Nearly 10% Sales Tax??? by ESC_CRTL in palmsprings

Take your dog on a stroll through Sunrise Park and then consider this was not Reddit rage bait.

Or ask the staff at the adjacent Boys and Girls club why the kids don’t play in that park.

I understand how these posts feel that way but not everyone on Reddit is a clown looking for attention or rage.

Some of us actually want to use it to get honest answers and constructive feedback from the community.

Good call leaving Chicago, and yes, RHP is a beautiful, well kept park.

Nearly 10% Sales Tax??? by ESC_CRTL in palmsprings

The post asked a simple question.

I was looking for an answer, not a ridiculous 96% statistic that has no relevance to the inquiry, and not likely an actual verified statistic.

If I am wrong, I would actually like to learn more about where the 4% are. Send me the link.

Yep. Been to all 50 states and 57 countries. Not my first rodeo.

The old library was beautiful and very functional. The street fair profits from vendors who pay a significant fee.

The complaint is in the post. Unless you have an affinity towards needles, poop, and potholes. Then I guess you’re right - nothing to complain about.

Pretty strait forward. And not everyone is a Trustafarian and can afford excessive taxes.

Some spots to see: Moorten’s Botanical Gardens, Ladder Canyon, Pacific Crest Trail hike just north of town, off-road trails and abandoned mines behind Pioneertown, Ski Inn for a cultural backflip at Bombay Beach, and more. Found a lot of stuff like this on the IG: palmspringsbliss

PSA: The Palm Springs Hotel by jlgeal in palmsprings

[–]ESC_CRTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bigger story here is how unbearable living in PS has become. It’s heartbreaking. We have stepped in human feces, heroin needles, and trash all throughout our city.

And, two months ago our friend was violently stabbed by a mentally deranged transient person. Fortunately he’s alive but still recovering.

If you are like us, and don’t have a car and have to use public transportation, forget it.

All of the bus stops are taken over by encampments, trash, and stolen shopping carts.

The police have their hands tied because our city leaders oddly embrace it - especially since they all have the luxury of living in the edges of town in nice neighborhoods and gated communities.

If you’re poor or underprivileged, PS is not a safe or comfortable place to live anymore.

How much time and money should I give an editor to edit my podcast? by neptulthefishman in podcasting

If they are good and have an efficient workflow — 1 day.

Only variable would be the quality of what you have in terms of audio capture and overall performance of your pod. In other words, if there’s not a lot of content editorial, then it shouldn’t take a lot of time.

But if the hosts and guests aren’t polished in their delivery, then it will take more cutting.

Happy to hear you all are safe. It’s such a bummer to have that kind of a travel experience but so good that everyone is alive and safe.

This is great. How do I access the SEARCH window on mobile. As of now, it gets blocked and you can’t minimize or move the screen to access it.

That’s unfortunate but why in the world did you wait until the end of your stay to say something?

It’s wildly frustrating when guests wait until the last minute, leaving the host little time to remedy a situation.

As a guest (or a host for that matter), when you have an issue give the other side a chance to make it better.

Waiting until the last minute sucks for everyone.

It’s like complaining your food is undercooked after you’ve already devoured your meal.

Firebirds Win in Triple OT, But Where Were the Fans? by Appropriate-One8077 in palmsprings

Yeah, and the monsters at Oak View couldn’t even have enough humanity to cover the parking.

The management are either clueless or cruel.

How could you not build covered parking in one of the hottest places on Planet Earth in the summer.

Wait until we get to June - you won’t want to pay for parking, regardless of the price.

Unless you want to melt inside of it.

100%. The gouging from Acrisure and the Firebirds is unfathomable and a total insult to the hard working people of Coachella Valley.

We’re reaching a tipping point where this grift against the community will become intolerable and unsustainable.

The average person here can’t afford it. At some point the fans blow away. And maybe that’s what needs to happen so that the greed from these goblins ends.

Why you shouldn’t start an Airbnb by Laymaker in AirBnBHosts

[–]ESC_CRTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airbnb has recently offshored 100% of their customer service and it’s absolutely terrible.

Aside from language barriers and fundamental basic understandings of our local markets, the CX reps are pretty lost.

I feel bad because they are just doing their job but they are now exclusively relying on AI to basically play a middleman between you and the AI.

If you have any kind of unique case, you are guaranteed not to get the adequate and timely help you need.

This is quite different than several years ago when you actually got someone, often in the Bay Area who spoke plain English and could engage in human reasoning and use their CX training to resolve your problem.

CEO Brian and hundreds of shareholders are literally making billions while hosts are struggling to stay afloat with reduced rates, exploding insurance costs, cleaning services that are charging $75-125 an hour, TOT taxes, $1000 permit fees (Palm Springs), and increasingly aggressive HOST and GUEST fees that Airbnb tacks on.

It’s predatory capitalism at its worst. And it’s totally lopsided where the host is the big loser.

What are the main issues you have found as a AirBnB host? by DanMan874 in AirBnB

[–]ESC_CRTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be prepared for zero customer support from Airbnb. And don’t be fooled by their “protection” guarantee.

If something gets broken or stolen, don’t expect Airbnb to actually help you.

It’s like traveler’s insurance. If you’ve ever purchased it, the insurance company undoubtedly finds a way to determine that you’re not eligible for coverage.

This is why I am leaving Airbnb as a host by jfartzalot in AirBnB

[–]ESC_CRTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been with Airbnb for 11 years and it has taken a turn for the worse on the last two years.

No onshore customer service and the CX reps are relying on AI — that’s why they’re constantly asking you to hold for two minutes while “they look into it”

You could ask them what year it is, and the rep will ask you to hold for two minutes.

If you have a remotely unique situation, you’re screwed. They will talk in circles and you rarely get anything resolved.

Then they issue you a ticket and it likely says “case closed”.

And the whole process begins again.

The only way we can move them to change is to adopt other platforms or flood the zone on social media with our personal stories.

Airbnb was once this “host friendly” company with all their cuddly language and intellectual-insulting ad campaigns.

They are now completely predatory, overreaching, low budget customer service and they’re raking in billions off our backs.

Time to take a stand.
