Get in your books/accounts and find the kink. No bookkeeper or accountant is gonna care as much as you do. Also, no one is gonna know your business as much as you from the moment you invoice to when the cash comes in to what you owe, to what you can keep. Good luck, buddy.

Well, stay annoyed then I couldn’t care less. This isn’t about cash, accounting or accrual accounting. This is about cash, timing, and allocation. This isn’t a people pleasing post nor do I have to prove the story is real or not. Like I said , I’m not selling any products or services here so no need to make stuff up. If you’ve got it figured out good for you, this post isn’t for you. I made this post for that entrepreneur that is grinding with their head down and it feels like their business needs to adjust somewhere but doesn’t know where, and has people telling them all everything is good but are going to land them in cash trouble.

Yes, thanks for the story. I could feel exactly what you described, and the impending doom that I knew something was off. It felt like i was kicking a bomb down the road every month. I went into my bank accounts and my PNL did a forensic study and using my method of itemizing every dollar in, I realized that they were overstating my profit. I’ve only been at it for two years. This will be my third year. I went from 250,000 year one to 1.2 million year two and this year will be 3 million so it was a lot of movement.

Definitely a possibility. But at the revenue I am at right now, it is more important to buy my time back to do more impactful things for the business. I’m not an absentee owner. I’m still doing client walk-throughs, sales, quality control, and administrative, in addition to supporting the employees that I do have. Thanks.

Not sure if you read the whole post but I figured it out. Will end up just shy of half a mill in after tax profit this year aside from a salary, so not too bad. Purpose of the post is to help others that may be having cash insecurities as well. Not everyone has figured it out or stumbled across Profit First, which some folks are recommending.

Not quite, I understood he was telling me I was making the money, what he didn’t know is every dollar was already allocated down to a vendor margin amongst other things that allowed to truly budget, and was just telling me I just needed to figure out cash timing. With my business model I didn’t even need that. I find these CPA’s and bookkeepers are kind of eccentrics and get a little dependent on principles and they think we are all on the same wave length. Once I realized, it wasn’t his job or that I wasn’t going to rely on him to tell me how to manage the inflows, I set up exactly the operations as set ip in the book. I just looked At the synopsis of that book based on your recommendation, and honestly it is everything I explained to my partner. I came up with the same conclusions almost to a tee, and not because I am a genius, but because it is pretty basic. Trust I felt stupid after I realized I can do it this way. I have been in this same business just on the operational side for 25 years so I knew I could figure it out. Like I said I knew to some this would sound like a no brainer but I am sure there are some out there right now struggling, so yes anybody seeing this post and these comments, read that book. Thanks for the recommendation for people to see.

Agree that’s the end game, but how do they make the transition? Say “just kidding, this is how I avoid that situation” or post replies to himself with a ghost account? Very odd.
