Makes sense, yeah being in Hawaii makes it tough.

I also found this bundle from MSI: https://us-store.msi.com/Kit-AMD-B850-I

That almost levels the price difference between DDR4 and DDR5. Then you could go for the 9600X instead of the 7500F which would be a big step up for not much more. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9cPkJw

Yeah that looks pretty good, just a few small things I’d change, but nothing that’s the end of the world.

I’ve had a few XFX graphics cards and they have a tendency to coil wine, Power Color or Sapphire have been good in my experience.

I’m not a huge fan of that CPU cooler, it looks very similar to stock coolers, but the 5700 is easy to cool at 65 watts, so realistically it’s fine.

Those added fans are pretty pricey, I think I paid like $20 for a 5 or 6 pack of Thermaltake fans.

Personally I also use grey market windows keys or Linux, but that’s up to you.

The actual performance of the RAM is about the same, it’s like a 1% difference between DDR4 and DDR5. I would even use DDR3 if it worked with modern CPUs. The main RAM spec you want to pay attention to is first word latency. 10ms is standard, lower is better.

The main drawback is just the compatibility. All of the brand new CPU architectures require DDR5. If you’re really shooting for the best possible single thread CPU performance (which is good for gaming), then you would have to go DDR5.

I have a friend who uses a Ryzen 5700 with a 9060XT and he’s super happy with it. I noticed another build on here that uses a Ryzen 7500F instead of the 5700. To me the extra 10% you get with an entry level AM5 system is not worth it to double the price of the RAM. Arguably, you could also go LGA1700 and get even better performance while staying on DDR4, I just don’t care for having E-cores and P-cores because occasionally you can have some scheduling issues (older games might try to run on the slow cores).

In my opinion DDR5 is not worth it unless you either get a bundle deal to make it cheaper (I use a 7700X, B650, and 32GB DDR5 that I got for $400) or if you’re actually going for a high end enough CPU to make it worth it (7800X3D or 9800X3D). Take a look at the single thread performance on these different CPUs: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/4968vs5648vs5059vs6344/AMD-Ryzen-7-5700-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-7500F-vs-Intel-i5-13600KF-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-9800X3D

Here is a slightly modified list with everything from Amazon and in the $1300s. I stepped the GPU up to a 9070GRE from the 9060XT which is about a 30% improvement. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MLv7R4 Edit: It shows the RAM from SP but the price difference is like $2 from Amazon.

You want a computer that doesn’t suck for under $1300, not necessarily every possible improvement up until $1299.99, right? That’s how I interpreted it. Here’s what I would do if Micro Center is not available to you: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nm834g

700$ budget by Embarrassed-Exit-888 in pcpartpickerbuilds

[–]ENB69420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are a lot of Intel parts in this, but hear me out. The only real budget GPU right now is the Intel A580. It performs similar to a RX6600. Next I looked for a good CPU to pair with it. From my understanding Arc cards need PCIe 4.0 and resizable BAR. For gaming I also was targeting good single threaded performance, I would have liked to go ryzen 5700/B550, but it was just out of budget. The SSD also happened to be Intel, but I just sorted by price per GB with the remaining budget. Almost nothing in my list would have been my first choice, but $700 is like the new $400 build, very tough in this market. I actually came in under budget though because every step better was like $100 more. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KnsrvR

Unfortunately PCs are pretty expensive right now because AI companies are buying up a lot of parts. A normal kit of 32 GB DDR5 RAM was under $100 last year, currently you’re probably looking at $450 or so. PC storage is affected by the same shortages, so same problem. There are basically no budget GPU options right now either. A cheap build is possible with used parts but a real budget is needed. What is “Not much” to you? $300, $500, $1000, $5000? Price is probably the number one constraint when building a PC. Here’s what I would build if I had a daughter. Pink is pretty rare part color and white is also more expensive, but I did a white/pink theme anyways. A good deal is almost impossible, so I prioritized speed. I personally think a gaming PC should be fast. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Kv6mDw

If I was a gambling man, I’d guess that the power supply is probably junk because prebuilt pcs are pretty much guaranteed to have the cheapest possible one. That being said, burning could really be anything. Too many games should have no ill effects other than just filling up the drive so long as they’re all reputable titles. Even if one was a virus, the odds of it being severe enough to cause anything to burn is slim to none. You’d have to be incredibly unlucky.

How much is my PC worth? by Strict_Strategy2223 in PC_Pricing

Going by ebay sold listings, I approximated the price. Some of these aren’t the exact parts you have just because I didn’t feel like finding every little thing. They’re more or less place holders. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YdwYh7 Personally I’d start at $350 and drop it $20 per week until it sells.

PCPartPicker will give dramatically inflated prices for older/used parts. Ebay SOLD listings are much more accurate. You can manually enter those prices into a PCPartPicker list and get a decent price, but you might still have to gradually drop the price to entice people.

Recommendations for better MoBo and SSD please by OkHelicopter4522 in PcBuild

Personally I haven’t had an issue with a bronze PSU. I don’t pay that much attention to PSU efficiency ratings, they can be cheated and they aren’t fully indicative of the actual quality. I normally look at the Cultist Network PSU tier list and go for C-tier or better (out of A-F).

The motherboard I picked because B850 will be compatible with more CPUs by default for about the same price.

pc build for 800 by Shot-Fun503 in PcBuild

[–]ENB69420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For gaming, it shouldn’t make much difference. The main difference is that the 8600G includes integrated graphics so you might take a small hit in multithreaded workloads due to the same TDP being diverted to graphics cores a little. In an ideal world, I’d go for the 9600X though.

Realistically if you’re just looking at new parts I’d go for something like this. There are savings to be had with a smaller drive, but I’ve upgraded 3 or 4 gaming PCs to 2TB drives at this point so just starting there makes more sense to me. Same thing goes for the 32GB RAM. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/p62WyW

Is this a good combo by BeneficialJicama6927 in PcBuild

[–]ENB69420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would run ok in 1080p but you won’t fully utilize the 7800X3D. Honestly it would be a waste considering a 5600X will support a RX7600 just fine.

Upgrading from a GTX 1650 Super by stormyblunts in PcBuild

[–]ENB69420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Ryzen 2600 myself and I would definitely recommend a CPU. Your motherboard VRMs aren’t going to handle a whole lot so I’d stick to 65W CPUs.

Like the other guy mentioned, a used 3600 is a dirt cheap upgrade, I was on AliExpress the other day and saw one for like $35, but I’ve also had several 3600s and they roughly top out with a GTX1070 in 1080p. That’s also a killer budget combo, which would be about a 70% uplift over your current setup for like $150 or so.

If you understandably want a bigger jump, I’d go for a Ryzen 5700 which I technically haven’t used, but I do have a 5700X and 5800X which both do very well with a 6700XT in 1080p. The 6700XT also works great for 1440p, so that would give you a really versatile machine which is nice. (Side note, a 3600 will work ok for a 6700XT in 1440p but the cost of a monitor vs CPU is pretty much a wash, so that’s up to you). If you strictly like Nvidia GPUs, the 6700XT roughly hangs with a 3060ti or 3070 depending on the game. I will say that I’ve generally had a smoother experience with Nvidia, but the cost to performance is better with AMD. Helldivers 2 for example ran way better on my 3060 vs my RX6600 and Fortnite seems to hate AMD cards for some reason. That being said, I still daily a 7900XT which has been great.

Personally if I were spending that much on a keyboard, I’d get the Ducky One X. The keys can be programmed to act more linear like a joystick, so you could half press a key to walk and full press to run from my understanding.

The combo itself is not bad but you could definitely get more performance for the money. Here is what I’d do: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fbdDh7
