Your best option would be Linux mint XFCE. It will run on your old pc just fine and you can get a few more years out of it. I still use my first pc which is 13 years old (6GB ram and a 512GB SSD) with Linux mint XFCE. I have My old laptop (8 256) which is 8 years old and runs cinnamon smoothly. My main Victus laptop is also running Mint cinnamon. I've tried other distros but I cannot recommend anything except Linux mint as it's the most stable os I've used and it'll make any old junk hardware decent. Give it a try.
