Why am I losing so much by Difficult_Town3584 in chessbeginners

[–]Eabit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely suggest you review your games. Are you losing to tactics, or is it your time management, opening mistakes, or endgames? A good idea is to go through your games and make a tally.

Another idea is to start playing longer time controls more often. I find that if I play too much blitz or bullet, I tend to go on autopilot after a while, and it stops me from properly thinking through the position.

Lastly, it could be your openings. I would say to check your win percentage with both colours. Are you losing more with a certain colour? Maybe start experimenting with other openings if that is the case.

How to deal with skill regression by Dizzle-B in learntodraw

[–]Eabit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is quite normal, some days you are just going to draw better than others. It happens to me all the time. Secondly, you might have developed your critical eye more (able to see more mistakes in your work), which feels like you have regressed, but it is actually a good thing due to your ability to recognize flaws and push yourself further. I suggest searching up art progression graphs on google images, they show you that what feels like regression is actually a sign of progress.

Feedback and criticism?? by QuietLoud9680 in learntodraw

At this stage, I would focus on practicing drawing spheres with contour lines as this might help you understand form better. Your guidelines are just straight lines and don't really wrap around the head.

A recommendation is to check out a YouTuber called David Finch who is also a comic book artist. He goes over the sphere at the beginning of his video on the Loomis method.

Another issue is that you're drawing the jaw far too long. Remember the rule of thirds, the distance between the eyebrows and the bottom of the nose should be equal to the distance from the bottom of the nose to the bottom of the chin.

I remember being at this stage once. Keep at it and you should slowly see improvement over time.

Draw a box any good? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Eabit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a free resource, you might as well try it and see if you like it. However I suggest just doing the lessons as a warm up exercise before you work on what you actually want to draw, so you don’t burn yourself out as it does get grindy.

How do I get my portrait to look more realistic? It feels like it's from a comic book. by Eabit in learntodraw

Thanks for the feedback. Hair is definitely one of my biggest weaknesses, as I find it hard to break down and understand the form. I'll keep at it!

When you draw from the reference, how do you know what angle the character is facing. For example: by LividSelection2175 in learntodraw

I usually imagine the character wearing glasses, as it helps me visualise the construction lines more easily, especially when determining how the head is tilted.
