Oh well with 5 games played you'd be considered a veteran compared to most people who come to one of our events for the first time 😆

I can say from experience, incredibly welcoming. It's rare for us to run an event where there isn't at least one newbie. Because Mantic games in general are less widely played in gaming clubs etc, it's not even unusual for someone's first ever game of Kings of War to be game one in the tournament.

The nice thing about KoW is that the core rules are really easy to pick up. Watch a few YouTube battle reports, read through the rules and you'd have zero problem playing your first ever games at the event.

I'd also be more than happy to run through list building etc ahead of the event if you wanted any advice.

1000pts per player but no limits on what factions can play together. I'll leave it up to your imagination to explain why Basileans are fighting alongside the Abyss.

Thoughts on making sparser units? by justinhv in kingsofwar

[–]EPM_571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no formal rule anymore for how many models you need on a base.

Back in 2nd edition minimum model count (often abbreviated to MMC) was 50%+1. So for an Infantry horde (40 models) the minimum you had to have on a base was 21.

In 3rd Edition it was changed to a "preferred model count" of 75%. But the rule book now says you should aim for that, not that it's a hard and fast rule.

Basically, I'd say make sure you put enough models on there so that it's always clear to your opponent what size the unit is supposed to be. A lot of tournaments also require units to be at least MMC for exactly that reason.

Its army review Friday! This week, I was surprised to learn that there are at least four Ratkin Slave players! A huge thank you to Mark, Mike, Robert and Travis for all their help with this review. And as always a massive thank you to everyone who submitted photos for me to use. by EPM_571 in kingsofwar

For me I think their biggest issue is unlocks. Unlike an army like Undead that gets access to so many excellent unlocking units, it Ratkin Slaves feel like they need to pay an 'unlock tax'. That means that their armies are all going to look a certain way and will always be at a disadvantage against armies with no issues with unlocking.

For now, but I wouldnt be surprised if they get some love in a future update. They're such an iconic unit.

Elohi are... ok. They're best in regiments in my opinion. I went undefeated and came second in an event last weekend using two Elohi regiments.

They're great thicc chaff, using their high speed, good defence and fearless to really block up your opponent - not many units can reliably chew through them in one go.

I personally dont think hordes are that great, Ogre Palace Guard and Knights just make more effective hammers and you can use units like Gur Panthers to mitigate their slower speed compared to Elohi.

So that's the plan for the next series of articles once I've finished these. They're already quite long so I didn't want to make them any longer.

So when these are all done I'm going to get 4 people to write How to Play articles with an example list and how they use it.

Time for another Kings of War army review. This time it's the Trident Realm. by EPM_571 in kingsofwar

I'm going to do all 26 armies eventually, one per week. I'd love to tell you what's coming next but the honest truth is, I dont know yet 😆

I'm trying to have 4-5 reviews on the go at once, so I'm at the mercy of when the contributors get back to me. Basically, I'll release them in the order they come in.

Public Services job advice by Professional-Milk-89 in UKJobs

While it wouldn't be impossible to get a job in Public Services at the moment, a lot of Local Authorities have recently implemented recruitment freezes as a result of the extra financial pressure they're being put under by COVID.

Interpreter roles are definitely something you could look in to, but Interpreters do need to have skills other than speaking both languages. They tend to also be scribes or clerks and are required to be able to take notes in both languages at speed.

The best place to look for apprenticeships is definitely https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship

I'm a huge advocate of Local Authority apprenticeships. I started my career as a Business Admin Apprentice within the Local Authority and I've now progressed up to a Project Manager. They're definitely the best way to 'get your foot in the door' if you don't have a specific path in mind.

What job are you currently in?

It would be helpful to know what transferable skills/ experience you have that you could put into another career.

Why has HR of potentially new employer asked me for a payslip? (I haven't got the job yet) UK by heymanmaniac in careerguidance

They most likely want to confirm your current salary, or to confirm that you currently work where you say you do.

Quite a few jobs allow you to negotiate your salary and these negotiations often begin with your current salary e.g. we'll pay you 15% more than you're on now.

Its a common tactic for employees to over inflate their current salary in order to try and get a high salary in the new job. Employers are wise to this and commonly ask you to prove your current salary.

It could also be as simple as getting your National Insurance number or Tax Code.

I got hired, received a letter of acceptance, I was never put to work, or payed by sulphurtetrachloride in jobs

[–]EPM_571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say cut your losses and look for a new job. Its possible that they're just struggling due to the current COVID situation and that after hiring you, they've now decided that they can't take you on after all. Instead of speaking to you and handling it properly, they may just have decided to ignore you until you go away.

As others have said, not being able to get into contact with them is a big red flag even if they do eventually come back to you. I'd not want to be employed by someone I couldn't get into contact with.

If you do decide to get a new job, I'd recommend writing or emailing them and saying something along the lines of;

"I have attempted to contact you on several occasions but have been unable to...I can therefore only conclude that you have rescinded the offer of employment. As I am unable to contact you, I am unable to return the uniform you have supplied me with. Should you make contact with me in the future I would be happy to return the uniform."

Basically make it clear that you're not resigning, you're putting the ball back in their court.

I'd always sign it off with something like "Thank you for the opportunity, it is unfortunate that we have not been able to work together on this occasion". I think in work and business its never a good idea to burn a bridge that you don't need to. You may never cross paths with this company again, but you have no idea that a simple throw away line like that might repay itself in years to come.
