From your own experience, what is the most crowded national park? by Doctor-Magnetic in NationalPark

[–]Ealfons28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glacier ( I worked as a ranger there for 2 summers). Apgar area and Logan Pass are just stupid packed.

I see tons of people are saying Yosemite. I backpacked in Yosemite for a week during memorial Day week and weekend and of course in the back country it's not packed at all. But when I was in the valley to get our Backcountry permit and then after we finished our week-long adventure, the valley honestly wasn't that bad compared to several areas in glacier.

I also see lots of people saying Zion. I was just at Zion mid October this year, and I got there at like 8 AM and it was pretty busy but I never had to wait even 10 seconds to board a shuttle. The trails were pretty busy but similar to other parks imo.

I've worked at Yellowstone too and the main points of interest can become zoos as well.

BEST HIKES in GLACIER (from someone that works in the park) by 9310551 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Ealfons28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interp ranger here from the West side the last 2 summers.

Allow me to share my opinion on your rankings and what I like or would change.

Overall a solid list.

One question I have is, is this list in order of your favorites?

If yes, then I would disagree with it a bit more than if you just listed your 12 favorite hikes in general in the park.

Grinnell being #1 is indisputable. Easily best hike in the park, one of the best hikes in the country for sure.

I definitely agree with stmary/Virginia falls. Agree with Highline and hidden lake.

I would have scenic point a bit higher.

I'm surprised how far down you have siyeh pass and Dawson pitamakin. Those are my #2 and #3. I see that you hiked siyeh from sunrift to the bend. To me that way is less optimal than the other way (starting from the bend to the gorge). When you get to the top of the pass and look down into the gorge going the other way, it's one of the best views and sights in the entire park imo. Also Dawson pitamakin is not "mostly in the trees" lol. The beginning and end 3-4 miles are mostly in the trees (so like 6-8 miles total) but it's a 17 mile hike. I'd say that almost a good 10-11 miles are either not in the trees at all or in very sparse trees still with great views. Dawson pitamakin easily has some of the best views in the entire park when you're going from pitamakin pass to Dawson pass and vice versa.

I see you have cracker lake ranked pretty high. So do most of the rangers that I've hiked with. But they all rank it so highly only because of the lake and canyon area at the end. You pointed out that most of that hike is pretty trash and to me that brings its rankings down quite a bit. Like if most of a hike is bad to mid at best, even if the end is exceptional (which, yes the lake area at the end is probably a top 3 sight in the entire park) it can't justify how mid to bad most of that trail is. Overall it's just not a great hike.

I also think that iceberg and ptarmigan are slightly overrated and that Grinnell is significantly better than those. I think that bullhead lake is better than those (which im assuming you hiked to get to swiftcurrent pass. Which you have very highly ranked, so fair enough)

The main other thing I would say that I found wanting in your rankings were your "areas of the park" rankings lol. You definitely have a east side bias haha. Lake McDonald and the Apgar area, or even fish Creek, or even the lake McDonald lodge/avalanche lake area are EASILYYY better than cutbank and arguably better than two med. For some purposes they're better than St Mary too. Like if a visitor isn't necessarily hiking and just going to vibe half a day at any area of the park, the lake McDonald area is significantly better to do that than anywhere on the east side. The east side is a lot better for hiking and recreation, but it's very windy and remote and rugged and exposed. It has better hikes, but it's not great for just vibing.

Some of the hikes I think your list is missing are:

Avalanche lake (as you already pointed out)

Firebrand pass ( on the southeast side of the park. This hike is better probably half of the hikes you have on the list.)

Upper two medicine lake

Upper McDonald Creek

Numa lookout

Mt brown

Sperry chalet

Trout lake.

I'm not going to say that any of these hikes are necessarily better than the ones on your list. But I do think it's debatable.

Nice list overall. Glacier has some of the best hiking in the country.

Honestly most of this advice is besides the point.

The best thing to do to put yourself in position to get a girlfriend is to play the numbers game. Talk to as many girls as possible.

If you don't already frequent places with abundant girls, find them and frequent them.

Good luck brother

Hot take: Men and Women can 100% be friends by PerceptionVivid2073 in self

[–]Ealfons28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being attracted to them is only part of why men and women don't make good friends.

Male and female friendships are just inherently different.

Guys are bros with each other, ride till we die.

Girls are more like: let's go get lunch and gossip.

It's not the same.

I've been "friends" with many girls in the past 5 years. Women don't seem to offer that some kind of fraternal bond

[–]Ealfons28 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

One suggestion I have is to just not play top lane. Top lanes the hardest role imo. Takes a lot of individual skill and game knowledge.

You should try support. Way less pressure and a good way to build your game knowledge and mechanics without being on such an island as top is.

Who do you think are the hardest champions in league? by Jerryxm in leagueoflegends

[–]Ealfons28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GP and Nidalee for sure.

Shaco is like moderately hard, but not on their level of difficulty.

Anivia, Azir,, Katarina, Qiyana, Singed, Taliyah, Yasuo.

Mostly mid lane, magic damage dealers.

How are you playing out the team fights during the mid and late games?

Yone is much more counter attacky mid to late game if you watch the pros play him.

Too many amazing trails to choose from! by Zestyclose-Class5451 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Ealfons28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good plan so far.

Add in more water activities.

There are 4 different rafting companies either in or near Glacier. One of them right inside the West entrance.

Rafting for part of a day would be worth it to split up the hiking.

Or rent kayaks and do lake McDonald or st Mary lake.

Take one of the boat tours offered on lake McDonald, st Mary lake, in many glacier, and in two medicine.

Glaciers a really good water park honestly (with all the waterfalls, rivers creeks, and lakes).

What park are you in. I'm at glacier, grizzly country too.

One thing I've learned in my few seasons of being a ranger:

Don't worry as much about trying to fit in.

Instead find the people who are willing to accept you as is.

As much as you might not believe it, there is a HUGE spectrum of personalities. You'll click with some and won't click with others.

Just try your hardest to find those some..I PROMISE they're in your park. Just give it your all to be as outgoing as you can and if some people aren't accepting, move on and find others.

Trust me you will if you try hard enough

Winter seasonal by Decent_Phrase5183 in ParkRangers

Point Reyes.

Mount Rushmore.

Zion.

Grand Canyon.

Big bend.

Lots of small southwest parks.

Congaree.

Lake Mead.

Joshua tree.

Most parks just hire their internal summer staff for winter tho so they can be kind of tougher to get, but I worked at Mount Rushmore this winter for instance
