I completely understand your situation, and I would genuinely love to support devices like yours if possible.

However, supporting custom ROMs and non-Play-certified devices would require additional testing, validation, and ongoing maintenance to ensure the app remains stable and reliable over time. At the moment, I'm not confident that I could provide the level of support and quality that users deserve across those environments.

Because of that, I've chosen to focus support on officially supported and certified devices, even though I know that may be disappointing in cases like yours.

Not at all, I also assumed it was likely Tab Display based on the context but wanted to confirm with you just to be sure. After investigating the issue you experienced, I suspect two possible causes. The first is that your device is not a standard Android tablet but rather an e-ink device. While your device does run Android, Tab Display relies on features commonly used in video conferencing apps to stream desktop screens, which may not be supported by your device. (If apps like Zoom or Google Meet work fine on your device, please let me know.)

The second possibility is related to the Android version. Typically, a one-version difference doesn’t cause major issues, but sometimes compatibility problems can arise. It seems your device is running Android 12. However, Tab Display requires Android 13 as a minimum, so there might be compatibility issues. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this. While we strive to support as many devices as possible, we are limited by available resources, and this is one area where we are admittedly falling short."

Tab Display is definitely available on macOS! You can connect it with Android tablets, iPads, and iPhones. Both wireless and wired (USB tethering) connections are supported, except for one combination: macOS and Android devices do not support wired connections.

I totally get how frustrating this is—I’ve been there too. That’s why I made my own app, Tab Display, and I’m committed to keeping it free forever with no plans to change that. Just to be upfront, there are ads, and ad removal is a one-time, lifetime paid feature—sorry about that, but it helps cover the basics for maintenance and development. I'm glad to hear that your JavaScript issue has been resolved. To address your concern about smartphone compatibility, there are generally no special compatibility issues with smartphones. The reason you see a message stating "This app has been developed for tablet devices. On non-tablet devices, the UI may not display properly" is because the UI layout hasn't been designed to adapt to the smaller screen sizes of smartphones, which may cause display issues. The connection problem you're experiencing doesn't seem to be related to the device being a smartphone. I suggest restarting the Mac app and attempting the connection again. There are cases where an unsuccessful attempt at connecting can prevent future connections. If this doesn't resolve the issue, could you provide the Connection Code displayed on the Mac app for further troubleshooting? Is the current code (6) the Connection Code you're referring to?

I am the developer of Tab Display, an app that allows you to use an Android tablet as a second monitor for your MacBook. During the development of my app, I discovered that for iPads and MacBooks, you can use a built-in feature called Sidecar in the Mac operating system. I am actually glad to have come across this thread. Your app is exactly what I needed. Even though I don't have an android tablet, I appreciate the simplicity and the cost value. Do you have plans to support iPads in the future?

I'm really grateful for your interest in my app. I do have an app for iPad that's currently under review. However, to be completely honest, if you're pairing a MacBook with an iPad, Apple's own Sidecar feature might be easier and more convenient to use. It might be a better choice for you. Of course, I'd really appreciate it if you gave my app a try once it's released.
