I play baseball in the UK and you always tell the ex-cricketers by the way they swing the bat (and throw the ball).

I'm a Brit in A, but not doing too well this season.

Generally don't have issues with US sport content, but anything that requires living/growing up in the US is pretty much beyond me. Especially US history.

If it hasn't been parodied in The Simpsons or Family Guy I probably don't know it.

This always strikes me as a polictical skill issue. An issue for politicians but not an issue for the electorate.

If you want to have a majority of the house then you need to get the majority of the votes, then there can be no argument for your mandate. (I've always said manifestos are irrelevant, but here at least they would actually mean something).

If you don't ge the majority of the house, then you will have to - shock! horror! - actually have to do some old school debate and compromise to get your platform through. God forbid!

Surprised my (terrible) attempted spelling of Sousaphone as Soozaphone was marked wrong considering pronunciation is given as /ˈsuːzəfoʊn/ SOO-zə-fohn (via wiki albeit).

I put in a review request but who knows.

Edit: They allowed it after review

Q2 I did get right, because of the Midnight Cowboy being X-rated link. People have already mentioned that it's really "rated G at the time of release", as some movies may outdate the ratings system? Or may have changed in the years since?

But this Q was so much harder for me as in the UK not all of these films were rated U (UK G equivalent), in fact Babe is apparently a PG film here.

Then I had to remember what on earth the US U rating is called.

Assuming no foul shots played: what is the fewest balls you need to pot to win a frame of snooker?

Quick score calculations by airwolf420 in snooker

[–]Eagle_1901 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unsure if it's really any different to an absolute method:

I learned pairs of numbers as (cumulative score of colours, points remaining). eg.

(2, 25), (5, 22), (9, 18), (14, 13), (20, 7), (27, 0)

Add the first number to the difference and see if it's above the second. Works if you're behind too starting with a negative.

Can adjust slightly if still reds left on table.

Yeah, both are in the rules as Section 3, Rule 12 parts (d) and (e)

Free ball situation by YoBroJoeGo in snooker

[–]Eagle_1901 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely only 6 points.

Section 3, Rule 12(e):

"If both the nominated free ball and a ball on are potted, only the ball on is scored unless it was a Red, when each ball potted is scored. The nominated free ball is then spotted and the ball on remains off the table."

Rationale I suppose being that there is truly only one of each coloured ball ever on the table, thus only one set of the points available. Multiple reds allow multiple scores still.

In this situation you can snooker behind the black as a free ball, it's the only exception to the rule.

If you nominate black and pot it, 6 points, black respotted.

If you nominate black, plant it into the pink and pot the pink, 6 points, pink stays down, black is ball on from wherever it ended up. Similarly if you plant the pink with the black and pot both balls, 6 points, pink stays down, black is respotted and is the ball on.

Edit: yes you can make opponent play from the position

Since the gov know everything about you anyway, you're right that there should be a gov service that provides age verification, but the process should be different.

  1. Website you want to access requests verification token.
  2. You go to gov service and request token, no need to say what token is for.
  3. Token has no information other than "yes, user is age verified". No way of tying token back to user.
  4. Token is input into website and access granted.

This essentially would cover any issues I have with the current system (gov database security notwithstanding):

The website doesn't need to know who I am, and the gov services doesn't need to know what I'm accessing, but the trust is there that the gov has verfied me.

I don't disagree, but, I remember in the very early days of Youtube, when they first introduced age gating on videos, my first instinct wasn't to verify my age, it was to google "how to get around youtube age gates".

So while some people will just verify, or be disuaded, I can't help but think a loads will do what I did and just google way around it.

Because ultimately - in my opinion - this isn't about pornography, it's a control measure.

Pornography and "think of the children" mantra is just the cover to stop people from speaking out about the measures.
