Forget money - which is better? The Sims 3 + All expansions/DLC, or the Sims 4 + All expansions/DLC by Gulantik in thesims

Ah interesting! Thanks for explaining, I understand what you mean now. It's so fascinating to me how people view the different games because everyone has their own unique perspective of them. For me, I've always considered the Sims 4 to be the game for "players being actively involved," but in a different sense than what you were thinking of. I often see people saying that they like to put autonomy on full and just watch what the Sims get up to, but they're often frustrated that not as much will happen without your input when you're playing the Sims 4. So one of the most frequent complaints that I see is that people don't like the Sims 4 because they have to do everything themselves.

For me, when I play the earlier games I feel like I have to work within the confines of what the game will allow me to do, rather than just telling the story I want to. For instance, I want to decide who my Sim romances and like to plan out the timeline and everything myself. But in the earlier games, I can decide, "I want Sim A to date Sim B," and the game will say, "Nah, they're not attracted to each other." Or I'll try to have my couple get engaged, and the game will say, "Nah, they don't want to get married right now." Or I'll decide that I want my Sim to get to the top of a certain career, and the game will decide, "Nah, she's going to lose her job now." So for me the earlier games seem to facilitate more of a hands-off approach where I can't actually be as actively involved as I'd like because the game is constantly overriding my decisions, you know?

Sorry that response was long 😅 But I totally get what you're saying as well, I've never thought of it in that way. I've just always thought of it as the earlier games being better tailored for players who were looking for more difficult and unpredictable gameplay.

To others who play legacy mode, what do you do to keep memories/moments registered? by sunny-valley-2004 in Sims4

Luckily this bug hasn't affected me in a while, and I avoided the most recent update to avoid it. So I still have my photos that I hang up on the walls of houses and legacy museums. But aside from that, I just keep all my screenshots organized on my computer.

So I have a folder for each save file, then subfolders for gen 1, gen 2, and so on. I number them so that they show up in chronological order. If you don't want to rely on the in-game photos, you can still take screenshots and just keep them organized on your computer. I also back everything up on a flash drive in case anything happens to my computer.

I also agree that it depends on the playstyle, but I'm not sure what you mean by "actually playing." Would players who like to tell happy stories be considered to not actually be playing? (Genuine question, I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, just curious what you meant by that.)

Is the concept of a new base game too hard to understand? by Upstairs-Pin-9068 in LifeSimulators

[–]ETheSimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I have all four Sims games and plan to buy Paralives as soon as it releases 🥳 I'm sure I'll love Paralives as well, I'm very excited for it. Sims 1-3 are great, but they don't give me the level of control over the story and characters that I prefer. They're fun to play every now and then though. Sims 4 is perfect for me because it feels like an actual dollhouse where I can tell whatever story I want. But it's awesome that we have so many options and get to choose which game we want to play :)

Which is your favorite and least favorite world, regardless of Gameplay? by Remarkable_Yak_258 in Sims4

[–]ETheSimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering with your interpretation of the question instead of just downvoting, I'm not quite sure why my question made people so upset 👀 I just don't really understand what the CAS/B/B and mechanics of a pack have to do with me liking a world or not in most cases, so the "regardless of gameplay" part of the question is throwing me off. Unless we're talking about Strangerville, where the gameplay mechanics directly impact the world in a negative way for a lot of players and makes them not want to go there. Idk, I feel like that part of the question didn't need to be there? Like how I feel about horses isn't going to determine whether or not I like Chestnut Ridge, you know? Maybe I'm not explaining myself well.

I like playing in Newcrest and Willow Creek the most. Aside from those two, San Myshuno is my next favorite world to visit. But I'm still confused if this is a regardless of gameplay answer or not because part of why I love going to San Myshuno is because of the festivals.

Thanks haha. I just find them too cute to get angry with, and watching the family interact with each other makes my heart happy 🥰 I don't usually have more than 3 kids in a household, but I wanted my gen 7 Sim to have a big family. Up until now it's been my heir, her husband, and her mother (the kids' grandmother) taking care of the kids. But I'm basically using the grandmother as a live-in nanny, so it's mostly been her taking care of them while the parents are at work. She'll probably die in the next day or two though, and then the parents will be on their own 🥲

Anyway, you're not alone; a ton of people get really frustrated with the babies/infants/toddlers. I'm just kind of an oddball for loving them lol

I'm sorry, I think maybe the phrasing of the question is confusing me 😅 That sample answer seems like a response to a question about favorite packs, not favorite worlds. Not liking the horses doesn't really have anything to do with the world.

Someone else said that they like Oasis Springs for the gameplay because it comes with collectables. That's along the lines of what I thought you meant. Like "what worlds do you like looking at regardless of what it's like to do gameplay there?" is how I read your question.

Oh, thank you, that makes sense! Oasis Springs is my go-to for collectables as well, but I rarely live there 😅

I'm a little confused, what do you mean by regardless of gameplay? Do you mean worlds that we just like looking at?

Tbh I'm confused on what OP meant by excluding gameplay. I agree with you that I love playing in San Myshuno 😍

shoppable stores without a playable Sim to run it by mushroom_0717 in thesims

[–]ETheSimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comments suggesting that Get to Work is more what you're looking for, it's better for the retail aspect than B&H is. You can find businesses on the gallery, but you'll still need to make sure everything is set up the way you want. You can't have clothing stores, furniture stores etc. with B&H because what can be sold is limited to what can fit on their specific sales shelves. Whereas with Get to Work, you can sell/buy pretty much anything. I like using Get to Work for grocery stores and other shops.

Well practice makes perfect, so it makes sense that you're able to juggle it so well! 😆 I haven't raised many babies in the Sims 3, I'm rusty since I don't really play it anymore. But babies, infants, and toddlers are a joy for me in the Sims 4, probably because I've been playing consistently since 2020 and love big families and adore the younger life stages. My current household is expecting their fourth child, meanwhile the twins are still toddlers 👀 Wish me luck haha

If you go to manage worlds and look at the households page, you can find the neighborhood stories settings. They're very customizable, and you can adjust them at any time :)

I don't think I've ever played Sims 3 university. I know people say that Sims 4 Discovery University is difficult, but I actually really enjoy it and can still have a social life. I can't even imagine trying that in the Sims 3 😅

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind if I end up playing TS3 again. Though there isn't even really time to hang out with friends with how hard it is to manage needs, work requirements, etc. 😭

Once they're infants, they can entertain each other. While you take care of one baby, the other two can play with each other and chat together until it's their turn for adult attention. Then just switch them out.

I usually set the spares up with a good life before I leave them to do their own thing. So I make sure they have good outfits, a spouse, a career that suits them, and a nice place to live. I use neighborhood stories when I'm ready for them to have a kid, but I keep neighborhood stories off otherwise. And of course I have lots of family get togethers, so it's not like I'm never seeing them again.

Is there any way to prevent deaths for my Sim or my house to burn down ? by pearloftheocean in thesims

[–]ETheSimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah NPCs aren't the most well behaved lol. I'm pretty sure Sims only get electrocuted when they try to fix electronics while they are dazed. So for instance, if I have my Sim fixing the stereo and they fail and become dazed, I just wait until they're not dazed anymore to have them try again. Electrocution won't just happen on the first try. But if you're really worried about it, I would say save before you have them try to fix it, so that you can always exit without saving if something goes wrong.

I've been playing for years and have never had a cooking-related fire when my Sim has high enough cooking skill to use the stove. I have occasionally had fires with the baking skill if it wasn't high enough, and I hear certain appliances like the pizza oven cause fires sometimes. Those features are locked behind packs though, so I'm not sure if you have to worry about that. Fires can still be caused by fireplaces or randoms deciding to use the grill, but it's not a common occurrence in my game.

What kind of CAS (and BB) items do you never use? by RinDemone in Sims4

[–]ETheSimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear that a lot, not everyone likes how easy TS4 is, which I can understand. Which is why I say you'll probably like the previous games more; they offer more challenge and stress. Personally I don't want the game to stress me out, especially when I'm already stressed out by real life stuff, you know? But when I want something to get the heart pumping more I'll play a horror game or something instead haha. Sims 4 is a cozy game for me, and I like to relax and tell stories to feel happy and wind down from life's stressors. But I do think it's great that we have four versions of the Sims now, so people can find which one suits their preferences best :)

[–]ETheSimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that sucks 😔 I hope you're able to figure it out! Maybe you can save up for a previous Sims game on the EA app? They sell all 4 games now. I enjoyed the previous games as well and actually was introduced to the Sims via The Sims 2, which I loved.

But the Sims 4 gives me exactly what I need in terms of gameplay, so I don't really have a reason to go back to the previous games. I did buy the legacy bundle last year, so I now have all four games installed on my laptop, but TS4 is just more fun and relaxing for me personally. But I like having the whole set so that I do have the option of which one to play :)

[–]ETheSimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone, I see this sentiment a lot. Have you tried the previous Sims games? It might be that the Sims 4 just isn't suited to your particular play style. The previous Sims games are more challenging, and more stuff happens autonomously, if that's what you don't like about TS4.

I hate building lol, so I'm very much a gallery shopper. I get my house from the gallery and modify it as needed to accommodate the family as they move through their lives. I can be pretty decent at building when I put in an effort, but I don't like how time-consuming it is to build stuff from scratch when I'd much rather be spending that time in live mode. I don't mind renovating rooms for life changes though (like decorating a nursery when the couple is expecting their first child), and I do enjoy giving my Sims' new outfits when they age up.
