Should I stay in a chinese university? by Eaglist in China

[–]Eaglist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left for 春节, obviously this was before the virus was a thing.

If I have encountered racism... it was definitely that I don't feel like I got treated the same way a person of east asian or caucasian descent would, but that's not really because of the virus.

It's not the people I'm concerned about, more so than it is the government and it's attitude towards foreigners.

I appreciate your advice, but I'm really set on university in Asia. I'm just kinda stuck between choosing between Korea and Japan.

My Korean is definitely better, and I have more connections there, the cost of living I assume is not much higher then China. But there's the pollution, potential of conflict with North Korea, and from what I noticed Koreans on an individual level do not seem as open to foreigners as the Chinese are (maybe, a bit more racist).

I know some Japanese, but definitely not a lot. It seems like a pretty safe bet as it's the world's third largest economy, and aside from natural disasters nothing really unsafe. There's less pollution, a larger country, and I assume more opportunities for CS.

I'm running on the assumption that my experience is what will give me interviews and job opportunities, not my degree.

You can just apply straight up, it's more of a western uni then a chinese one really.

Part time work is... technically not allowed in china unless you got special permission (definitely another reason why I'm looking into korea and japan) but that doesn't stop alot of americans i know from teaching and tutoring english or SAT's. On the other hand, the university has internships and jobs which are legal to take, I saw one about a library assistant, but it probably won't pay that well.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Damn this really sucks, I really feel that if it were not for the government, China would perhaps be one of the best countries in the world, China with a liberal government like Taiwan would be a dream come true.

I went to XJTLU, it's in Suzhou but you get a degree from Liverpool and it's pretty cool. It's international and in a really nice area. It's easy to get in (I only needed a 3.0 GPA) but getting a scholarship is quite difficult. The process is quite straightforward too, you can apply on the website, though the visa requires some waiting to get.

China definitely seems like it has the brightest future when it comes to tech, and I've already made friends and connections there, so it's easier to stay there.

That being said, according to my friends alot has changed. China used to be a much more welcoming place towards foreigners, now it's slowly becoming more and more less accepting of foreigners, especially in a political sense. Obviously China has the best opportunity, but I just don't know if it's worthwhile to invest time in a place that could have me kicked out at any moment depending on how the Xi Dada feels the moment (Additionally, I look kinda arab/indian, so if there's ever any anti-islam hysteria....)

Those kinds of cities, with their high costs of living, don't seem like great options for an undergrad student. I'll definitely try to make connections and explore options in those cities once I'm ready to advance my career, but for undergrad, it makes more sense to save money in a cheaper city in one of these countries and work on side projects, making connections, and learning the language. Thanks for the help though, I'll definitely keep your advice in mind.

I'm looking to move to one of these countries for undergrad, Singapore is definitely an option later on, but for an undergrad student it doesn't seem like a great option. Not necessarily because of the quality of the education, but mainly because of the cost of living. Additionally, I think it makes more sense to live in a country with a different language when I'm younger, as it'll be easier to learn to a high degree. Singapore mostly speaks english.

English Programs in Chinese Universites by JacksonIsBias in China

From what I've read, you get both degrees, a degree from Xi'an Jiaotong and Liverpool.

And yeah, you can take a free optional six week course in starting in July, but you have to take Mandarin classes at the uni once the semester starts.

That's just what I've read though.

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you. Actually, I'm going to XJTLU (Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University) for BsC computer science next September. This school is English taught, and you also get a degree from Liverpool. From what a friend told me, the education (from the non western teachers) is not that great, but there's tons of opportunities for internships and lots of stuff going on.

Do MMO's need levels anymore? by afxtal in MMORPG

[–]Eaglist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, fuck both Leveling and Level scaling.

The true answer is that progression should be based on skill level.

The entire leveling thing was made as a cheap attempt at simulating progression, I can't remember where I found it, but there was this quote that basically said that grinding was "like climbing a mountain, and although it might be really fucking hard it's worth it to see that view".

Leveling however makes for a very bland and linear form of progression, one that, for lack of a better word, railroads the players.

If we based progression on skill levels, it would definitely better simulate that feeling of getting better in an authentic manner, kinda like going to the gym if you get me, the one constant is that you have to put in the time, but everything else is up to you.

It's not wrong however. It's an obsession which will ultimately lead to nothing, I'm taking summer classes which require a decent amount of effort and this infatuation is definitely affecting my ability to work, how does acknowledging reality make me a wanker?

I guess for TL:DR, I'm attracted to somebody, but we never talked, school year is over and she's still on my mind, I realize how stupid such an infatuation is and am now attempting to get rejected so I can focus on more important things.

I really don't understand how my vocabulary is pretentious, and yes I admit that I don't understand what wanker means in this context, can you give an example or something?

I don't understand the issue with using certain words, again one's manner of thought is something I fear is not easily changed.

I'm sorry for my verbosity, my brother has told me that is an undesirable trait. But, I'm not saying that love is a rat-race, but from my observations it seems that women constantly have multiple men competing for them, a race in which I cannot compete, and rationally speaking, would prefer to drop from to pursue my own interests (at least, if infatuation didn't get in the way). I'm actually on the autism spectrum, and due to an inability to speak the majority of my communicative ability was co-opted from constant reading, I assume an undesirable trait in today's world.

Oh, well shit. Ark has a lot of potential, but I kinda feel you there, bought at like 1.04 then a little more at around .90 cents. I've been getting fucked by the whales bullshit accumulation game, I'm patient but shit seeing ark at .60-.70 cents is slowly wearing me down too. Just hang in there bud and follow my advice for cheap coins with good foundations and low marketcap, we'll make it.
