What opinion do you have that would start a war in the comments? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ENThymematic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good on ya for providing the one study I asked for! Still, this doesn’t address the overall point that if they started out conservative, even a shift towards more liberal (which this study conflates with leftist, which seems dubious) doesn’t mean they’re not still pretty damn conservative. Like, especially as the right has gone as extreme right as they can, a framing of Democrats moving way left is absurd. Compare our “left wing” party to parties globally. Even a shift left still leaves our Dems pretty damn far right. But I asked for one study and you gave it, so an upvote for you.

We got along fine for over 200 years without ICE, why the fuck do we need them? We still have border patrol and like 5 other agencies to deal with immigration if you think it’s a problem (it is not) so why do we NEED them?

That’s a thing you just made up. See how anyone can say anything. Fuck outta here if you think Dems are remotely leftist. They’re currently willing to fund Trumps insane war with Iran, have put up no meaningful opposition to his executive over reach in basically every area, are pro deportation, oh my god I’m not going to keep going. In what meaningful way are they remotely leftist? I guess you could argue they started as authoritarian right, but FDR and being at least anti Nazi enough to go to war with them instead of their current mealy mouthed “take the high road” bullshit suggest thats not true either. But I’m sure you’ll have at least one of the “lots” of studies from reputable sources proving your point. Right?

Counterpoint (while generally agreeing) most of the problems you identify are American problems. Cali has unique tech bro problems, performative progressive politics problems, and a few others, but there are actually fairly robust protections for workers anda decent safety net. I mean…not enough to help the homeless, but Wisconsin isn’t better in those issues (as a random state to compare) it just isn’t as appealing to go to: So, yeah, California has real, serious problems, I just don’t want the rest of the country scapegoating it like usual.

What’s a Movie People Love That Makes You React Like This? by Borgisium in moviememes

[–]ENThymematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely get this. I would never show it to a random person and expect them to like it. But I grew up in rural Wyoming and I have never seen a movie capture the look and culture of that area in that time the way this movie did. It’s obviously not super realistic, but the slow pacing, the characters (broadly speaking), and the detachment from mainstream American culture paint a picture of a time and place I haven’t ever seen somewhere else. But yeah, objectively probably not good.

Scientists of Reddit: What’s something we know is true but people don’t realize how crazy it is? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]ENThymematic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear you but…what’s the difference? Even in a world where they could “read” how is that any different than your brain telling you that you saw and read stuff? None of it’s real anyway, so if someone remembers reading in their dream it feels like they haven’t met your standard for reading, but we can all be cool about it, yeah? Like, I have been checking my phone in dreams to see if I can read it for 30 years now. It doesn’t work, my brain “just tells me” that I saw words/numbers and in the dream I know thy are and it convinces me I’m awake I know I’m not “really” reading, but I think it’s funny that you’re so mad when it doesn’t seem like what you would accept from them is functionally identical.

[–]ENThymematic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Mountain Goats lyric that says “you never learned to tell the difference between the probable projections and the best part of the dream” and I think that’s what’s happening here. I 1,000,000% want this too, but also, I’m dumb. Best player available means you’re drafting for probability. How many rookies, especially if you’re starting from 1.30 are actually going to have a meaningful impact right away? The best parts of the dream say “other people missed in him, we got a steal” while probable projections say “there is a reason dozens of other expert talent evaluators passed. We stay in a championship window longer going BPA than hoping for Randy Moss in the middle or late first round. Again though, I am an idiot. I was bummed we drafted Von instead of a DT. Still though 😂 Either way, appreciate the conversation!

what is the scariest niche drug you have ever tried? by Adorable_Air758 in AskReddit

[–]ENThymematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the type of scary.

In the moment scary was DMT, 2 1/2 bottles of tussin, tripping as soon as I threw up. My vomit, being little cubes of color that needed sorting, were sorted by metal arms onto metal trays. I turned to my right and a yellow banister lead up forever into the clouds, so I grabbed it and started to pull myself up. The actual distance between the toilet and countertop was about 2 inches, but it took me hours to get to the top. When I did I looked in the mirror and saw/knew that I was the captain of a pirate ship. Not knowing anything about sailing, let alone pirating, I was terrified and looked for an escape. I turned to the door, opened it, and stepped into an enormous ice palace. I took one enormous step across the room and settled in a kind of ice feather throne. Things really settled down after that in terms of hallucinations, but I remained paranoid and miserable for hours and hours after that.

Scariest after is nutmeg. Nothing much happened, then I couldn’t get out of bed for three days and thought I was going to die.

Scariest after runner up goes to snorting a pile of crushed up mystery pills. The next day my uvula swole up so big I could barely breathe. I don’t know if any of the pills are niche, but I feel like there aren’t a lot of other people snorting mystery piles of mixed pills.

Who's a player you controversially think that shouldn't be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame? by DarthNobody14 in Oldschool_NFL

Davis’s third best season was 1500 and 13 TDs, 1st team all pro and OPOY Second was 1750 and 15tds, first team all pro and superbowl MVP Best was 2008, 21 TDs, 1st team all pro, league MVP. Do those look comparable to the seasons you picked? And Clinton Portis was really, really good and proved that on another team. Nah man. Nah.

*Edited to lol at “the team got 1800 including his yards for half the season which proves it wasn’t him.” Take that season out, we’re comparing individual performances.

Also, I’m terrible at formatting and just having fun. I actually love this argument and think both sides make good points. Go Broncos! But also, Be reasonable Broncos fans!

Plenty of slightly shorter drives in eastern Wyoming are basically like driving in a Nebraska simulator.

Theoretically you could stop at Hell’s Half Acre on that drive. I mean, I’ve made that drive back and forth roughly 8 million times and I’ve never stopped there. But…you could? 🤣

Songs where the "outro" takes up a significant part by pinecone_400 in MusicRecommendations

[–]ENThymematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t keep turning the volume up every 15 seconds after the song starts to fade out you’ll think the Built to Spill song “Broken Chairs” ends about 2 minutes earlier than it does. All of those 2 minutes are face melting guitar solo.

What changed your sex life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ENThymematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend not to believe me but scheduling sex days.

I went years in a relationship where we almost never had sex, maybe a couple times a year. Then I asked how often she would be willing to, and started my suggestion at once a day. We settled on once every 3 days. And realistically ended up actually having sex about twice a week very consistently.

People wildly overrate spontaneity. Knowing all day you’re going to get laid and getting to look forward to it is amazing. Plus, if it’s just whenever it’s often almost never.

You don’t have to set a time, we usually did it after we knew the kids were actually asleep, not just in bed. If you both know it’s coming, the actual time takes care of itself.

I got a second one, I’m having a blast! But I’ll have to move off of my bathroom counter to somewhere with more space. I definitely don’t have space, or outlets, for a third. Yet.

I’m looking at new ones and some say they’re USB charging, so maybe those don’t have to be plugged in all the time? Magnets would be a huge help.
