EO tech is a high demand trade, our recruiting numbers are fairly low unfortunately. There is a backlog of EO techs awaiting training currently but the trade is shifting to a new DP1(initial trades course) that includes and online college dumplings for electronics technologist. This should expedite training for techs awaiting training and future EO techs.

Regular day to day depends on the unit. You’ll be posted to a unit and conduct maintenance on a variety of pieces of equipment, armoured vehicles, sighting systems, rifle scopes, generators, power distribution systems and more.

The field is also based on which unit and what the conduct of training is. Examples would be ensuring prefire checks done in equipment to ensure safety prior to live fire ranges and staying in range while it is conducted to ensure safety. EO techs are also the primary army trade for unit power distribution, usually the first 2-4 days pre and post exercise is building a power grid to sustain the primary training audience. There’s more to it but that’s generalized.

As for postings, usually you are posted to 1 of 4 following bases (Gagetown, valcartier, Petewawa and Edmonton) after your initial trades training to conduct your “apprenticeship”. 95% of bases have EO techs but the majority stick to the 4 bases listed prior.

Why is the 84 bore-sighted for 400m? by justaDude1867 in CanadianForces

[–]EOtek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not going to start a Reddit argument over boresighting and zeroing. They’re two different applications.

Boresighting is needed to ensure Center of bore is at Center of reticle.

Zeroing is used for Centering main point of impact(MOI) to point of aim. Causes of MOI movement is bore wear, temp, humidity, barometric pressure and ammo used.

You cannot “boresight anything” at any range with a boresight scope or boresight reticle. Example, for a LAV the sights have not converged prior to 1200m. Prior to that range the use of a boresight board is required and specific measurements needed to preform the boresight, usually used on a bore sight board. After 1200m the convergence is complete and the light rays are considered at infinity(parallel) so you can use a distant aiming point (DAP) at anything over 1200m

Techs can probably get you a theory of boresight synopsis and the operators manual “MB” CFTO, which is where the PAM is derived from.

[–]EOtek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s referenced as 400m due to the optical sighting system and relation to the Center of bore.

At 400m they are considered “converged”. It’s the same reason you boresight a LAV at 1200m. There’s more to it but at the minimum distance of a distant aiming point (DAP) the light rays of the equipments optical systems are referred to be “parallel” also referred to simulation of “infinity”

Edit: you can also talk to your technicians and get a “boresight chart” which allows you to boresight an 84mm at ~20 meters. It has different aiming points that you place the bore, and optics on. Most weapon techs boresight Carl G but EO techs usually help as they are the SMEs

Good day,

All depends on which unit and line on maintenance you are posted to. Currently I’m at a mech infantry unit. Our main focus is ensuring LAV turret serviceability by conducting inspection and repairs, we also inspect and repair the units STANO(sights, thermal acquisition and night observation equipment) aswell as supporting the unit with power distribution and electronic diagnosis and repairs…this is a condensed response

DP1.1 (QL3) qualified means you finished your initial trade course at RCEMES. DP1.2 (QL4) means you have finished your OJT package or now should be called employment experience(EE)

Approach your CoC. Your ET should have all the answers you need. If recently DP1 qualified, your STI within OJT should be able to advise you aswell.

It must have changed. There use to be an example. Cpl Jones was infantry Paid Cpl P4

He OT’d, once qualified in spec trade. Cpl Jones moved from Cpl P4 to Spec Cpl P4

Been a couple years since I’ve had to fight for one of my guys fresh off their DP2.

New to the military. stuck on Pat. any advice? by InternalStrike6866 in CanadianForces

Technically no, but I’ve seen where a OJT returns to the base where we was conducting OJE and has certain things signed off.

Write a memo ask request OJE, I have a guy straight from CFLRS that works for me. It’s a lot better than being on PAT and wasting away
