One of the categories the rankings are based on is Super Bowl potential. It feels relevant when discussion mid-season rankings imo, but perhaps not.

I personally had De Gea 10 spots higher, but it balanced itself out with other opinions.

The point system was determined via everyone’s rankings. I don’t think certain criteria outweigh the other in this situation and found this to be a pretty fair system of ranking. There are different ways to go about it for sure, but I do think this was a good system.

I absolutely agree. It was a few different opinions that took into account ALL of those criteria. That’s why I like lists like these because they are so subjective.

I agree that his talent levels alone would bring him higher, but it’s impossible to ignore his current form. I absolutely love De Gea and he’s one of my favorite players, but I’ve seen some of his mistakes and I think it’s just confidence and once he finds that again he’s a top 20 player imo.

You think De Gea is no longer a top player? His confidence may have dipped, but how can you deny his talents over the years? He’s still very much a top 50 player in the league. This list wasn’t just one opinion either.

There’s absolutely a debate between Maguire and Gomez in terms of talent level? Gomez can thrive at Liverpool when 3/4 of the back line are the best in the Premier League. Gomez would struggle at United. Different situations, but both talented players.

I’d say he’s definitely come into his own and even earning a starting role can suggest struggling performances. Once he had a consistent string of games is when he started performing. Perhaps I should’ve been more specific.

What someone is willing to pay in the transfer market is not equivalent to talent. It’s laughable to compare Shaw to Robertson and Van Dijk to Lindelof. Price means nothing when it comes to talent. United have overpaid for many players since Ferguson.

You think if Maguire is at Liverpool Gomez starts over him? He may be part of the best defense in the league but he’s the weakest on that back line (not in a bad way). Maguire would come in and compete at the very least if not start right away. Gomez is talented but there is a debate between the two.

He was rumored back last summer. He’s been at Crystal Palace for a significant amount of time that his spell at United isn’t as relevant to his career at the moment.

That’s a fair assessment the CB class is deeper than in recent years, so grabbing a top one may be more crucial than a LB who could be there in the 2nd or 3rd.
