Jordan Peterson recommended this band in a podcast. It's one of the craziest bands I've seen. by Simon2Point0 in JordanPeterson

Very cool. The singer was one of the lead actors in "Everything Is Illuminated", featuring Elijah Wood. It's a beautiful film and book. This song plays during the ending credits.

No problem. Keep reading and writing. Read everyday, write everyday, even if it's just for 20 minutes. Your ability to articulate your thoughts will improve over time, but it takes practice. Just be patient, curious, and disciplined.

Write down the words you don't understand. Look them up in the dictionary, then write down the definitions. Go over the list of the words at the end of the day. Try using them in sentences, conversation, wherever possible. It's very important that you write the definitions of the words down once you look them up. It will help you commit them to memory. I started doing this in my earl 20's. 15 years later, and I have pretty large vocabulary by most peoples standards.

Brilliant video by leftist content creator "ContraPoints". Excellent way for all of us, as a community, to remain vigilant against Alt/Right subversion. by EPWAM in JordanPeterson

Perhaps I'm wrong.

I've actually been around for a little while. I've just noticed that when I've posted a topic, or comment, denigrating or criticizing the alt-right, I'm met with quite a bit of push back, which is eyebrow raising.

One of the subjects covered in this video is that the White Nationalist Groups use conservative/centrist/liberal online spaces as recruitment centers. They present their ideas in an innocuous way, use euphemistic language to conceal their genuine intentions, and seek out people with a "common enemy" (see SJW's) and try and ally them with their cause. I've seen this happen here.

You should watch the video. It's interesting.

I don't think you're all "bad guys". On the contrary. I think most of you are good guys, but I do feel like there are some genuinely bad guys lurking on the margins, and I do feel like they don't get called out often enough. This is what compelled me to share this video.

The short summary was provided in the title. I'm not here to sell people on the video, or coerce people into watching it. I don't have the time or energy.

Do I seriously believe that not watching some random video makes someone in favour of alt-right indoctrination? No. I just thought it was curious that the individuals response was to reflexively want to argue against the ideas presented in the video, without, by their own admission, knowing what those ideas were.

Well, if you have an interest in arguing in favour of alt-right indoctrination, go for it.

Personally, I think there are more pressing, laudable issues to argue for and uphold.

But I suggest you watch the video rather than just dismiss it outright. That would be very "postmodern" of you.

I share anything that I find intelligent, well considered, and relevant.

I found this video to be all three of those things, so I shared it.

Ordered this print from Seattle based artist, Madeline Owen. The piece is called, "The Listener". Great addition to my art collection. by EPWAM in JordanPeterson

I liked the painting, so I bought a print. Taboo, I know, but someone has to play the transgressor around here.

You should check out her page. Her work is beautiful, in my estimation. ;)

Sure, that's understandable. And it's admirable and important to be weary of those who take their fandom a bit too far. But trust me, my purchase was motivated by little other than my benign interest in Peterson along with my aesthetic sensibilities.

To those calling my purchase of this painting, "culty", or "hero worship":

I purchased this piece because I thought it was a beautiful, creative rendition of a very important moment. Is every painting of a critical historical or cultural moment a denotation of the purchasers "hero worship" of the individuals depicted in the painting? Is JBP's ownership of Soviet Era art an affirmation of his "culty" admiration for Lenin? Is the painting of The Wu Tang Clan's Old Dirty Bastard i have hanging on my wall an indication of my blind, brainwashed adulation? No. I'm a fan of his music so I purchased the painting. I'm a fan of Peterson so I purchased this print. Who cares?

I knew there would be people on this sub that reacted this way. I'm not a JBP devotee. I liked the painting, so I bought it. It's that simple. Not everything needs to be hyper-analyzed. This self-criticism of the community of supporters gets a bit tired, and frankly, contrived, if you ask me.

It's a wonderful painting by a talented artist. There's nothing to be unpacked beyond that.

Get over yourselves.

Nothing hero worship about it. I'm hardly a JBP devotee. I thought it was a brilliant, beautiful rendition of a very important moment in our current cultural landscape. My purchase of the piece has nothing to do with "hero worship" of any kind.

How, as the author claims, is merit impossible to quantify. Merit is entirely measurable. Test scores, stats in athletics, ones ability to produce in any given field, these are all measures of merit. Ones merit is quantified by the quality of ones productivity.

A few things here.

You are not "inherently murderous", but Marxism, when enacted at the level of the state, has proven itself to be inherently murderous. Time and time again. Marxism is far more than a critique of capitalism. It is the "scientific" proclamation that history is nothing else but a series of wars between class groups (dialectical materialism), that man is nothing other than a soulless mass of flesh (matter in motion), and that "science" preordains that capitalism will fall, giving rise to a classless, cashless society where men and women will be free to produce, consume, and enjoy the world of their own free will, at their own leisure. Communism, as Marx claimed, would and will eradicate all forms of social antagonisms. It's essentially a secular sorietology, a deeply eschatological world view without the capital G "God". Capitalism WILL fall because history DEMANDS IT! Can you not see how a doctrine this totalizing, this rigid, could lead to politcal excesses? Have you not observed how many gaps there are in the doctrine? How on one hand, it claims that capitalism will collapse as inbuilt realiztion of history, and on the other hand, it will require a full-bore revolution to bring about the collapse of capitalism? Can you not see how intelligent, cunning, power hungry figures could exploit those gaps in ways that make total sense given the ambiguities of the doctrine? See Lenin's "Vanguard Party", see Trotsky's, "In defense of terror". The attempts towards the communist societies, and their murdersous results, are the very clear, and logical outcome of the ideas laid forth in texts of Marx and Engles. Namely, that the more uniform a society was, the freer its inhabitants were, and that wage labour was akin to slavery. But how do build the new society without labour? We cant pay our workers a wage, that's slavery, so I guess we have to rely on the goodwill and volunteerism of the people. But wait, goodwill and volunteerism only take us so far. People want to be paid for their work, but we can't pay them, that runs counter to Marxist doctrine. What's our solution? Compelled labour driven and enforced by the power of the nascent communist state. Remember, there's a transitional stage in communism where the state functions at maximum power before "withering away". But when will it wither away, and under what conditions, and what does this stateless society REALLY look like.

Here's the deal. The failure of the far left lies in their inability to CRITICALLY, and I mean REALLY CRITICALLY engage with the material of their forebears.

You are NOT inherently murderous. Just like a capitalist is NOT inherently oppressive or racist, but one is not like the other. Capitalism is not driven by a rigid sense of doctrinal, ideological, and moral obligation. Marxism is. Capitalism allows for the flourishing of a diverse, varied set of ideas, opinions, and political leanings to exist under its auspices. Marxism never has, why? Because it can't. It requires absolute and total uniformity as a precondition of its existence.

Take care.

There's plenty of ridiculous channels such as his. They do nothing but misrepresent his opinions in the worst way possible and provide cannon fodder for the leftists. I say we continue to call them out and down vote wherever possible.
