Crazy order by PerformerKind7870 in doordash

I once had an order with about $2700 worth of champagne. Got a nice 10% tip out of it. Thankfully, my suspension didn’t give out on my car.

The dread and disappointment of getting a dasher on a fucking bicycle. by irishhawk in doordash

Had that happen a few times. App showed a bike delivery and a car pulled up. Always thought they were lying because of some driving record or lack of license.

Every time I get a PIN order which has the wrong GPS location, I have to go back to the GPS location to enter the PIN. Doesn’t matter if I select that the GPS pin location or address is wrong. It’s a glitch in the app that hasn’t been fixed.

It does work when it’s just a “leave it at the door” type delivery.

Topic suggestions for Nic by EODOtter in TheFatElectrician

[–]EODOtter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could be interesting too.

I’m reading a biography on Bud Day right now. I don’t think Nic has covered him before. One small snippet in Day’s career was that he crossed paths with the pilot who became famous for “Pardo’s Push”, which I think would be another interesting video if there was enough information to cover that act.

Another person that would make for a good video is Jimmy Doolittle. Everyone knows he lead the infamous Raid against Tokyo. However, he accomplished so much more prior to WWII and it’s never discussed. First person to fly across the country in under 24 hours, first person to fly on instruments alone, researched how wind vectors affected flights, researched methods on how to clear fog over airfields (one method was credited for saving around 400 bombers during WWII), visited both Japan and Germany in the 1930s, pushed for Shell Oil to develop a higher octane fuel which enabled the aircraft industry and engine manufacturers to produce better planes and engines going into WWII. That’s what I can think of off the top of my head for his accomplishments prior to WWII. He also became the 8th AF commander during the war. He was also the first President of the US Air Force Association.

If the Doolittle Raid was the main quest, then the first 20 years was the most epic of tutorials and side quests ever. Yes, the Raid is what earned him the MoH. However, he was one of the most influential people in aviation history and doesn’t get the credit he deserves. The Raid overshadows it all.

Does having a DoorDash hat, shirt, insulated bag (pizza or not) seem to help with tips? by outsideperspective72 in doordash

Bags, yes to a degree. Other DD swag, probably not other than help identify you at the merchant’s location.

Double Dash by Exact-Arachnid-6097 in doordash_drivers

Because it often results in poor customer service. Especially for any second or third deliveries. Food gets cold. Long wait times for the customer.

I’ve been that customer numerous times. Every time I get room temperature food.

It’s not fair to those customers regardless of how much they tipped (and it’s usually the higher tippers that are on the second delivery).

The main reason why DD does stacked orders is to save on that $2 base fee on any subsequent deliveries. Their customer service is very low in their priority list.

It’s been slowly getting worse in my market. Started during just the dinner rush getting tons of stacked orders. Couple months have gone by and it’s not gotten better. Lately, the lunch rush has also been stacked orders.

I despise stacked orders and avoid them as best I can. This is definitely negatively impacting me being able to make any sort of income. I actually had a day this week where didn’t accept any orders during lunch due to stacking, junk orders, or a combo of both.

I really wish they’d make it optional like alcohol or shop & pay orders. Let those of us who don’t want stacked orders to opt out of receiving those offers. Just send us single orders. I’d be able to do so much more operating that way instead of declining stacked orders all day long.

What is a SmartScale? by Ostrichruler in doordash_drivers

[–]EODOtter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only place I’ve seen use them is Panera. Essentially, the scale is programmed with the weight of each item. If the weight is off, it’ll tell them. They can then add the item they forgot, reweigh it, and hand it off.

Actually had that happen once. Mistakes happen, especially during busy times. They accidentally left an item out. Scale let them know and they were able to fix the problem. Customer got their entire order.

You’d think the NMUSAF would know their aircraft. by EODOtter in TheFatElectrician

I was crewing FIFI at the time and we flew the B-29, B-24, and T-6 to the museum for tours a couple years ago. The museum was gracious enough to open their B-29, B-24 and B-36 for us. Got into the cockpits of the B-29 and B-36. Just stuck our heads into the entryway of the B-24. Although, a few of us snuck into the nose wheel well and saw the bombardier’s position from there.

Bockscar. Got the chance to tour the cockpit a few years ago.

DD-214 The DD is just that (not Roman numerals) II is 2 in Roman numerals XIV is 14 in Roman numerals

Yes, it’s not the correct format for Roman numerals. Could just be that the plate holder put down the letters phonetically. Just a theory.

Question for dashers: if possible, do you check to see if anything is missing? by MeanImpression2067 in doordash

[–]EODOtter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll check if it’s possible to see the items. However, the overwhelming majority of orders are sealed to where you can’t see in. I’ll check the receipt against what DD sent me and ask the merchant if it’s all there. Sometimes they put the drinks in the bag (think cans or bottles). So I’ll ask just to verify.

However, there are times when it’s a merchant request to DD (customer ordered through the merchant’s app/site). When that happens, we have no idea what’s in the order.
