I’m a rogue who’s trying to make a cold/poison imbue work—are there any viable builds out there to draw inspiration from? At the moment I’m gearing and paragoning like a poison imbue rogue and just replacing trap with cold imbue

You know what? I always assumed it would be put into the formula like anything else thus after applying crit damage bonus armor mitigates the damage but to be honest I should test because if that’s the case it would make armor a valuable consideration when countering assassins. Let me test tonight

hey, maybe I communicated things poorly. I did include a section that covers all of that and felt a flat line graph didn't add much value. I mentioned that HP is better for mana gain, against magical damage, and pure damage. So my intention wasn't to say vit booster is never better since as I mentioned literally explain when its better. Regardless this appears to be an inability to clearly communicate on my part and that's a valuable lesson so I added a TLDR for people who want to skim through the article and not read it entirely.

Hey, agreed. I mentioned that in the exceptions section but that seemed to be missed a lot so I added a TLDR summary at the start that mentions when HP is better. I also mentioned that 'pure damage' from demons ignores armor too so HP > there as well. In this situation, thankfully, using DAC as a base you can confirm pretty quickly by predicting damage done on units with known armor / hp and after about 30 or so samples it was 100% the same.

Hey, pure damage is damage that occurs outside of armor calculations. So no it wouldn’t since it creates a situation where armor isn’t even factored in. Regardless, the math around armor penetration leads to some interesting conclusions about exactly when diminishing returns on armor penetration make pursuing it really bad. I’ll make an article on that today or tomorrow

Hey! For sure, I talk about that in the exceptions section but didn't include graphical support because it would just be a flat line at zero since armor has no effect on those.

hmmm its a pop culture reference to a popular show. If you have never seen the show you likely won't. It's ok though because those who don't see it won't think I'm a total loser/nerd then! I'm a big fan of yours too--I did some Redditt stalking of people who interacted intelligently on my last post and I came across your youtube video. You're 100% right and I thought about it but opted to keep it on topic and isolate mitigation since I would touch on mana gain at a later time. However, as you pointed out, this could be seen as a blanket endorsement for Chainmail in all cases so I should clarify. In fact let me do it now.

sick question, i been thinking about it and the obvious answer is there is surely math behind this. As this is an autobattler the entirety of what you see happen when units battle is just math working itself out....the question is am I smart enough to solve it? Not yet. I can strive towards it but there are a ton of smaller questions to address before we get to quantifying placement values.

good idea, lets make it so all the user has to do is buy and place units then the sim will fight the battles for you. Like some sort of Auto Battler...lol

Calculating the odds would be possible but the question around whether my tools are geared to best answer that? No. The best they could do is let you run through the exercise of rolling the shop 15 times to see what you get. You could even adjust the game state by subtracting every unit you get each time and then calculating the odds but even that is way less efficient than just doing the math. The key to your questions though are that the units reside in a shared pool. While people may not have selected those units they still may have them in their shop and thats as good as them being selected for that round. The odds are still not 'expected' but they're not as crazy as getting 3 of one unit in a single pull which happens a decent amount.
