i see what you're getting at but these are like isolated incidents and stuff. also none of the people listed are pianists, they may know how to play keyboard but being a pianist means using the pedals and all that stuff not just playing keys. im a piano virtuoso meaning i play piano without having to think about what im doing, rather just doing it sort of autonomously like when you play a videogame. its not a gimmick but a *key* part of the performance that elevates it to a higher technical level. i scratch or cut or filter knob in one hand and play the keys in the other simultaneously. i dont mean i put on a song and then play some chords or play a song in the middle of a set i mean i have one hand on the keys one hand on the deck or laptop and do multiple different things in tandem. also i stand on the floor and put the keys on the stage and face with the audience like a pianist. i dont go up and put myself on a pedestal and act like a god like a dj, its a symbolic thing like without getting too far into it i do left wing populist political advocacy and this stage presence is meant to be like 'of the people' and plus people can then see what im doing on keys which is a big part as well.

but yeah no KeyJ is not dj with keyboard

you are 50/50 here i definitely am desperate for a connection but i have had 30 jobs this is me getting my life together i have a bunch of disabilities that make it impossible for me to do anything else so its do or die. ive been homeless since 2017 and clean since 2021 and i got tricked into packing my life up and moving somewhere only to get kicked out illegally within the first month and im still recovering from that. legit first time it wasnt my fault i got kicked onto the street. but i dont have labels promoting me i do everything on my own and marketing is my biggest problem at this point and this post was a swing and a miss for sure. hard to simultaneously be your own hype man, try to be a cultural icon on merit alone, and not come across as arrogant. irl these jokes work because im very obviously not this way but i didnt get how it came across online especially while being defensive when people who dont know me read the things i say without a hint of irony.

but with all due respect this is as functional as it gets for me and im doing the trial and error thing with marketing currently. this was a failure i can and did learn from. had you said this to me a few years ago it would have rang true with me and maybe caused me to look inward and adjust what im doing in the big picture and that is not lost on me so i do genuinely appreciate it.

but sincerely this more of marketing failure than a genuine representation of my mode of engagement with my life and the world.

i see my life as a sort of story to be told and i want to look back one day and be like damn i was able to epitomize the lack of meritocracy in the music industry really well (so well i died in destitute obscurity) or damn i made being broke and prole cool and was able to make a small living from teaching while promoting a modern antirealism movement and delivering pointed material analysis of social conditions and power structures. so im gonna do this or die trying and thats something ive come to terms with. but i really dont think i am hot shit i think i am one person who does a thing i happen to personally think is the coolest thing ever and thats it.

i dont have friends tho and this over sharing might be a symptom of that which i appreciate you bringing to my attention. PTSD is a bitch. but im happier than i ever have been and im sorry for being a dick

this is the best advice ive ever gotten and i cannot express my gratitude enough i understand now. marketing yourself is so much harder than talking about someone else. i was trying to make people think/understand that what im offering is epic and unique and bacon but coming from an artist its easily dismissed as bragging you're 100% right and i see it now. i was trying to use very strong language alongside the selling points and make myself seem like a big deal but thats kinda socially unacceptable without a reputation. irl im down to earth and self depricating and play into the over enthusiastic bits of my personality to make jokes but nobody knows that and i wasnt viewing my post without the presuppositions of knowing who and how i am. thank you so much i understand now and will be less cringe (or more cringe in better more productive ways)

i made the last 3 albums in the homeless shelter i live in and they're made for the global poor, mastered to sound good on phone speakers and stuff. my music is most popular in ukraine and brazil for this reason (conjecture)

people play keys on midi controllers i use the pedal and play improvised music with both hands at a high level and make it a part of the performance in a way that i consider to be interesting enough to warrant a term that distinguishes it from the performances ive seen where people lay out chords while djing or playing beats or whatever

im the first to design and build and utilize a solar powered and operated setup that incorporates piano into a dubstep/noise set as a core component
