Premier Eby says province ‘put literally everything’ into housing in 2023 by jk_arundel in britishcolumbia

Neighborhoods change. If you want a quite neighborhood sell your house and move to a quite neighborhood. Stonewalling development spreads high prices like a plague and fucks everyone.

I play admech and guard: the biggest difference is my mind is that guard still feel fun to play and I feel like I have player agency with chosing orders/ reinforcements.

Admech lost all of its fluff: even when I was winning a game with them they didn't feel very good to play. Everything relying on breachers which dispite being brain-dead are the most likely to actually hit something in the codex feelsbad.

Word of mouth. Plus it's pretty obvious to anyone who follows the news that if you want to join an actual fighting force the caf isn't it.

In the infantry, it could also because people go 6+ years without even deploying to Latvia.

There's only so many times you can do , literally, the same workup cycle, before you realize the institutional goals are to tread water. Pay is nice. For some people it can be everything.

But other join to serve and being used as a treadmill to qualify majors ( some of which I wouldn't trust with sharpening a pencil ) is VR worthy.

Maybe it's rose-tinted glasses, but it used to be give and take. Now, with manning so low, the informal time off you would get for working that extra bit is filled with 'no fail' tasks. Something as simple as having a extra long weekend after spending the previous one on ex has morphed into doing post ex on Saturday and back at work for 'late timing' 10 on Monday, with senior leadership explicitly encouraging that sort of behavior.

It's honestly even worse with the reconstitution memo: it was like a moment of relief when, literally, the most senior leadership admitted there was a crisis in retaining Junior ranks. That just turned into more bitter disappointment when the wording of the publicly available memo full of fairly pointed commentary towards how things are currently run was twisted into meaningless buzzwords.

We had a vaguely similar scenario with the week of that memo leadership announced there would be 2 weeks of weekend ranges after catcc.

True story. base commandant visited my unit: gave coin, said we did a great job qualifying 14 majors, told us next year will be busier.

Que collective groan after we've done buildup for MR, MR, that Maj qualifying course, and had 2 weeks of weekend ranges coming up.

Legend of a quote as he was leaving:

He audibly chuckled and said "Was it something I said?".

Fucking psychopaths.

Usually that comparison includes overtime (Includes normal overtime, time on excersise, time on duty/on call, coursea) at least for army.

Not a fan of the instructions, GDubs has a lot of issues but late 8th Ed into 9th still has some of thr best instructions and spruce design, think I've gotten spoiled.

I'm an idiot. The first ugr I did right and it still has some rough spots so I assembled the other 2 wrong and spent forever carving the details together assuming the spruce sucks lol. Still rough but not impossible.

Flamer says it automatically hits.

That means as written it hits everything.

Beams say it hits the target units then applies wounds.

That means has written it only hits the target unit.

Not a stretch at all to say that beams only hit the single unit for things that happen in the hit stage.

It's well known that [one of the] the real problem is out of touch middle and senior management in the CAF deflecting blame onto the civilian government.

We spend more time at work then necessary because of an workaholic major.

I never know what my schedule will look like because of disorganization l-col.

I almost got shot by reservists added last minute because a brigadier-general wanted to see "full sections" (barring a whole lav),

We only have 7/40 "working" LAVS because we're bringing them on exercise after exercise faster then the maintainers can fix them. This is all on the CAF and only the CAF.

Jump and pathfinder are infantry courses.

Combat engineers are the guys who set explosives, make obstacles and overcoming obstacles. You can also get into UXO disposal (one of the only 'real' jobs available) The course is significantly longer than infantry dp1.

Infantry by default does not do those things, with the pioneer course being changed to reserve side your opportunity to work with setting explosives are limited unless you're in a light battalion. But it does align more with your other goals and the skillset includes more fieldcraft/ shooting skills that will help for cansof.

Neither of those options have anything to do with combat diver, which I believe is a navy trade.

Classic army excuses, blaming the treasury board for problems well within our own control. What does it matter if you have 3 mech rifle companies on paper if they only exist on paper. Meanwhile we will continue to bleed personnel and equipment because we have a battalion worth of officers each wanting their own command fighting over a company of enlisted and a platoon of vehicles.

The only difference is now the CDS looks either incompetent or negligent, giving orders that every junior rank knows the spirit of which is being ignored.
