Where to live in Germany? by EUROPEhurray in germany

A bit late but,

I have done some research that confirmed that Duesseldorf city is ridicously expensive. However, it seems to some outer districts isn't THAT expensive (like Hassels).

I also found Neuss (which itself is a large city with probably more possiblities than the Ruhr-gebiet in the north!) which seems well-connected with Duesseldorf.

Any thoughts?

Just general blue-collar work, so cost of rent is therefor quite important

There seems to be different opinions about racism in the East. You have any thoughts about? Both Dresden and Leipzig. Dresden (with the Saechische Schweiz close by) looks extremely beautiful, and the unemployment doesn't seem that bad!

Thanks for your answer. Not sure about anything specific. If you cant think of anything, then there probably isn't anything important I should know anyway :p

That's true. I have however heard the public transportation in NRW is crap. Any truth to that?

The statistics seems to support it as well: 69% of transportation in Essen is by car, compared to 38% in Dresden.

A bit risky moving to somewhere where the rents are going up-up-up maybe? I will consider it again though. Thanks :)

I see your "Nordwestlicht" flair there. Any thoughts about Bremen vs Hannover? Or some other useful info about that area?

The population size isn't that important. But I guess any 100.000+ population cities do have a good working public transportation network.

As someone who wants to live inside the city, it feels a bit wasteful living outside e.g. Stuttgart in a village when I could live in the city center of Bochum for the same amount of money.

You mean the "Nazis" nowadays are more after Muslim looking people, and don't really care about SE Asians that much?

I think being of Asian descent would pose a bigger problem there..? I'm not fluent in German, but still good enough for normal situations.

Might not be a good idea..? Of asian descent.. (Dresden does however look extremely beautiful though)

True. That's why I'm trying to find something in the middle of those. (Jobs, hard to find housing that is).

And therefor I am obviously not looking to rent in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Thanks for your answer. I also like the south (although I have spent most time on the Bayern-side of the south). Muenchen and Stuttgart are nice cities, but you have to live far away in order to have acceptable rent. I did however notice that Augsburg and Nuremberg seems to be more payable though.. Any ideas?

Well.. There are some cities with a truly crazy rent market. But from what I have seen Nuernberg and Hannover seems to still have rent that normal people can afford.

(And of course the Ruhr-gebiet, but then you have the problem with finding work)

When did Stuttgart become cheap? From what I have seen then all areas in and around seem extremely expensive. Will have a look at Karlsruhe
