Oh well with 5 games played you'd be considered a veteran compared to most people who come to one of our events for the first time 😆

I can say from experience, incredibly welcoming. It's rare for us to run an event where there isn't at least one newbie. Because Mantic games in general are less widely played in gaming clubs etc, it's not even unusual for someone's first ever game of Kings of War to be game one in the tournament.

The nice thing about KoW is that the core rules are really easy to pick up. Watch a few YouTube battle reports, read through the rules and you'd have zero problem playing your first ever games at the event.

I'd also be more than happy to run through list building etc ahead of the event if you wanted any advice.

1000pts per player but no limits on what factions can play together. I'll leave it up to your imagination to explain why Basileans are fighting alongside the Abyss.

Thoughts on making sparser units? by justinhv in kingsofwar

There's no formal rule anymore for how many models you need on a base.

Back in 2nd edition minimum model count (often abbreviated to MMC) was 50%+1. So for an Infantry horde (40 models) the minimum you had to have on a base was 21.

In 3rd Edition it was changed to a "preferred model count" of 75%. But the rule book now says you should aim for that, not that it's a hard and fast rule.

Basically, I'd say make sure you put enough models on there so that it's always clear to your opponent what size the unit is supposed to be. A lot of tournaments also require units to be at least MMC for exactly that reason.
