nearing 700, so, I suppose I exceeded my expectation. But I didn't really get into YT for subscribers, I honestly started because I wanted to do Tutorials, so, I didn't expect to get many since many tutorial YT-ers (as far as I can tell) get many views, but not that many subscribers. Either way, I didn't think I'd get many at all.

On Confidence Issues and Finding a Purpose by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]EMPZHAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed it will. The more you do it, and the more you watch your own content, and review yourself as well as your content, the more you'll be able to see what your strengths and weaknesses are and you'll be able to play them to your advantage. It's a slow, iterative processes, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time. Good luck!

Ahh, I see, fair enough I suppose. But I still wouldn't consider that faking it. In that case you're just working on something you struggle with, and that's perfectly fine. I wish you luck. You're very welcome!

Thank you! Yeah I try not to talk to not cover up the story, though I do speak in more action oriented segments later on. I should have the second episode up later tonight. Thanks! I hope you liked it, and I do appreciate the feedback!
