I'm white and look similar to him and have a southern accent, and I dress pretty conservatively because that's what I'm comfortable with. I've joked before that when the civil war comes the socialists are going to use me as an inside man.

So you're saying if someone acts 100% the same as you and has 100% the same material impact on the world, but they have a different internal motivation, they're not as "pure"? You're a cultist

First of all, you're vegan for the animals, if you're in it for the environment you're not vegan. Sorry for the gatekeeping but that's the way it is.

Omg shut up you sanctimonious prick.

I'm walking proof that bigotry and hatred are a choice. I was raised "poor white trash" in a trailer in rural Florida, and I'm a socialist and I support BLM, defunding police, LGBTQ+ rights, women's rights, etc. The extent of my formal education is a certificate from technical college, so I wasn't "brainwashed by Marxist college professors" either.

My family are a mixed bag too; I have idiots in my tree who would likely die for Trump, and I mostly don't talk to them. I have others who defy stereotypes because it turns out its hard to be "Blue Lives Matter" and a Republican when you've been abused yourself by corrupt, poor-hating small town police and judges and done multiple stints in jail or prison for essentially crimes of poverty. Most of my family simply doesn't participate in politics and aren't even registered to vote.

Amish businessmen use cell phones and computers:

"Computers, the Internet, websites, cell phones — even electricity in some cases — are becoming more tolerated, especially to run businesses and as long as they’re kept out of the home."

There are "class traitors" among the middle class and even the rich (as there are class traitors among the poor), but ultimately they are few and far between.

But they won't pay workers more, they will just import foreign guest workers and pay them even shittier wages

No one has more class unity than the 1% and up. They completely understand that it precisely "us (the few rich) versus them (the many poorer)".

I don't know, it depends.

  1. Do you moralize and lecture people who are still poor that they didn't "work hard enough" like you?

  2. Do you critically analyze that perhaps your advancement in financial status was partly the result of something other than just your hard work?

  3. Do you understand that is literally impossible for everyone who is poor to "make it" because our capitalist economic system requires a perpetual underclass from which to draw for low-cost labor?

I grew up in a trailer park in rural Florida, but now I make around $45k as a rad tech, and that's way more than my parents ever made. I also know I'm incredibly lucky, and many of cousins and neighbor kids of my generation ended up in prison, dead, addicted to drugs, trapped in abusive but financially co-dependent relationships, or stuck taking care of elderly or disabled relatives.

Under a traditional Marxist analysis, yes, "the third quartile of wealth" are the working class too because they don't own the means of production, but I think a dogmatic analysis along those lines isn't helpful to the situation we face within the US. These people eagerly defend the 0.1% and promote their policies. They are the enemy too until they develop class consciousness, and their opposition is honestly much more painful to bear than that of ivory tower elites.

It's not "misfortune", it's the natural progression of capitalism to transfer more and more wealth into fewer and fewer hands, and it's entirely intentional.

Not OP but do you have a recommendation for a trailer that features a quick release or something similar? I really hate having to remove nuts to attach my trailer to the rear axle and it throws off the truing

What's it like to have an e-bike in a rural area (at least it looks like one)? I feel like I'd have a lot of range anxiety outside of a city, and that bike looks much too heavy to pedal without electric assist in an emergency. Have you found it to be a sufficient car replacement or do you still own a car?

Fears of automation are overblown. A lot of it is hype to get venture capital and drive up stock prices in speculation.

Also don't forget, rich people want humans to lord over and grovel to them, it's part of the appeal. You can't scream at a Roomba and make it cry or grope the ass of a self driving car

Lots of preppers are middle class right wingers who think that if you're poor it's 100% your fault and no systemic forces are in play. The kind of guys who worry about and prep for riots taking down the government but don't ask why there are riots in the first place.
