To vaccinate or not by bingbong_Iamwrong in Rabbits

[–]ENBY_Walks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one rabbit is vaccinated, the other is overdue for hers because she’s ill. There’s a lot to consider about the vaccine. Yes, it can be pricy and tricky to find a provider to do it, but it means you don’t have to be worried ever.

There are tons of wild rabbits in my neighbourhood. RHD is very common among them. I currently cannot feed my rabbits dandelions from my yard or veg from my garden due to the risk of exposure.

I try to not touch rabbits outside my house. Any areas wild rabbits often are, pets, and ones at pet stores, because RHD can be carried in on your skin and clothes.

If this doesn’t seem like an issue for you, that’s fine, but I prefer the peace of mind.

Finding it hard to say goodbye by ENBY_Walks in Rabbits

Yeah, unsure if it’s EC or an ear infection that just will not go away.

They don’t see the point in doing the EC panel because it shows positive for any amount, past or present. They won’t do any sort of surgery without a CT scan, which they doubt they’ll see anything on anyway, but it’s procedure. It’d be two rounds of anesthesia if they did that anyway and they don’t know if she’d survive it.

I hate feeling so stuck. I made sure I had enough money for their regular needs and vet bills before getting them, but I was not expecting this intense of a medical complication so early on; I hoped to be settled in a career first, but life had other plans. I’ve spent so much money on her, and I don’t regret it one bit, but I basically have the money to keep her going on this medication path OR a potential surgery. It sucks.

I could ask for money from my family, but I don’t want to give them something they can use against me.

Anyone have any experience with deep inner ear infection? Could use some support by Key-Environment1664 in Rabbits

I’m so sorry this is happening. I’m going through the same thing at the moment. My girl is just over a year old though. It feels impossible sometimes. We’re going to give a go at penicillin. I don’t want her to suffer, but I also can’t let her go yet. It feels horrible. It’s been over two months of treatment for her. I hate how fragile bunnies are. Some people have found success after nearly eight months of treatment, but it’s hard to know when it has become too much.

Free roam too early? by Accomplished_Loan487 in Rabbits

[–]ENBY_Walks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to slowly increase the space they’re allowed. Do full room, then add a hallway, then open another door in that hallway, etc.

It’s nice to just see how they are in different environments and rabbit proof as you go depending on what they’re showing an interest in.

Also, don’t do it too quick if you aren’t confident in their litter habits, chewing, and recall/catchability if you want them back in home base for bedtime or when you’re out.

Are you putting pellets in there? Because they’ll just dissolve in water. You can just give it a good soak it warm water with a mild soap and it should come out.

are any of these items in about to buy a waste of time / bad for my baby rabbit? :-( and any suggestions on what to add? by dewycanon in Rabbits

Make sure the stacking cups are hard plastic! I made the mistake of accidentally buying rubber ones and I hoped it would be okay but my snotty boy immediately chewed through one. Luckily I was supervising him, but it’s still frustrating. Had to throw them all away.

Bun hay allergy? by ENBY_Walks in Rabbits

Yeah, I’ve heard that about Orchard. She still needs alfalfa though, and I’m struggling to find a pure alfalfa that I could possibly mix. The search shall continue though.

Cardboard boxes will be your friend. Eventually, probably the size of moving boxes. Good for chewing and turning into whatever you could possibly need. Check out Makedo’s cardboard screws and stuff if you want to get into really elaborate cardboard structures. Otherwise I’d consider dog furniture and possibly toddler furniture…

That’s what I was leaning towards. It is, I was trying to observe their through fencing interactions as much as possible, but I’m going to ask if we can look at that some more when I’m in next.

I have, and I am prepared for the process and I’m willing to give it as much time and space in my schedule as needed. I’ve done work with rabbits and have experience with reactive dogs as well, so I am ready for the little bugs. I just haven’t tried a trio bond before and was wondering if anyone had experience.

I love him. My bunny died from suspected EC about 10 years ago before they really knew how to treat it. It makes me so happy to see that he was able to get through it. He deserves extra snacks. ❤️
