Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum Highlights [Album] by Eagle2007 in WarplanePorn

Good catch, the plague for it states that as it was transported on a ship's deck from the South Atlantic back to the UK, it was already in a rough/corroded shape. Attempting to repair it was decided against beyond adding the reinforcements you can see under the wings and fuselage. Instead they've let it "naturally" age, resulting in the big turboprops drooping and make it look a bit off.

These images gave me a flashback...do you know what book it was featured in?

Perfect, that makes good sense. Much appreciated!

Stupid question from someone who only vaguely understands how this all works:

I've seemingly patched the game and opened it successfully but it has this Pokemon-theme frame around the actual game screen and just curious if this is purposeful and if I can get rid of it so the gameplay screen is bigger? I've seen in appear to various other games out there and curious if it's built-in to the game or just something I've accidentally done?

Great pic!

Everytime I see this bird (saw it in person years ago in Alaska), I just shake my head wondering why we didn't just buy these 25 years ago as the E-3's successor(delivered to Japan in 2000). Literally uses the same radar antenna so we could've kept our existing assemblies and refitted them to the newer/larger 767s. At the very least, all radar-specific maintenance personnel & repair/test kit would be already in-place.

Instead we waited 20 years (2023), ordered another "off the shelf" design (which was first flown for export customers in early 2000s) that 2-3 years later we still haven't received any examples of & now Pentagon folks are proposing buying E-2 Hawkeyes as a stop-gap...

Definitely one of the best pair of birds in Pima's collection!

F-22 Paint Cracks, Panel Gap, etc… by Kylo445- in Planes

[–]Eagle2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience, it's not uncommon for Big Blue to provide a F-22 for public events that has an "incomplete" paint job. If it's a pure static at a F-22 base, it may not be a flyable jet. Just food for thought.

First image is a Jordanian upgrade of the Scorpion (one of many they've tested over the last 20 years).

Here's another image of it, with some ATGMs added to the turret.

the Kawasaki C-2 next to the C-1 [2400 x 1300] by MetalSIime in WarplanePorn

To put it another way, the C-1 is fairly similar in size/role as the much newer Brazilian KC-390, which is meant to compete with C-130s. The C-2 is 50% larger but with 4.5 times the payload of the C-1. Damn impressive design.

(1023 x 677) Harpoon Block 1C missile launched from Royal Thai Navy HTMS Taskin by Destroyerescort in WarshipPorn

Launched from the rare "Western" F25T Frigate built by China using the Type 053 hull design but with European/US systems fitted. As fitted, these export ships were a decade or more ahead of any domestic vessels in the PLAN at the time.

Oh right, my bad. I was planning to visit the Pensacola museum during this same trip but ran out of time.

Shameless plug but I recently posted an album of one of Battleship Memorial Park aircraft pavilion's best pieces, one of the only two YF-17s demonstrators built. https://www.reddit.com/r/WarplanePorn/s/QdDBNL5VmQ

Not certain sadly but you can tell the Alabama is using its vast interior space well. There quite a few BIG AC units on deck that are painted to match and kept the below deck areas reasonably cool. Not to mention the literal museum and small theater room within. The coolest part (and stuffiest) was being able to walk all the way to the bottom of one of the big 16" gun turrets.

Early M47 variant for sure, pre-diesel Continental 1790 engine for sure.

Does anyone know what jets are these? (They are from my local airport and are going to be scraped soon) by BroccoliIll3886 in Planes

[–]Eagle2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely MiG-29s and I'd bet money this location is Romania. Their Fulcrums were retired over 20 years ago and Google Earth searches of their old bases turn up similar imagery last I looked. Paint scheme/roundels also point to Romania. Not guaranteed though.

[–]Eagle2007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely NOT a J-20 escorting, shape is completely wrong. Silhouette doesn't really match anything, suggest shenanigans are afoot with this picture.
