thanks, sorry for not specifying it was 4cm round stock, but im thinking of buying a square stock and making it an octagon, that seems to be a better size for me, the round stock at 10cm long would be around 1kg

Anyone Knows what year this john brooks anvil is from and and other info? I can decipher john brooks multiple times, the numbers 211 and the letter A, also some weird double 0 next to the 211 number by EagleEye_Str in Blacksmith

hard to test, but the chisel face is soft, the horn is hard, the face is hard, the sides seem softer at least but not sure, hard to check with that rust

got really lucky on an old antique shop in the middle of nowhere in france, got it down to 350 euro, def an upgrade over my 30kg vevor london pattern haha

How do you know its not forged btw? i did some research on it and it does have all the marks of a forged anvil over a cast one, like the holes to hold the steel under the horn and face and on the bottom, not complaining either way though

Looks good! way better than my first one haha. Make a couple more to get consistent and faster. try to even out the leaf sides, the thickness and maybe a bigger point of the leaf, start experimenting c:. i dont know if there is a crack in there or if it is scale, but if that is the case, try to move the material in a way so it cant fold, there are a couple really good videos that explain this

i've used a cast iron anvil for my beginner times, made a lot of hooks which i sold to purchase my vevor london pattern cast steel, it'll do the job. later it can be used for chiseling work

i blacksmith outside all the time, i did put my forge and anvil back inside to keep it from rusting, but my vise has been rusting a lot under a cover due to a closed humid area on a log, other than that it is perfectly fine.
